Are you okay with GT5 going 720p native instead of 1080p?

you got ripped off somewhere along the line....

even at launch the PS3 was $599.99 + $59.99 for a game is only $659.98...even with tax just under $800 is CRAZY.....how much did you spend on that HDMI cable??!!

$70 for the HDMI and InFamous, I forgot I bought that at the same time for my son. Best Buy is where I purchased it.:dunce:

PS. I also got the extended service protection on the PS3 so I am sure that was added to the total too, so I guess now that I think about it I guess it was an ok deal but definately not the best buy around I am sure.

Yes it is. If you can't afford a PS3 and games, you can't afford a TV. If you can afford a PS3 and games, you can afford a TV. Anything else inbetween just means your priorities are messed up.
I won't try to prove myself. As you can see, some people here understand me, some don't... We all have different lives, different in many ways.
This is, than, relative.
Let's not talk about it any more, it's not what the thread is about.

because if it was SO EASY then there would be no need for manufacturers to bother with 120hz or 240hz sets when they could have just taken 60hz sets and allowed them to also output 24hz...

And there are websites that claim Sony's 24p Pure Cinema does nothing to change the picture, so what is your point? in fact nobody really knows how Sony's Pure Cinema feature works...
.

You clearly have not studied electronics like i have so please be quiet.

I like many test sites know how sony pure 24 works, it works great and completely removes telecine judder :)

Also both 5090 and z5500 are mid priced sets and price differense is only 200€.

oh now i need to "be quiet" lol...

so im curious, i would love to see these sites that talk about exactly how it works, because i have yet to see them....If it does actually swap its refresh rate it is one of the very few sets that actually do outside of the Kuros. I agree it does seem to do a great job of removing judder...but i have yet to see any definitive evidence that it actually switches refresh rates...

and lets get serious about comparing the 5090 to the 5500...the 5090 is a 2008 model and has been discontinued, and the 5500 did not debut until halfway through this year...the Kuro is in a class by itself in regards to image quality...

The 5090 was not a mid level set it was just the 50" version of the Kuro, there is NOTHING mid level about any Kuro...

just a quick google search for the two sets brought me to a website called rgbdirect.co.uk and it has the 52" z5500 for 1995.00 British Pounds, while the Kuro (when it was still available) was 2499.00 Pounds....even over a year after it was released....

$11.90 For the cable I got! Damn, I paid $60 more then I should have!:dunce:

PS. Before you get yelled at I will Kindly ask you to read the AUP and work on remembering those capital letters. Thank you for that HDMI info by the way!

No problem, I hate when I see people get sucked into the marketing involved with "HD Cables."

Just for future installations, anything under 15' of cable and there will be ZERO difference in the picture quality from HDMI cable to HDMI cable regardless of brand/quality (unless of course you actually get a faulty cable). Over 15', and particularly over 30' and you are going to want to look for a higher quality cable. Now, that doesn't mean you have to spend $100 on a cable. Many of the cables on the site I posted are perfectly good for long distance runs, you just have to step up the quality scale a bit.

Thanks about the caps. This is the only site I use that has a capital letter clause, and I often forger.

Afford is a relative term. All it means is to have the financial means to be able to purchase something. I think its fully reasonable for someone who only has a couple of grand a year to spare each year to spend some of it on a console.

There's a difference between being able to afford $500-600 for a PS3 and game, and almost $1500 for PS3, game and 1080p TV.

Not to nit-pick, but 1080p is 1920x1080... and I hope they can keep it at 1080 since that's the native resolution of my TV (and every other 1080 set) and the picture always look better on an LCD at the native res. I also have a feeling that they may be willing to sacrifice the maximum grid size so they can shove in more eye candy for bragging rights. It wouldn't be my design choice, but the way the game business is these days...

To re-center the conversation back to the main topic:

As far as i am concerned, i have been playing GT5-P for a year now on my Samsung 720p 50-inch Plasma... The graphics are the best i have seen in my life... .... until my GF acquired a Samsung 1080p 50-inch Plasma from one of those Thanksgiving Black-Week Deals ...

I did not think there could be a difference between the two sets, as the 720p resolution is great enough already for me... "how could that be improved even more" i told myself... :dunce:

But I could not be more wrong, and so i was unprepared to face the new reality...
my mind was blown away at how much better GT5-P and the PS3 are on the new TV set... 👍👍👍

this past weekend, i have been trying out the new Plasma (1920x1080) ...
IT IS so crispy / crystal clear !!! BEAUTIFUL!
It DOES! make a difference!
That's why i would not want PD/Kaz to downgrade to 720p... :ouch:

If you are considering on purchasing a Big screen (larger than 40 inch) and are a big fan of GT series, I would totally recommend it to everyone to get a 1080p screen, if you are lucky/fortunate enough to afford it... (anything less than 40 inch, save your money and dont bother with the 1080p, you will not see the difference.)

So for now, i will be switching between the two Plasma screens, and bringing the PS3 back and forth:
one TV is upstairs in the M.Bedroom (1080p),
the other is downstairs in the Living Room (720p) for when guests are home, or if i want to play with the Cockpit/Seat. :sly:

game should be 1080p.

720p vs 1080p on big screens is like night and day !

I have to say yes to that ... When playing GT5-P, ( am not talking about other games since i dont own any other games than GT5-P) The differences in graphics and visual eye candy are NOT minimal... you CAN see a better rendition on the 1080p and what Kaz intended you to see when playing this game. On the 720p, there is a certain "lack"/"less" details, especially on the cars' lines.... the visual are "downgraded" on a 720p large screen... having said that, it would not bother you until you have seen the true graphics from a 1080p....

When people talk like this about the quality of the picture on 1080p, maybe it's even better for me not knowing how good it is...

1080 or 720 will not solve any Graphic slip ups in GT5, It looks better on a
40" 5 meters from the screen, then being in your driving setup, in about 1.5meters from the screen ( not that great actually )

Thank god that i didn't spend money on a 3D TV.. I would have been so dissapointed, GT5 visuals is a Mix of Good and Bad stuff ..

Great driving feeling, love the online feature, i can't say anything bad about The Driving/sound/overall graphics of the Game, but besides that, we sure have some wierd unproffesionel stuff, like the Jeff Gordon's lipsync's introduction of Nascar - SO bad that I would fire that guy who did that, or even the guy who let it slip through ..

we are in 2010 and we have been waiting like 5-6 years, nothing like this should be in the game..

GT4 Cars should have been redifined, updated to look like 2010, they are so tacky, that it's like for a game in 2001..

The Sound of the cars are really a great piece of Work, I don't know which Car sound is correct, but I do love the ex: Nascar from outside Wierd my god it gives almost a Bonner

the shaders are in some causes Great, but there is Many problems with it.. :/

GT5 is a great SIM, and I'm all in for it, but lets be hornest, it sure has some stupid stuff around..

1080p just looks better, You can see far ahead better and around corners nicely. The extra resolution makes a difference. Funny its come to people arguing about 720p over 1080p. Not debatable at all. I play all my pc games in 1080p even if I have to lower afew details.

The difference here is that 1080p really is 1920x1080 like you play with on PC, there are hardly any console games that play at that resolution. The 3 or so games that do play at that res are last generation ports AKA virtua tennis and Nba street.

This games runs at 1280x1080, which is just slightly higher VERTICAL pixel display than 720, while the horizontal pixel display is the same.

my PC montior which i have my PS3 hooked up to via HDMI complains if the native resolution is not 1080 @ 60Hz but my game is running in 1080p
