Ever since gt 1 ive used automatic gear. For some reason i find it easier. You may call me lazy  and wimpy but manual transmission is just TOO hard.
Does anyone else use AT or am i the only one? :o

daz :p

I aint gonna diss ya cuz I started playing GT1 in Auto, after that Manual All the way. Manual is better because the automatic wont let you use all the revs available.

I use AT mainly, apart from the odd spot race or I leave my decision down to the circuit. Some tracks I'm quicker with MT, some I'm not. What I generally do is use AT but hold gears with the R2 button on straights and hairpins etc. If you've geared it right the car should be down in a low enough gear for most bends. :)

it gets boring in enduros to have to keep downshifting then up shifting, but it is better overall.

I really did try to get into the MT... I thought it'd be easier after buying the Logitech wheel (before I read the threads about the shifting problems)...

I just couldn't get the hang of it... I'm sure I'm losin' out on maximizing my power. However, it doesn't matter a whole heck of a lot, since I'm actually quite miserable at the game. hehehe - but, against the AI, Power will win over skill almost every time.

lol

I hope you include F1's in that... ;) :D

I've been using some MT the last couple months. It kinda brings a new reality and some advantages to the game. I really like it with the wheel and as long as i've shifted before the corner I have not had the problem that others have had with the drivingforce wheel.

I use both, it depends, and you can take full advantage of higher revs with automatic as well, you just hold down the R1 or R2 button and the gears will not advance unless you realse it, so its kinda semiauto.

Wha-? I've never heard of holding down the R buttons b4... then again, I've never used an auto after selling my Miata, so it probably is N/A for me :p

I use AT all the way. I have tried manual, but I just ain't cutting the mustard with it :p I have been using it since GT2. Most games I use AT anyway, just to relieve me of the extra duties.

Hmmm... i'm surprised at how many GT enthusiasts here are using slushboxes... let me tell you, once you'll learned how to use an MT, it's WAY easier to drive and corner, because you can downshift without first having to slow down... which helps a lot during cornering.

i used to use AT for all GT's, untill about a month or so ago. I switched to manual after someone started a thread about it, and i decided to try it. at first i kept redlining when downshifting for turns, but now i would not switch back to AT except for enduros.

Err... if i interpreted Angel's sentence correctly, it's, putting it mildly, vulgar. ;)

I only use manual nowadays. I'd been using AT since GT1, not that I couldn't drive with a manual, but chose not to and didn't really want to be bothered. But once I got GT3 I made up my mind that I would be using manual from now on. The main advantadge I see from using a manual is more control over the car. For instance, in GT2, it was a bit frustrating at times when I would try to get through a section real fast (such as a license test) and the car wouldn't shift down to the appropriate gear.

To be quite honest with you, I've only got the one F1 (from the roundy-round enduro) and have yet to try it out on anything but 2 player Arcade mode. (which is what I end up playin' 95% of the time).

But, I do imagine I'll use it at one point or another... My theory is, it is just a game.... By my logic, I'm not playing it to reach 100% or have all the cars (and kudos to those that reach those markers), but I'm playing it to have fun. If I get stuck at a race that I can't beat (since I lack the skill) I'll win using whatever means necessary to get past that point.

What's the point in owning it if it is no longer fun? <shrug> Just my opinion... for what it's worth.

:)

MT all the way;) You're losing out on at least 500 rpms each shift when AT-ing so don't screw yourself over and grab what's yours.
Or do you wanna spend your GT3 career screaming at the TV to "you moth*****r, *****ng shift the **** down ass****. There's so ****ing much torque left in 3!!! Whadda **** are you doing in 4th ass****!!"

:D :D

I thought I was the only one who used AT!! I decided to have a try at the manual transmission last night and it is still quite difficult, but cornering was much improved.
I usually hold down R2 to get the most out of the revs.

daz :)
