when i first started racing, I used automatic, although i also used third person view. I now use manual and in car view. I can get more control with manual.

I envy you multitasking people. If i could corner and brake just as good using as I do using automatic, I would use manual.

 I'll admit the first time I used manual it was really hard. But I gradually got used to it and now I wouldn't use automatic while racing for anything!!

Now the license tests, that's another story.

I use manual, probably never would've if my friend hadn't shown me the light ;) It is way easier, i found myself beating my old times by about .500 of a second...which is critical.

I used to use manual for the licenses and auto for everything else, but now I just use manual all the time. I suppose it's from On-Line Racing.

and the manual is better on every point

u can control the traction u give to ur tire

all those little stuff that makes a huge difference in a race

i would use manual but like derf said multitasking i just cant seem to get the downshifting right and i forget to do it. i prefer automatic as i am lazy as well:lol:
also it does say something about you if u can do all liscences in automatic: you must drive good cos its slower:lol: :p  :p

Well, the shifting points kinda become almost a 6th sense to you
If you've driven the same car for a long time, you can have the music turned OFF and not looking at the speed, and still shift at the right points, because you're used to it already
however, when using automatic, you arehn't really gettin FULL CONTROL of the car
think about it, when a car changes a gear, the momentum is lost for a brief second, then it gets back
but, during that loss of momentum, the car's balance will be "destroyed" therefore, making it harder to control the car
however, if you use manual, the shift can be held to a later point.

Manual most definitely.

The thought of a computer choosing my shifting points scares me. :scared:

I use Auto all the time, and I have ALL GOLD on all the licences except for two - S3 and S5. I haven't had time to work on those 2 yet. So, it is easily possible to get good race times with auto, you just have to know how to drive good;)

In real life, however, I REFUSE to own a car with an Automatic transmission. Just no fun at all.

I prefer manual because I change when I want and I can go in the red line because some cars have more acceleration if you go to the end.

manual transmission fur real !!!

At Least you get shift higher anyways to drift it's better manual and i drift so i always play manual

I think using manual has more "feel" to it....

I hear ya. Better response times mean better lap times.

It's just like in real life. Manuals are faster than automatics in just about every car. Manuals also are more fun and get better gas mileage than automatics. One more thing, manuals have to be shifted by the operator. Automatics are controlled by the car.

always manually! it's more fun to drive, and it keeps you awake in boring races.

we'll i can use manual.. but usually i forget to shift up .. always remeber to shift down put not up... at the momenti use auto for evyerthing :D

i use manual for tracks and auto for those long run and stopping liscense like the bettle and viper....i just immatate what they do in the demostrations...easy gold. other than that it's all manual....for some reasone i hate automatic..even when i accideny chose auto sometimes i still try to shift....

i have never used auto since figuring out what worked good way back in GT1.

it is not a realistic driving sim if you are not even shifting some racecar on your own.
