If the game only has 200 premium cars with the standard cars being upscaled from GT4 withou cockpit view, then in my opinion the game should be marketed as having 200 cars, the so called standard cars should be dropped.

Premuim car = Standard car
Standard car = B grade sub-standard car

Are you happy about the 200 premium cars we've been given? I for one am more than happy. Face it, 200 is not such a bad number, and they are by far the most detailed cars in a game ever!

Keep in mind the good things:
  • 200 cars
  • 20 tracks
  • 16 players online
  • Day/night transition (fully realistic 24h races)
  • Damage
  • Upload online replays to YouTube

Sorry for making another thread. I know there are a lot of them started right now, but I'm just afrain all these discussions will delay the game further in case no one is hapy about what we've been given.

- The most realistic 200 cars on any console game.
- The most realistic tracks on any console game.
- The highest online player counts for any console game.
- The only simulator driving game with a 24 hr clock.
- The only individual panel damaging that is physics based on a console game.
- The only console simulator that has Youtube uploads.

Of course I am happy about the game and the Premium cars.

Plus, the game is not out yet, and there is still 5 months to go.

I think the majority would be more than happy with the above, I know I am, but why oh why are they even considering including these sub-standard models, because thats what they are, sub-standard, the Premium models should be considered standard models for GT5.

I am glad that GT5 has a lot of pro's. Its still hard for me to get over the 800
standard cars. How would you guys feel if they just scrap/cut all 800 standard cars? The idea of Premium of Standard is gonna mess with
people. Its like all the low end cars don't get enough love. Yet the high end ones do.

I can understand the the reason for the standard cars, as the premiums ones are beyond beautiful and are the best looking thing ever made in a game. I am extremely disappointed about the standard car issue as there were so many cars I was looking forward to in GT5 quality with cockpits, but this is what we get and it'll still be brill (a la GT3). I'm still worried about a lack of tracks, but that's for another thread.

What I don't understand is why people think the standard cars shouldn't be in the game, they will still have the same physics as premium and that enough should be alone, 350BHP Renault 5 Maxi Turbo in GT5 physics? Yes Please! Not to mention they also have some form of damage, both visual and physical.

None of this even touches on the brilliant features in the game. On the whole, it's not the best it could be, but it's the best there is and it's a still a GT game.

At the end of the day, PD and Sony pushed a product that they couldn't deliver. All this time, they've shown premium cars in every screenshot, video, demo, and in GT5P. After 4-5 years of that, they decide to announce that what we've seen for the past several years is only representative of the quality in 20% of the game? Nobody sees anything wrong with that? No matter how much spit-shining they do to the GT4 models, they will be vastly inferior to what a PS3 car model should look like. No real racing game within the last 5 years has had cars with dark windows and generic interiors.

I love how the forums explode with (literally) a thousand people QQing about the latest negative news from PD instead of talking about the new positives that are coming with the game (dust, gravel, tire smoke, lights, online, etc.)

Good for me!Some of the best cars I know are premium + race cars.Just want Toyota GT-ONE and Tom's Supra - I can drive them forever!

im pretty sure there's a video of the GT-ONE shown as a "standard" model

Don't get me wrong, all I have seen of GT5 so far has blown me away, I love it, but then they go and come clean about what a standard model car actually is and I feel cheated.

The standard model cars have no place in GT5.

200+ premium cars are great, they look awesome.:) the 800+ standard cars are a complete joke, i can't believe they would release this game with over 80% of the cars NOT having a cockpit view. in my opinion, the cockpit view is the only realistic view, and since this is a driving simulator game, all cars need to have a cockpit view.👎

I guess the other 4 GT's were rubbish then ?

Past GT games were fantastic for their time. But it needs to be understood that GT5 is supposed to be a next-generation game on a next-generation console that has been on the market for nearly 4 years. I could forgive PD for using GT4 assets if this game was a PS3 launch title but it isn't. This late into the PS3's lifespan is there NO excuse for using PS2 assets.

I would think that as long as they're not forced on you, there's no harm done and it's good to have them for the people who want to use them. I would imagine if the driving missions return, they'd all use premium cars. Some for license tests.

They're here now anyway, it would be a shame to just throw them away. Let the people enjoy them if they want to. Those who don't like them, just don't use them.

Every GT up until now had one level of car quality that was consistant throughout each game, and the same goes for nearly every other racing game ever released on earth so I dont see how its ok for PD to create the most stupid 2 tier system I have ever seen.

Robin.

As years progress things change, standards change. Those other GT's were the top of their game when they came out, everything was gen standard in them. GT3 did not put Ps1 gen car models in them.

Those standard cars were top of line 5 years ago on a 32 ram console not a console that is 30 times stronger. Some parts of games can transcend the gen they came out of, those GT4 cars were built for the ps2.

One day car models will be good enough to use through consoles but not until another gen from now, and not when they look 20 times worse than the cars built for the next gen system.

