my first car ever, Ford Taunus/Cortina. it spat out about 75bhp factory new ,and I don't think that it ever got them back.:ouch: and the car was around the weight of C5/C6 corvette, 1400-1500kg. I had ambitious plans to put in a 2.3l V6 and turbo it, but after finding the corrosion bomb in the trunk I gave up..:yuck: Fix Or Repair Daily, only for advanced DIY guys and gals and survive from that horrid thing.

similar to that one, except I think mine was facelift model and faded red.:ouch: even the memory of that thing gives me the creeps..

Hey, that doesn't look too horridly bad...

Of course, it looks MUCH too big to be mobile at all with just a 1.6...

v6 does NOT always sound bad IMOP, a grand national or TTA winding it up against the converter at the starting line is garaunteed to turn heads, there was also a straight six in a falcon futura that lifted the front wheels at the ol' strip, granted that's easier with less weight but still, impressive. wonder why I6 sounds so different cause the RB's always had a nice sound to them, advanced yet brutal.

when i said the I6's were aimed at fuel economy, they were, at the time when a caddy was in the single digits on highway mpg and the engine to have (hemi) was crankin out 425 hp and well over 500 ft/lb's in factory trim. 1960-80's smog era, not exactly a shining moment for anyone but motorcycle's back then. and the chrysler slant six is an impressive I6, that thing doesn't even need oil.

Any engine can put out power, any car can go fast, but when some kid spends as much as i did on my T/A to turbo his civic and ends up with LESS power then i have stock, i have to wonder why.. Honestly i have no brand loyalty, the car is what keeps me into camaro's and trans ams, for the money you get quite a car.

Talking about spending big money on little cars and achieving little, my sister just bought a WRX STi '02 model, and with probably around $10k AUD spent on it and a turbo running 20psi of boost it only has 240 something kw. That's crap.

240? whats that in hp? sorry but that all doesn't translate to me but, in america an sti is way faster then my car, then again i paid 2000 USD for mine..

240kw x 1.3 = 312bhp, more or less.. that would be power level I'm comfortable with in AWD car. even 500 sounds somewhat controllable.. but put that power to rear wheels and I don't want to touch it.

I see you've got the romanian bucharest plates on it. You're from romania then?

Yeah but still, all that boost and money spent and that's all it makes. A stock N/A Direct Injection V6 from Cadillac almost makes that. I'd expect that kind of power in my kind of cars Aspirated with less money spent than that.

MustangSVT, he's not Romanian (that I know of) and that's not his personal car- that's just the same model as what he had. So guess again :dopey:

Ahh the picture was an example.

I forgot about this thread. :O

Ooooooookay...from the top.

Holdenboy, my Gemini did 220km/h, but was only a 4 speed. Like to see a manual V6 Commodore do that. ;) And 2ndly, your comment about the 250km/h V6.....bro.....that was so funny I almost spat Coke on the computer. It took HSV until the Gen III before they cracked the 250km/h mark, in all honesty the ONLY way a V6 Commodore will get 250km/h is if it has a pair of snails pumping some SERIOUS boost in there!!

As for the STi comments, you have got to be kidding me aren't you?!?! Let's break it down for an Australian delivered STi:
Stock: 195Kw@flywheel - 40% drivetrain loss with WRX's = 117Kw@wheels.
Currently: 240Kw@wheels + 40% drivetrain loss = 336Kw@flywheel. = 437hp@flywheel.

So for $10k, she's more than doubled the power at the wheels. That's a bargain in any language dude. And I'll be real with ya. That power at the wheels is an EASY high 11sec car if driven right. If you guys can handle that, more power to ya's. I know how hard 4WD wheelspin is to control.

Leonidae, your Taurus reminds me of the TE/TF Cortina but in 2 door version which we never got here. Our ones came with either the 2.0L pinto 4cylinder (80hp stock, can be worked to 195hp N/A or 500hp+ turbocharged), or the 200ci (3.3L) six cylinder or the 250ci (4.1L) six cylinder. My ex-fiance's brother owned a TF with the 250ci, with Triple SU's and a crapload of work done to it, proven 12sec runner N/A. These days the 4.1L's are now being fitted with turbo's and running 9's here, and then there's people like this guy who puts a twin turbo V8 in there and runs 6's @ over 200mph on the 1/4!!

Enough of my novel, I've got more things to pick at another time. :)
Mafs!!

Dude, that was 240kw at the flywheel, not the wheels, and secondly I have been in this V6 Commodore doing 240km/hr aspirated with minimal money spent, we're talking barely a couple grand at the most, and my memory was shot, this is roughly the top speed here (240km/hr). And I wouldn't be surprised if a Manual V6 Commodore could do 210km/hr with just a power chip, so :p

i have a 4 door cortina in Australia and it runs well...dunno specs for it but its a 4 cylinder four speed

Hmm... Yeah, SUURE y'all managed 150mph in a 220hp, 3500-lb-at-best aerodynamic brick. Sure.

And I believe him about the WRX.

Actually the old V6 Commodores weigh under 1400kg. I believe my ute weighs around 1380kg. I can't remember what power it makes, it's something in the very rough range of 180 something kw and I can't remember if that's at the wheels or the flywheel. Then torque is just over 400Nm I think. This is an early '90s V6. Aerodynamics might not be great though :D So your estimated weight is way over, and it has good torque. 240km/hr isn't that unachieveable. My Ute would only reach around 200km/hr as it's stock standard.

Taunus, not taurus, lol. Yeah, some guys here are running 2.3l/2.6/2.9 V6 (latter being from Sierra/Scorpio cosworth) twinturbo setups.. although, I don't understand why, they could've had a faster car with less money IMO..:dopey:

I've been waiting for video of someone who knows how to drive driving a Clubsport R8. Here it is. It's off an Aussie TV Show, and is the first and so far only car to do a lap time. What do you guys think? For a 1800kg sedan I think it looks pretty good.

Next up is the twin turbo 6 BMW 3-series this weekend.
