Wow, GM joining the rest of the world in the use of late 20th century automotive technology? Impossible....

hey hey... I happen to like GM... its just that they have been a little slow when it comes to small sport cars. :p

...or that their small sports cars are a little slow. :fdevil:

'Bout phriggen time too. The sooner they dump those pushrods for a decent OHC design, the better. I say this from personal experience (I owned a Buick Skyhawk-an 80s cousin to the Cav).

What are you talking about? the 2.4 are a bit of a step up from the eighties, being twin cam. But, yeah still not quite fast enough

Yeah, they had a flash of brilliance with the 2.4...base Cavs still use an OHV 2.2. Most GM products are sorta half-@ssed, IMHO. Let's just say that I don't feel inclined to buy 'em, anyway.

BTW, the new Sport Compact Car has info on these new J-bodies. Looks like I'll have to be careful. ;) They'd paste my Integra...if they held together long enough to finish the race. :fdevil:

Your dissin my z24 pretty bad man. ;) I agree with some of what you say, about being slow and so on.
Its also true about GM being in the stone ages with performance for the cavalier.
Things are changing with the new 2.2 Ecotech engine with 140hp and 150lb ft of torque. This will be the best engine for the cavalier in that its set up for boost.
The top of the line Cavalier (Astra) will have at least 230 hp with a magnusun super charger and thats the conservitave side of it.
At the SEMA show, they are highlighting Gm's most performance minded cars (sport campact) yet, and to the delight of many.
Btw, see how the j's are so slow, beat a 97z24 with a 100 shot doin 13.8, or an all motor 97z doing 14.8. Not bad and thats just a start since the aftermarket is getting better.
Just had to speak my mind about it. Later.
Ill have a pic or two up later of the sema cars.

I wasn't dissing it, I like the cavilers... I was just wondering when this new one will be out. And if it was just a rumor I heard. Who better, then you to ask!! The Astra, who is that made by?

Yeah, I wasnt getting on your case, heck, I was even agreeing with you.:p
The Astra is an Opel model from GM overseas and has been around for quite some time. They are raced extensively throughout Europe and even have a couple of representatives in the gt games. :D
Heres the URL for the address of the ecotech product. http://www.gm.com/automotive/gmpowertrain/ecotec_tour/specs.htm
Heres some pics of the cars in SEMA. Let the drool begin. :D

These last cars will be (hopefully) the top line models coming out. They will feature 268 hp motors with superchargers.
Let me know what you think. :p

wooohooo!!! The silver one and the blue one look sweet!!!

I have never liked the sunfire body design, but that cocept orange one doesn't look to bad...

So the cavalier is in GT3? I'll have to buy it to let my sis see it...
Maybe in GT2?

Its about time chevy steped up to the plate man. My family is a chevy family, and I can't believe how much money they are missing out on by not being apart of the small sport car craz of today.

Here is the car that will most likely take the place of the cavalier name.

Sorry its in spanish, but thats the only source I have.

Btw, the gt2 and gt3 games have the Opel Astra as the listing for the cavalier.
It will be the astra once marketed here in the states.
If you ask me, I dont like the new body style of the astra. Looks to plain and generic, but then again, look at the new civic. It looks pretty drab if you ask me.
Well, thats all the information I can find, hope this helps. Later.

thanks a lot man....

I totally agree, pretty plain... I think the 2000 looks really good. I don't like the z-24 though... I like the 97 z-24.
