i think its a pretty neat feature that you can have an ai driver for yourself to train up.

Wow ! That's really interesting. I didn't know the B-spec driver can get better. At the moment my B-spec driver sucks major a$$.

So, do you have to actually "teach" him or does he get better just by using B-spec ?

Can you switch from A to B during a race if so how is it done?

Mabe a stupid question, but do you win the car wich you should win after a race with B-Spec?
And yes! RED50gt you can switch to B-Spec in a game if you pit in!

If it weren't for B-spec, I probably wouldn't finish the game until like a year from now. Working 70+ hours a week, I just don't have time for all the races, namely the endurances. And my wife would pour acid on the PS2 if I devoted my time home from work to a video game. :ouch: Two thumbs up for B-spec, good lookin' out... 👍 👍

if you dont like bspec dont use it, i think its a pretty neat feature that you can have an ai driver for yourself to train up. personally i get it to do the slow car races, i get no enjoyment out of them so i let it do em and then i can fly around tracks in the faster stuff which is a blast :D
that is totaly correct

He gets better as he drives, if you notice in the status screen it says his machine skill e.t.c. and these increase the more he races. However he doesn't get better quickly mine still comes off on the simplest of corners

Yes... you can either teach him or just let him learn. Lots of good threads on this discussion you can find by searching "b-spec". Lots of different thoughts.

Edit: Dang... Outgunned by both jizadude and Famine

I don't have a problem, either about this. Points in general are flawed, as pointed out here how to get lots of them them with the Dodge Ram.

So far, the only real measures of true skill I can see (without cheating) are gold medals and mission halls. Cash, cars and points are all easily acquired. Gold medals and finishing the mission halls are not.

The other measure of skill is winning a race in A-Spec with an inferior car.

Thanh Ha
And like being content with getting bronze medals or being a "purist" who wants all Gold, the games give you the choice. I don't see the problem. Plus there's the A-Spec points for those who want to brag. How many a-spec points acquired vs. number of "days" taken to complete the game.

I have similar commitments. However, all of my time playing is after the family goes to sleep so the only thing I lose is sleep, which is probably not too good for my health but it's the only time I have to play.

Your comment about not finishing in a year is interesting. I expect that this game will take me longer than a year to finish including all golds, all missions and all races using A-Spec. I'm plugging away at 24H-Nurburgring now and at about 19 hours in just about a week. I suspect I will be finished by this weekend.

But then, I've spent quite a few hours just on one gold license so 24 hours for the 'ring is not that big of a deal if I break it up into 2-3 hour segments. Certainly more fun and more interesting than retrying a gold license test 10,000 times.

Why? All I do in GT Mode is basically license tests, driving missions, photomode, buy new/used cars, and maybe a few races. I am mainly concerned with unlocking cars for arcade mode (got 707 last time I checked) and modding a few in my own GT Mode garage. B-Spec speeds up the process for me and I found it very convenient. I mean seriously, what's the difference between doing a 200 a-spec point race in gt mode and arcade mode? If I want it for the credits, I'll just run an enduro. If you don't like it, don't use it...

jizadude, Famine and phattboy - thank you very much.

My B-spec guy did pretty well yesterday in the Saleen S7 race on de la Sarthe... I guess he's really getting better. Cool. He won the race by 30 seconds. :dopey: 👍

I personnally don't use b-spec and will not be using it at all. What puzzles me is other threads started saying "which car to use for x championship" when they haven't tried to a-spec it at all. Another thing to all those people who say they don't have the time to do whatever races, this applies to enduro races but there is no law saying you have to complete the game 4 weeks after it comes out. I would rather drive for 20 minutes than b-spec for an hour and making money is really quick anyway so no need to b-spec for that reason either.

Personally I use B-spec from time to time just because I think it's fun. :)

I tend to agree with what you say, but be prepared for lame flames.

Yeah, your comment about threads describing which car to use for a championship is very puzzling. I doubt they have not tried A-Spec at all, I'm guessing that they tried it and are either too impatient or too lame to learn how to build up skills and become a better player/driver.

I used to like Sim City, Railroad Tycoon and other sims and I'm not sure if you can turn B-Spec into that sort of deep sim but it's not about collecting cars or cash, it's about driving and I think that's what people forget.

Flame away. Asbestos suit engaged.

Out.

Look when it comes down to it any form of motorsport is a team effort, you've got the driver, the pit crew, team manangers, track officials etc.

