Has anyone done a no-stop strategy on Tokyo? I just tried a custom race with the same parameters, I did a no stop in the Corvette by running the whole race on FM2. Intermediate tires were pretty whizzed by the end, I "won" the race except for my penalty I forgot to serve and the fact that the AI punted me on lap 8 entering turn 1. I am thinking this is my only viable strategy since the Vette is seems pretty outgunned here.

Literally everyone in both slots I did. Didn’t even consider pitting.

GTWS Manufacturers Cup Test Seasons 2 - Round 4 - Report
WRX GR. 3 - Tokyo Expressway
GT1 League - A/S room

I messed up my qualy lap on hards so had to settle for sixth on the grid. The first couple laps were a bit chaotic but clean. I ran most of the race on fuel map 2 with the inters, occasionally switching to 3, 4 or 1 depending on the situation. Started with TCS at zero, upped to 1 mid-race, and to 2 for the final two laps. Just in case. Ended up running out of fuel a couple hundred meters from the finish and coasted across the line for 2nd place, 2.3 seconds behind the winner. I guess the guy leading had better fuel management than me.

Second was only good for 156 points so the game crash on the previous round really hurt my DR pretty bad. Eight races now in GT7, one win, seven podiums, and one game crash. I would do it again, but this race is too unpredictable. Plus I need a (few) beer(s) after all that concentration.

I was not looking forward to racing in the rain again, but I still wanted to give it a go and see what I could do. My practice beforehand wasn't the best as I kept hitting walls and getting penalties wasn't helping my confidence as I entered the 19:00 slot. Qualifying was a mess with more penalties on my out lap so I restart and just set a time period as not to start in the back. In the limited time I had I got myself in P7 to start the race. I decide to race on the inters and hope the rain doesn't get worse.

A few cars get by me as I enter fuel saving mode and I don't care as I just want to finish. I'm down into P9 for a while saving fuel and I get a nice bump draft from a BMW driver for 2 laps but they pass me and I draft them to save fuel for few laps. Around lap 7 or 8 a few drivers pit and thanks to penalties I'm in P6. Where I cruise for the rest of the race. I was just out of range of P5 to get the slip from them so I was stuck. I only hit the wall once for a penalty, but I had a huge 8 second lead over P7 it didn't matter. I also fuel saved so much I had enough for an extra lap as I crossed the finish line.

Overall a good race and result for me. I almost spun a few times towards the end of the race as the tires went, but I was very cautious in the final few laps once I felt the grip going away. Also, the transition to night on the expressway was awesome with the track reflecting the lights from around the course.

A tale of 2 races:

I really wanted to have a good result in front of one of the event sponsors (and my team's secondary sponsor), but unfortunately my actual skill level had other plans...

Slot 1: Once again placed in a race with @Geauxgreddy and @mohitraina91. On my first flying lap (and best chance to set a good time with the track getting wetter), I had to yield to a McLaren who'd caught me rapidly at the beginning of the lap, only for that McLaren to later bail on their lap... My best time didn't come until my 3rd lap, by which point the track was too wet and I could only qualify 12th. I decided to start on wets and it was quickly evident that it was a mistake. I pitted after a few laps for new wets in anticipation that the track would get wet enough for them, and I didn't want to be on worn tires that had been scrubbed across a semi-dry track for several laps. It still didn't get wet enough, so I pitted again for inters, by which point I was last out 18 and a long way off 17th. I actually started rapidly gaining on 17th, but kept picking up stupid wall penalties and hydroplaned into the wall before T1 twice, also giving me penalties (which is why I wanted to use wets in the first place...). Finished last and extremely frustrated, especially since another Corvette won the race, and yet another apparently finished inside the Top 10.