Please don't! So you are happy with 4/5th of the cars being polished Gt4 models after a 5 year wait.

lets get one thing straight here .There was no cockpit view in GT 1,2,3and 4
There was no online on GT 1,2,3 and 4
There was no damage in 1,2,3 and 4
there is however voice chat ,private rooms, variable weather ,better handling ,track days ,licenced NASCAR /WRC REVERSE LIGHTS (if you like that sort of thing ) do you want me to go on,so A BIG YES I am happy and it does sound like we have an increasing case of OLIVER TWIST Syndrome ......Please sir may I have some more ......oh we have ;)

Edit :I do agree that things progress and things come along ,but it's been like that with GT for as long as you can remember its stuck to its format even after the competition has different features ,but still its stayed the same compelling game until GT prologue .It even stayed the same from PS1 -PS2

i'm not very happy that 200 cars got the spotlight and others are there just to fill in

Well, this is my first post, so uhm... Hi guys!

So, first of, I'm a Forza player. And I enjoy that game quite a lot, because until GT5 is actually released, Forza 3 is second to none. To me, it will be, once GT5 hits, though. :dopey:

Now, I for one am quite happy with 200 cars being premium. I mean, it's an ok count. Looking at Forza, it might have 500 cars by now, but most of them are fairly useless.
You might know that Forzaa uses a Performance Index (PI) system to classify it's cars, with a total of eleven classes. At first, this is all pretty nice, but as you start to get a littlee bit more into the game, you'll start to notice all the flaws that come with said system. In theory, two cars featuring the same PI value should perform very similar, but in Forza, they don't. If you're browsing through the available cars and start to test drive some of them, you'll quickly notice how some of them can't be made anywhere near decently performing in any given class of PI.
Dependingn on the kind of person you are, this might or might not bother you, as the AI isn't very challenging and can be beat with basically any car. But, as soon as you're racing online or using the split screen multiplayer and face an opponent of equal skill, your car choice starts to matter. A lot.

To give an example on this one, I've taken two cars from one of the more recent DLC car packs for a spin around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. A Gumpert Apollo Sport (the 2008 model, labeled to be the 2010 one in the game...) and a Mosler MT900S. Both cars were in R3 class, both featured a PI of 800, so both should be quite close as far as lap times go. This wasn't anywhere near the case, though; the Mosler was a whooping 20 seconds faster. 20 seconds during a single lap. That's one second per kilometer.

As far as I am concerned, I don't want to be left in the dust just because of the car I chose to drive. Thus, I'll have to go with one of Forza's better cars. I actually have to filter through all those 500 cars and am left with just a few cars per class that I could actually use.
All things considered, there are maybe a hundred cars in Forza that are even worth driving. And just like GT's premium cars, it all depends on your personal luck whether your dream car is viable - or with GT5, premium.

This might, of course, happen with GT as well, but I'm kinda inclined to believe that PD is putting more time into quality testing and, while probably not being perfectly balanced, won't have such glaring flaws as Forza.

So, in the end, it doesn't matter to me whether I'm left with 100/500 (20%) of the cars in a game being viable, or 200/1000 (20%) are premium and worth looking at. The more I think about, the more I start to believe that GT5 will provide me witha wider choice of cars I could enjoy amongst it's premium model than Forza. All it would need to is make sure that half of the premium cars can actually compete in their associated races.

So, from a Forza players perspective: Don't gripe over the amount of premium cars in GT5. Chances are, you'll getting more out of it than out of any other racing game available.

Greetz,
Luminis

dont get me wrong I'm far from a fanboy but your assuming a hell of a lot from just a few screen shots .I posted a link in another thread from a reviewer who stated that the 800 + standard cars still used all of the processing power of the PS3 .

I don't really mind the standard cars not having cockpit view, what I don't like is the HUUUUUGEEEEEEEEEEE difference in graphics between standard and premium. Maybe it's just an old trailer just like the newer trailers had parts from last years E3 trailer in it. So maybe the difference won't be so big as it is right now. I will probably like everything about GT though (even the standard cars).👍

that's what lack of info usually does to people :sly:
just saying how i'm feeling like after watching the video with standard cars

I'll buy Gt5 with only two hundred cars. With a smile on my face!!! I just hope they are not all high end race cars. I hope they spread them out evenly across the game.

Knowing Kaz, I don't think he would let the game be released with such a difference in car quality. I have hope that in the final game, the difference won't be so dramatic.

And I seem to be alone on this, but I still think we will get some form of cockpit view on all cars. The line on the Japanese GT website saying something along the lines of standard cars not corresponding to interiors, I think that means we will get a cockpit, just not a completely accurate one. And that little piece of text doesn't even exist on the English GT websites.

I agree with Talon here. Apparently this is a standard car. I think it's beautiful. There may be no interior but the driver is still visible and somehow they may still have managed to put a dash and a steering wheel in it...

Edit: And that steering wheel is already visible too