Now to apply this to GT4, the B-Spec mode is more of a team manager mode when used properly. The people that shove B-Spec on 3x with your driver set to overtake and push are not using it correctly not that I mind because its the choice of the player. Enduro's I'd make an exception for since not everyone has 24 hrs to sit and play a video game.

Sitting there and monitoring your driver is also challenging, using the variety of racing speeds to get close to the car infront and then pressing overtake at the right moment to make a perfect overtake is rewarding in itself. GT caters for everyone and that's what I like about it. Heck I know some people who only play it for the cars and not the racing. For me its a mixed bag, I love cars, I love racing and driving cars, taking pics of cars etc.

msako (and some others, but u are the main culprit), u seem to think people are inferior to u... just cos they use "b" spec.... get a ****in life!

i use, and will continue to use, "b" spec for long races... i will "a" and "b" spec when i want to (example: i have "a" specd El Capitan 200 miles twice now, "b" specd it once, and started with a and finished with b.... all with the same car... suzuki gsx r/4.... just cos i love the car)

i resent your comments that maybe those that "b" spec only have bronzes on the licences... man you're talking outta yer ass

given that "b" spec is in the game, i dont see how it could be seperated from the GT mode

i'm buggered if i'm gonna replay the game just so i can "b" spec it....

i have read write ups from people who have "a" specd the 'ring 24 hr, and i am in awe.... i suspect couldnt do it, well unless i played it over a few days (and maybe i will try one day.... maybe i can do it.... i just dont relish the thought LOL)

but, i wouldnt dare to knock anyone just cos they use "b" spec

contaminate scores??

if u dont wanna use it, then dont.... but dont whine about it ad nauseum

Gord

PS

my "b" spec driver (Suzi Wong, as i affectionately call her): overall skill 5054, 2465 miles (used for enduros)
"a" spec: 6558 (havent done any missions yet) 1860 miles 43.4% complete

i got to 48% before, but i hadnt done the special licence.... so i restarted the game, got the licence (couldnt believe it was so easy, i thought it was gonna be hard as nails lol)

and, i'm really enjoying the game

and, i love reading people's write up's and comments on gtplanet (this forum has added immeasurably to my enjoyment of GT4)

What I don't get is why my B-Spec driver wasn't able to pit for the last 2 hours of the 24hr Nurburgring race because he couldn't take the last turn properly and he ended up losing the race. EVEN DOING 50 F'N MPH HE'D WIPE OUT! I'd also like to add that unfortuantly, after the race, my B-Spec driver was fataly shot in the face 20 million times by a masked man while he was walking to his car in the parking lot. His funeral will be this monday, and pissing on his grave will commence afterwards.
My new B-Spec driver did win the next 24hr Nurburgring race though! HOORAY! 👍 Unfortuantly, the F1 car turned out to be light purple and white, WTF is that?!
p.s. Please don't make fun of my car. The color of my car doesn't mean your more of a man than I am. Trust me, my mom said so.

haha nice one SRV2 etc

i have wanted to shoot my Suzi too, awww but she just looks at me, puppy dog eyes.... i cant do it <sigh>

B-Spec made some of us lazy ... for sure

but when it comes to Nurburgring i am happy with B-spec ... damn that track is hard at highspeeds

Personally, I don't plan on using B-spec at all. I think it was created by and for the "young mentality" which believes people should be given things without working for them.

SO there's some races you don't want to be bothered with, huh? You're too lame to run the "slow" races? Fine. You "can't be bothered" to try the enduro or long events? Alright. You don't like the hassle of having to earn money?Great...you just don't get to do those events! It isn't your "right' to get to do those events. You don't like the fact you can't race them then? Tough! You don't want to put in the work, you shouldn't get jack!

I'm simply stunned at the amount of lazy people on here who want money and cars and completed events, yet don't want to do anything to EARN it! You mean I have to work for something?? Screw that man! Just give it to me because I whine the loudest! I mean, look at games now days. We've got secret cheat codes, we've got Game Sharks, we've even got TV shows who's entire purpose of existence is to tell you how to cheat a game! It's disgusting. No wonder my office is full everyday of people complaining about how "hard" life is. Life is expecting them to pull their own weight!

I think the fact you can complete these events in B-spec is lame, but to be honest, I think these stupid 24hr races are even MORE lame! But, I'll still do them in A-spec, or I won't do them at all. I don't expect anyone to hand me anything for free. Personally, I would have preferred that you could only use B-spec on an event you've already completed. If you don't want to do it in A-spec first, then you just don't get to have it completed. Simple as that.