Slot 2: Picked up stupid, totally avoidable wall penalties on my first 2 attempts at qualifying, and by the time I set a lap it was once again way too damp to qualify even remotely well, so I picked up right where I left off down in 18th, with 1 of the people I managed to beat not even setting a time. Immediately on the start (on inters this time...) I passed a Supra to move up to 17th. From there it was about just not making any stupid errors and also avoiding hydroplaning as the track got extremely wet towards the end of the race (though I did catch a puddle going into T1 on the final lap). I slowly picked off cars 1-by-1 until I was in the Top 10, then looking at a Top 5 when "Idiot Me" returned on Lap 10 and I massively missed my braking point into T1 by going way off line up the inside and shot past 3 cars before slamming another into the wall. Fortunately they didn't spin or get a penalty, but I got a very deserved 4s penalty for the contact. That dropped me back down to 8th and several seconds behind that pack. 2 spinning cars later (including the car directly in front of me coming out of the last corner on the last lap) and I was back up to 6th, which is where I finished for 226 points. Unfortunately I have to take it because this is my first 200+ point score this season, but I could've done even better had I not made stupid mistakes once again in qualifying and the race itself. A podium was definitely possible. Oh well, guess I'll see about grabbing a good result from the Gr.4 car at Fuji...

Yup, did no stop in the Viper. Pretty sure everyone in the race did it no stop. I ended nabbed 2 extra spots coming off the last corner as the two guys in front of me, one ran out of fuel and the other had to lean out to finish and I had saved enough to go FM1.

: Back to back races with @GTWolverine and @mohitraina91 who I just learned is TPC_Gooners! I actually got some practice in for a change, 4 days between races, so I knew I needed to be patient and stay away from the walls! After a very forcefall pass by an impatient driver in qualifying I still managed a Q3 on inters. Pole and Q2 managed to get two laps in on RH. Knowing that, I figured I'd just drive with a cool head and wait for mistakes. Well, it paid off. ZERO mistakes from me in combo with a couple mistakes by others guaranteed a good finish. Very intense race, especially when it went dark and I couldn't see crap because my monitor was set too dark. AHHHhhhhhh. P2 in the end. The P1 Corvette driver absolutley smashed it. Perfect race for him. I took home 283 points. So Close to the magic 300. Yet so far away. One and done. Streamed this one for a change. Qualy starts at 1:04:00

First attempt in 8:00 time slot, to my surprise I qualify P7 on inters, race is going OK until I bounce off the wall, then someone shoots to my inside, hits the hall themselves and turns into me. It dropped me back to 15th, then I hydroplaned twice on the main straight, finished dead last.

Second attempt at 9:00, I qualify P6, mostly drama free race with some close clean racing. I managed to keep it together to finish P4. Ran both races on inters, no stop with FM2. I did see some make pit stops in both races.

As an aside what is wrong with people? I'm far from the best, but I try to stay clean. I thought being in the GT1 group it would be all clean racing. There's just as many people who are turn 1 heros as daily lobbies. This is a 12 lap race, it's raining, cars are bunched up, and there's lag. Give a little room. Countless times I've braked early or hard to avoid hitting someone only to have the guy behind me come barreling through. No anticipation whatsoever.

And by bad, I mean minding your own business, at a buck-sixty something, in a straight line on a mile long straightaway, and running second. Next thing, you're 14th, backwards and looking at your 1.5 second penalty.
Crazy how fast the back end can get in front of the front end when you find standing water on IMs. LOL.

First time it happened to me I actually thought my game glitched/lagged and I got punted somehow. Second time I noticed the car floating and the RPM jump and realized what was happening 😂.

Tough finish to the Manufacturers race for me today.

Toyota GT500 97. B/S lobby, qualified in pole with a 2:06.2.

Got out to a good start, but was saving fuel early and got passed by a few folks. Held on to top 3/4 during the majority race, when some pitting and incidents put me within a couple of seconds of 1st on the straight to start the final lap. He must have been fuel saving big time because I was catching up to him quick and got the pass in right at the end of the straight before the ramp. But earlier someone had spun out there, and I guess exited the race, because their ghosted car was sitting there on the middle of the ramp for a couple laps. Yellow flag hits literally a couple of tenths before I got the pass in. Too quick to react to before the pass happened. Gave the position back immediately while still in the yellow flag zone, hoping to avoid the dumb penalty, but no dice. 3s penalty. Got by the fuel saver in the next section and tried to get enough distance between us to neutralize the penalty, but there wasn't enough track left. Ended up losing out on the win and took 3rd.

Rough end to an otherwise awesome race. Yellow flag penalties make absolutely no sense in virtual racing, and need to be removed from the game.

What did you guys think about the penalty system in Tokio?

