OK, having had a play with the toolkit menus I can confirm that everything seems to be working, even foveation.
I now know why I changed the menu overlay from ctrl+down, it's because that's what I use to fly around in VR.
The toolkit menu is one of the most frustrating UIs I've ever used. Why the hell is simple mouse navigation not possible?
It's so counterintuitive it's far too east to accidently break a previous setting without any way to revert.
Hateful, hateful UI.

To those who still cannot activate the overlay UI, try unticking fullscreen in AC video options. That's the only thing I can think of.

So, if I understand correctly, you can access toolkit in game using Oasis, like we used to with OpenComposite.
Yes, using the 'down' arrow with my ctrl modifier. The overlay settings menu appears exactly like it did with WMR (and is just as horrible to navigate).
I really need to change activation (and navigation) away from the arrow keys because at the moment those navigate the menus but also make my VR viewpoint fly around if I'm in F7 cam.

It is my turn to be puzzled, as I cannot get that menu to appear in AC using Oasis.
Probably some setting somewhere, at least now, I know it can be done.
It is probably not a setting in AC, as the menu does not appear in any other games either, it used to with WMR, so not specific to AC.
I know it works because I can see it in AC Evo, which is different from all other of my games as it runs OpenXR native. So it by pass OpenVR in Steam VR.
Something in my SteamVR setup is blocking that menu for me.
As mentioned before: The plot thickens. :)

Hey all, wondering if there is a friendly soul out there who can help:

I am running Assetto Corsa using Virtual Desktop + OpenVR + Opencomposite (mandatory) + OpenXR Toolkit and the companion. I found it gave me like 30fps extra over running it through SteamVR and Airlink, which was a HUGE surprise.

Question 1:

Is this the right thing to do in 2025? Is there any new tidbits I've missed?

Question 2:

The only downside I have in running it in (actual) OpenVR is that the little yellow mouse dot in the pre race menu when you are sitting in the car, the mouse isn't able to cover all of the screen. There is like an invisible wall. Using the Quest 3 handcontroller does cover the whole screen, but it sometimes takes over the dot sometimes not. It's very frustrating. Often I have to hit ALT+F4 at the end of the race just to be able to get back into content manager.

I've tried a myriad of options in Assetto-> Video, checking fullscreen on and off, fix res automatically, changing the default to my screen, etc. Nothing helps.

Quest 3
5070Ti
Assetto Video set to OpenVR and custom resolution at 3000x3000x0
My actual pc screen is a 1920x1080 display
I don't run passthrough or mixed reality
I have all settings maxed out in Assetto and the in game renderer shows 112 fps, so performance isn't an issue

Very weird indeed. I can't see anything obvious in your SteamVR settings.
It'll be something simple somewhere and you'll kick yourself when you find it.

My Oasis conclusions so far:
  • OpenXR toolkit seems to work fine (hooray!)
  • Tracking seems normal
  • Performance does seem to be down slightly compared to what I've been used to with WMR, but that could be any of a whole host of variables and not because of Oasis
  • I will never miss those pointlessly annoying WMR splash screens or that cliff house environment with the tweeting birds
  • My audio no longer gets hijacked by the headset on starting VR, only Crew Chief comes through the G2 headphones now, as intended. Main audio gets piped through my amp automatically.
  • Everything just seems slicker and quicker with less faff compared to the WMR bloat.

Who would have thought that Microsoft actively working to brick our WMR headsets would have eventually led to a much better experience thanks to the tireless work of one genius coder?
Microsoft actually did us all a favour with their scorched earth WMR policy.

I think I now why, I am on 24H2 and you are on 23H2.

OpenXR tools is not compatible with my OS

So 24H2 not only kills WMR, it also kills OpenXR?
Goddamn.
Seems like I have to keep trying to block 24H2 then, just when I was about to allow it.
That is terrible news. The OpenXR toolkit makes a HUGE difference to performance.

@Cote Dazur maybe ask the question in the Steam forum I linked to recently, maybe the dev will clarify what the issue is?

OpenXR tools still works for me, if I do not allow it in Steam VR I can see a difference, it is access to the OpenXR toolkit ingame app that I do not have access to.
Except for AC Evo, where I can access everything, probably because it runs native on OpenXR.

So it's impossible for you to make changes to the OpenXR Tools settings in AC now?
But existing settings work?
Are they global settings, or per-game?
Can you alter the settings in AC Evo (where the menu overlap appears fine) and then they'd translate to AC?

not possible now.

I believe so, but I am not able to verify, all I know is that it looks and run better with OpenXR toolkit layer API on in SteamVR.

I don't know, with WMR they were per game settings, I assume they still are, but not sure.