Complain and ***** about my post all you like, but it's those who will respond the most vehemently that will be the exact same ones who expects everything in life to be handed to you for nothing. 👎

I plan on playing the game in B spec for enduros and for re running certain events at the moment to train my driver up to the 7000 points required to make him a decent driver.
I don't have the time to run all the 1000 km and 24 hour enduros in A spec.
I am playing by the rules of the game and am not cheating.
I also do not expect everything for nothing as you imply people that use B spec do.
B spec makes the game more playable for more people.
If I could save in a enduro then I would A spec them.
It is not practicle for me to leave my game paused while I have a break from GT4 as I have 2 children also wanting to play and use the PS2 when I am not using it.
I do agree that the 24 hour races are lame in there current format. (sSaying day time for 24 hours is just wrong).
Use B spec and learn to value its addition.

You are saying we have to earn things which is correct in real life but I think you are forgetting that this is a game which is used for entertainment and each person has the right to play it the way they want to.
Please stop calling B spec players lazy. Time restricted may be a nicer description.
Most important is that we all should respect each members choice on how they plan to play the game.

Personally, I don't plan on using B-spec at all. I think it was created by and for the "young mentality" which believes people should be given things without working for them... blah, blah, gripe about the way everyone else plays gt4, don't think about what I'm saying about folks I don't even know, yada, yada,... big snip... 👎

Having a bad day are we?

At rapidly approaching 50, I wouldn't exactly think I could be described as having the "young mentality" that you describe. (Incidentally, neither do most of the young uns I know.)

Fact is, I have already done my stint in A-spec and now am on the flip side and finding it every bit as much work, if not more, to beat this game the hard way. B-spec without overpowered cars etc... 👍 Frankly, there is nothing lazy or lame about doing b-spec this way.

Oh yeah, I still have my a-spec card that I boot up every now and then, run a few b-spec races to get some cash to go buy a car I haven't driven yet and give it a whirl for a little entertainment to help me relieve the stress of my day. I sorta sounds like you might want to give that a try... ;)

"Prepare for lame flames?" Are you ready for a tongue lashing? Just joking!

Like you, Msako, I'm an avid Sim City fan myself. I stopped playing it for a while as the magic kind of faded as I stopped playing it a lot. But just like GT4's B-Spec mode, you're still racing. I've been thinking about this thread more, and I kind of have a better understanding of this. I think you're probably wanting Gran Turismo Mode to be two different versions. So I can imagine if GT4 was on two DVDROMs- one A-Spec, the other B-Spec. I can also imagine GT4 like an RPG with two different endings and two different ways to beat the game. Why are A-Spec and B-Spec integrated together rather than two different modes? Well, I can think of a big reason. One is because that not everyone is like you. You don't see me posting replies about taking a stock 1949 VW Beetle against LMP race cars at either Le Mans endurance now, do you? What about a Fiat 500R against 400hp beasts at Nurburgring Nordschleife? As I've said in the past, account for everyone. Account for everyone. You're not going to be the only person in the world who'll play GT4. Since many others will play the game, many others will have many different tastes. And if one of those tastes is to become a better GT racer, but can't work his/her magic in A-Spec, you'll want to relieve their tensions by bringing B-Spec mode in. So with some magic in terms of getting B-Spec to work, you don't have to race in it if you don't want to. To say that B-Spec is doing the racing for you and takes away actually earning a win is horse crap to me. How is it cheating? It doesn't enable Super Tires or fire rocket launcher blasts to the competition, so tell me how having an AI racer do the racing for you is considered "cheating."

A reason why you don't "get" B-Spec is because you don't account for everyone. Not everyone is Michael Schumacher. Not everyone is the great Tommi Makkinen. Not everyone will be the next Mario Andretti or Sir Jackie Stewart. Wouldn't you rather give inexperienced GT racers a chance to improve their skills instead of being belittled by "I got 100% completion" and all that? One last rhetorical question: would you rather be a GT champion, or an also-ran?

It doesn't enable Super Tires or fire rocket launcher blasts to the competition

You must have a defective version. On my KS version, pressing 'select' shoots 5 homing rockets that zero in on my competition. Although, if the lead car is too far ahead, the last remaining rocket hits me. Time for a chassis refresh.