It seemed a bit more fair to me. I got punted multiple times hitting walls and other cars as a result and was surprised to get no penalties.
All in all penalties seemed hard but fair. (Got a 2 s penalty scraping the edge of a car when overtaking. He probably didn`t register.)

The race: Bothed my Q and got 12th. Made a no stop in Inters with the Mazda RXVision. Finished 4th after a chaotic race.

PS: GT3 DR:C

look at this.... High Speed Aquaplanning Spinn and hit the Wall.. + 3 Sek penalty... it´s frustrating :D

That standing water is treacherous and caught many drivers out. There is no way to save that. The rain is quite varied and changes the conditions significantly. It is however frustrating to also get a penalty on top of time already lost. A 3-second penalty given is more like 6 seconds or more time lost due to the long straight. 😥

In addition, there is the severe damage to the vehicle, which means that you lose at least 1-2 seconds. That's tough... except for the 3-second time penalty, but for me it's absolutely fine, that's racing.

For a good hour afterwards I kept thinking..."Would that have happened to me too if I had stayed on rain tires?" Because I had just switched from R to IM and wanted to improve my ranking in a final sprint. P6 would have been possible. Because the Mercedes I overtook shortly before ended up on P7 at the end.

The biggest issue I have regarding aquaplaning is that the drying line follows a pre-determined line and is not dynamic. And that line is a bit weird in some places I think, especially on straights such as this one.

Looks like the WRX Gr.B is the meta for the nations race today. Hoping my Focus can keep up, not going to drop 450k on a rally car for one race.

Slot 1 in Oceania Nations. Lobby loaded and I was 2nd ranked in 2nd split. Great to see @Redneckchef and @Raptor013 for the first time in GT7.

Qualifying was a bit of a struggle as I kept catching the car in front at key points on the track. Going into my last flying lap I was 3rd with a 1:32.2xx but with clean air ahead. I hooked it up pretty well and crossed the line with a 1:31.9xx which was good enough for pole (but still 3 tenths off my best).

Into the race itself and the start was smooth but I got punted wide at turn 1 by the car in 3rd. This cost me 1 spot but not much time. Things seemed to kick off in the pack shortly after and the 2 of us at the front pulled a gap of several seconds over the first half a lap. From there it was only ever a 2 car race and on lap 3 I got a run up the inside into turn 3 and made the move stick. 3 more laps of tight, clean racing with P2 within half a second the whole time until lap 6 when he got the exit from turn 4 a bit wrong and dropped to around a second behind. I then lost my mind and ran wide at the final double right receiving a 1 second penalty. When I served it on lap 7 P2 went by and I slipped in behind and started the final lap 4 tenths behind.

A better exit from turn 1 meant I had the inside by turn 3 and again I made the move stick. P2 then exerted enormous pressure for the next few turns but drove super clean. Into the double right for the last time I maintained good pace and P2, pushing hard to get the win, ran wide and got a penalty. Crossed the line first and the eventual margin was 1.5 seconds after the 1 second penalty was applied to P2.

It looked like redneckchef and raptor had gotten caught up in the mid pack scrum.

195 points is a good return at a combo I like.

Had a tale of 2 races. Was in the first slot with @D_Dragline and @Raptor013. Qualified p9, but with the top 11 separated by less than a second I couldn't be too upset. Got caught in the turn 1 scrum but came through with no penalty. Then got bumped into everyone at turn 2, pushed wide at turn 3. And it kept going. Several people seemed to just struggle with the grip or lack of under braking and rear ending people. Only person I saw really swing swing be dirty ran me wide a few times and bumped me wide under braking several times. When I got inside them for the final 2 turns on the final lap they ended up putting me into the wall to try and take the spot, but it didn't work. P9 on a ding dong battle.

Felt I was a lot faster so went for slot 2. It's a silly season, why not. Had @Raptor013 in there again as well as a friendly face I'd had a good race with in slot 1. The other driver gets pole and I'm starting p2. We head into turn 1 and someone behind doesn't brake. I get a semi solid tap from the rear and my previous knowledge of the track from GTS pays off. I floor it and go around through the runoff at full speed and take the lead. The polesitter is behind and someone with a 3 second penalty is behind him, but not even close. He flashes his lights and I settle on the racing line to try and nail some laps. I'm a bit scruffy, but by the time he takes the lead at the start of lap 7 with a good move into 2 we have a 10 second lead on the field. I get close but can't catch him at any passing spots. Last corner he pulls over to hand me the win as he was only doing the race as a goof. I end up trying to ram him across the line but still take the win.

