"It handles like an Audi!"

Oh dear...

Considering it's an entirely new car, they don't seem to be having too many reliability problems. I reckon this'll be a big contender at Le Mans this year. Any news on what it sounds like yet? I've never heard a diesel engine through a racing exhaust system before.

I'm more of a Dyson fan myself but I can't wait to see it in action at Sebring. My break from school starts the 17th.... just in time!:)

I'm on the Dyson side of things, too, Dougie, and I sincerely hope that the R10 has plenty of mechanical woes, is incomprehensibly slow, and is rapidly discarded by Joest and Champion.

I don't care how many of 'em Audi sells in Europe, it'll do irrepairable damage to the romance and glamour of top flite sportscar racing if a diesel becomes the dominant machine.

This is the sort of thing that would make men like Enzo, Colin, David Brown, and Sir William turn over in their graves.

Looks fairly unlikely, that. The R10 looks to be dynamite.

I also think you've a fairly narrow-minded attitude there Layla's Keeper. None of the individuals you mention would have had any problem with it, since they all stood for technical innovation and a win-at-all-costs style. Enzo was notoriously unromantic, and would have filled his cars with equal quantities of cow manure and baby seal fur if he thought it would make them go faster. And does it really matter what fuel they're running on?

I can't hate on the R10, I hope it is a strong car this season. If not, then it would not be fun watching the Dyson team crushing their old cars. The stronger the Audis are, the more satisfying the Dyson wins will be.:sly:

Looks like you might have a bad season, then. The R10 beat last years pole position winning lap time by one second in the Sebring Winter test session last week. Plus, very few problems popped up, and none involving the diesel power plant. Their only concern now, as far as a team performance on race day, is reliability. The R10 seems to have plenty of it.

I agree, although I’m not sure if Enzo would be the one filling his cars with cow manure, I think he might get a mechanic to do that for him.

It doesn't sound much different than gasoline-powered machines. It doesn't sound like a Kenworth big rig ;)

Actually, it's much quieter than gasoline powered cars, and less smokey, too.

the engine revs at, what? 3, 4, 5 thousand rpms? of course its quieter. not to mention its based on audis notoriously quiet ROAD GOING diesel platform seem in VW's and Audi's alike here in NA. The R8 that was mentioned earlier as being the all-time lap record holder or w/e from 2002 to the best of my recolection (i go to sebring EVERY year and have been going since ALMS' conception) ran at 7 grand. The last edition of the R8's which were slowed down by the ACO for "safety" reasons (*sneeze* the french were pissed about loosing EVERY year at their home track *sneeze* [the plan failed CHAMPION WON!! w()()t!!]) i think was restricted in rpm and was a actually running a 3.6 or something instead of the original 4.0L twin-turbo 8. and was not allowed to boost more than 1.0 millibar (on the original Le Mans winning cars, i.e. the one from GT4, they were allowed to run something like 1.6 millibars.) TO CONCLUDE; the R10 looks great (in my opinion) apparently it runs great, its quick is sh**, and looks to continue Audi's domination at Le Mans. (ALSO: audi will have the best prepared car, the only factory entry, unless you count Dyson or Pescarolo Sport who aren't truely factory, and they otta be the best prepared. Dyson's new P1 AER-Lola is gonna need development. it appeared be competitive in P2 last year but when the Porsche got in at Laguna, it appeared to loose some of its luster. with Audi and Porsche being linked to each other [not the same company, their legally seperate and their stocks trade seperately; though they do share some platforms] mechanically, this R10 SHOULD clean up at Le Mans.

I'm amazed at how quiet Audi makes these cars. When I first saw the R8, I was impressed that not only was it the fastest car on the grid, but also the quietest. It's like Audi's engineers ran out of things to do after making the car so dominant, so they decided to make it the quietest car as well as the fastest.

Sorry, but there are some mistakes in there:

-The V12 in the R10 has nothing to do with the V10 of the Touareg/Phaeton or with the V8 from the A8. They are diesel engines, but the similarities end there as the R10 has a purposely made racing engine;
-The Audi R8 never had a 4Litre V8, it had always the 3,6L version (the 4litre was in the Bentley and only in it)
-The ACO didn't try to prevent Audi to win Le Mans last year, infact all old-generation prototypes received penalties, like the Dome-Judd from RFH or the Rollcentre Dallaras (you can argue though, that the penalties on the old LMP675 were smaller, so the Zytek were the fastest things out there except at Lemans and Monza). And, just to reafirm this thought, this year the Diesel powered cars have a massive rules break when compared with the normal petrol cars (like bigger restrictors, bigger fueling nozzles, etc)
-Porsche and Audi have some links but their cars are completely different (and yes, Porsche owns 20% of the VAG group, which then owns Audi :sly:
:sly: )

I wouldn't be surprised if Audi dominates every single race this year.

Of course there aren't any expected problems. Audi has a lot of racing experiences and probably knows every little bit of what their doing with the new engine to reduce problems to 0.

Relax the porsche spider is reportedly faster at the moment.

If it is in fact faster, then we're gonna have some pretty interesting finishes in the ALMS aren't we? Reminds me of when the LMP675 Dyson beat the LMP900 Audi Team Joest for the overall victory.
