When you're banned, do you have access to your account with a posting restriction? Or are you just disabled from logging in?

How on earth did a simple 2-question (answered) thread turn into a Hot-Topic?

Not necessarily, only one of the questions was answered. The other one...no one really knows what the question is.

Wow never seen so many mods in one forum! I was just looking at the banned user log yesterday and i read pratically the whole thing, took me and hour a half just to read the whole thing! Im telling you there are some crooked people out there:lol:

There's another board I visit with roughly 1 moderator for every 100 registered members (1600+ total, 300-400 active)...mostly as a reward to the founding members of that forum. While things rarely get out of order there, the rules are a tighter than here, mainly because there are a number of taboo subjects (religion, politics, sex, et cetera) that aren't up for discussion.

With about 20 active mods and roughly 5000-7500 active members (out of 200,000+ registered), we're fairly well spread out by comparison.

I don't think you can log in, but you can still access the site granted the fact that you get banned from the site in which case your ISP is notified.

Nearly got banned yesterday LOL .

I had no idea that moderators had to deal with so many people :scared: .

You can't use PMs, and you can't post...you effectively have read-only status, as an unregistered member would have. Oddly, we can see your name as a user "reading" a certain thread.

Pupik, just out of interest, what does GT Planet consider to be an active member. I.e. Is there a certain post per day average that determines this?

On the flip-side, I'd imagine once you cross a certain message per day threshold average (spammers), this would also begin to attract some attention. (No not planning on testing that one). ;)

Also while we're on the subject of stats, do you know the approximate numbers split between premium and standard memberships?

No rhyme or reason to the question(s), just general curiosity. :)

It was a totally random number I pulled from experience, i.e. my head/rear end.

There's no specific measurement that I can speak of, but seems to include posters who might average one post a day over a week, and logged in during that timeframe.

Click on the Site Staff, and all Premium Members are included. I suppose someone would have to count it up and divide it out...but also keep in mind that Premium Memberships didn't exist until mid-2004 or so.

Jordan would be expert on this matter...

Haha, thanks Pupik, an interesting insight none the less.
The Premium member number question sounds like it may be a project for a (very) rainy day. A quick count of total current members online right now (450ish) returned around 79% (standard) to 21% (premium) split - which probably doesn't demonstrate anything at all other than the fact I should go make a cup of tea and get back to my book. :dunce:
Cheers.

Oh Pupik, i can see your here right now, honestly i thought you were banned for some reason because i couldn't send a PM to or write on you wall. Anybody know why Mr.Bean, (the banned guy who commented here) got banned? He's not in the banned user log. (if you don't mind me asking)

That was a bug test which I unwittingly tested out on myself. We do those things so you don't have to!

Mr. Bean tipped over too many Reliant Robbins.

Ahaha good one 👍 .

He is on the log.

Look closely at the bottom of the list.

Oh okey thinks:tup: Could have sworn i looked recently and didn't see him there, who knows maybe i passed him.
EDIT: Oh yes i know that guy! He was known as obesessive rules, i used to see him in the GT5 Memes thread alot, he was one of my friends on here before he was banned.

Im alittle confused as to what that is supposed to mean, but i imagine it's bad!:ouch:

He didn't mean it literally. If you'e actually watched the show you would have gotten the joke.

Im sure i would have, i could look at his post and see. Frankly i still don't know what that means that pupik put. I feel stupid:lol:

What's also not showing up, assuming you're simply looking at the "Currently Active Users" list and counting off the red names, is the fact that a fair number of Mods are also Premium and there are a number of users that have themselves set to Stealth mode.

I got a PM from Obesessive Rules a couple minutes before he was banned. Good thing too, as I needed that PM.
Might as well change your name from gamerdog6482 to luckydog6482:lol: Now that's what i call a close call:)👍
Mr. Bean never actually said a word on-screen.
Yep i can see that. Silent, but not so bold haha:lol:
Bit of a reoccurring theme.
Oh i get it now haha:lol: Thats just too funny! He chose one of my favorite cars to:D:tup: Nothing like moderation humor:lol:👍
Watch Mr. Bean's 'The Exam' and you'll pass the test. ;)
Just did:lol: I think GTPlanets mr.bean can relate to that video real well:lol:

I have a question about the banned users who did the "IBTL" or whatever it's called. Would going into a thread about, let's say, American politics, then saying "inb4 Obama rant :sly:" Then in the next sentence, go "Just kidding, heh. *Discusses politics." Would that be considered an offense?

Another question about that, what if there's a thread about, for example, chicken. And ChickenMan-1032 (made up, of course) is a well-known member who loves chicken. Someone goes into the chicken thread and goes, "inb4 ChickenMan" and that's it. Would said person get an infraction?

And if possible, could you guys create an automated banned user log with "Spam" bots filtered out? Just wondering.

EDIT - I'm just wondering if anyone ever got banned for doing that. "Inb4" isn't exactly "in before the lock."

1) There was a time a few years ago that IBTL posts were all too prevalent, hence why that rule was made. While it doesn't come up nearly as often, it still does from time to time. That said, provided you actually add something to the conversation that has merit, the staff isn't against friendly jokes. Done ad nauseum, though, and we'll grow tired of it.

B) That would certainly qualify as spam. While I won't speak for all the staff, I base my decision on simply deleting the post and moving on or issuing a warning/infraction on the users history. If you've been warned previously, you're likely going to be receiving a PM from me, and not the "How's it going?!" kind.

3) It's not a requirement for the staff to post anything at all in the BUL. It's simply easier than repeatedly having to answer "Why did ChickenMan- 1032 get banned?" So no, an automated BUL isn't likely to happen.

Edit: That's just purely not smart. The staff gives out warnings and infractions for circumventing the swear filter and we'll do the same with subtle variations of IBTL. Everyone knows what you're attempting to do and just because you've changed it a bit doesn't change your intention.