Wildly different, but I'll take it. I had the pace and we simply played it smart once we had the slightest breathing room and worked to get clear. Still a messy combo as the cars definitely like to slide. Good luck on the grid starts and hold on to your helmets as it gets bumpy out there.

Tokyo Expressway (Rain) 17:00

Jaguar GT3 - Rain tyres (Qualy & Race)
Qualified 14th.

Tried to manage all race without pitting.
Was running in P6 maybe on lap 8, when an idiot (there were a few, as in real life), driving as the track were perfectly dry,
hit me hard on the last corner (hairpin).
Made me lost 10 secs. there, and maybe more 10 secs, while the damage was on. Could not engage 4th on the big straight.

Down to P13. :)
Untill the end, a couple of overtakings, a couple of opponents pit stops, allowed me to finish in P9.

In total, I had my fun scale on a good value, so I did not try another race.

Cheers

P7 and 158 pts yesterday with horrible pace. How you might ask? Waited patiently over 10 min with quali black screen. 7 drivers left for quali restart and race 😂😂

Yeah a lot to learn what comes to driving in 40-70% wet track conditions, with intermediates. Driving on full wet with wet tires or full dry, is a lot easier to be competitive atm. Shoulda picked Mustang instead, despite that car has worse straightline speed than GT.

I gave up this Manufacturer Season in the wet race at HSR. I've chosen Peugeot, and the RCZ gr4 was lifting its front at the end of the straight and going face front in the wall. it happend to me 3 times during the race, like going in a straight line, the car lift the front a little, then boom! I don't believe it was aquaplaning, because the rain was not that heavy, and some other cars had the same issue, it was at the end of the main straight when the track gets banked

I ran 2 slots today. Was great to see @D_Dragline and @Redneckchef in the lobby, along with a number of familiar names. Made an absolute meal of the start and was probably the main cause of "The Big One" at T1 (I seriously need to start remembering about Cold Hard Slicks given I race in the real world). Coped 7 seconds worth of penalties for that. (Although not sure what the second one was for as it came up as 2 and then another 5 straight after). Still I messed up so not going to complain about it being unfair. Started that one in 15th and thats were I finished.

Slot 2 was much better @Redneckchef was in the lobby and my pace was so much stronger in qualifying than Slot 1.

Got caught up in the chaos at T1. Almost got through it cleanly into P3 and away, but got a tap in the rear quarter which sent me off towards the grass. After I finished mowing the lawns, I ended up down in P8. But fought my way back through given other people getting penalties, running wide and the usual chaos that is Gr.B class races on a tarmac circuit.

Finished up in 4th well behind @Redneckchef who took the win. But happy with the points haul, so that was enough for the night.

The replay below is from Slot 2.

Good race man! You were rapid, and had the race pace to back it up. Nice job with the 283 points

Unfortunately, I couldn't keep up. Had no confidence in the car (VW convertible) in the damp conditions. Motivation to practice more and get better :)

See you out on track!

Rally race went really well at Red Bull Ring.
Im only able to do the first slot race, enter and during match making it was a bit glitchy and then quali started and got a black screen. Tried a few things and in the gave up!
Happy with my DNF 👍🏻

Short blast of a race today, enjoyed the combo but would have liked a few more laps here.

It's a wonderful thing to see a race at RBR that punishes divebombers and punters finally and there were red lights flashing all over the place. In Sport this place was a battle royale so the difference is much appreciated, even if it's going to take some a while to learn how to actually take a corner without using someone else as a bumper.

Qualified 8th, never been particularly fast on the this track, and got caught up in the melee as much as I tried not to. Some early penalties coming out of turn 1 and the hairpin set me back to 14th and I didn't recover much from there. Can't go again as I'm on dinner duty so that's that for the round.

Lovely throwback livery for the Ford and one of my all time faves by @GranTurismo0517
