@ Bee: Very true, it does make it more competitive. But why would I want to make my season harder when I'm in the worst team as it is.

But surely my strategies must be working, after-all, Jess also uses my strategies, so they must work if I can get at least 1 4yr old car in the points every race, and now have 2 podiums in a row, and running 4th in the constructors championship!

I'm not looking for praise, just saying that I'm not letting out my secrets and ruining my season (or future seasons) by telling the world how to make a slow car drive competitively.

;)

Well done on the win Bee, I can't remember who came second though, probably one of the regular "runners up" - I was too exstatic on the podium getting smashed on the champaigne!!! 👍

Thanks.

Although yes you are doing rather well right now, if you were to win, you wouldn't be the first person to win in a Super Aguri in our championships. I believe it has been done before, can't remember who but there was uproar! Maybe it was Brett Edwards, can't be sure.

Listen here Allman. Next time you're infront of me (probably when I'm overlapping you :sly: ) I'm not slowing down!

Hahaha, at least I'm not the only one who enjoys giving Allman a hard time

@ Bee: Well the fact that it has been done before gives me even more reason to push for it because I know now that it's possible.

Does anyone know if Car Upgrades/Updates are on in theis series, I haven't noticed a single one yet and every other season I got to there's been at least 3 by Nurburgring

Honda need to get off their slack butt's and make us a faster engine!!! :grumpy:

Not me that I can remember - I've only pulled 6th and 4th with the Spewy Aguri.

I know what you mean, in my three seasons at Honda, I must have recieved around 5 upgrades in total, 3 were tyres.

WOW well what can I say.... Renault perhaps making a return to form. 1st in Storm conditions qualifying.

bout friggen time!

It's just a shame the weather has gone back to bone dry, a condition the Ferrari apparently loves.. :p

The Ring, Season 5 Quali Report: A Renault in the rain

In an unusually drenched, safe, and close qualifying session in Germany yesterday, Jef Beyens took pole by over a tenth, showing that Renault does indeed still have it. But a lot of other teams do too...

James Shepherd will start from the outside of the front row after a simple, clean-cut, and successful qualifying run.

And the next 2 rows are separated by a shocking four-hundredths (0.04) of a second! And amazing, all 4 drivers are from separate teams.

First up is Yuuji Kawasie, the Season 3 champ that finally hit his stride (or so he hopes) in the Midland in the wet qualifying.

P4 is Will Whitcomb in the BMW Sauber with 3 solid runs in the books without mistakes.

Row 3 starts with Herman Chang in a McLaren that actually finished all 3 runs - hopefully it can survive the race too. And in 6th is Lee Davidson, who pulled the outside of row 3 with only 2 planned runs.

The gap widens a bit out to Jessica Weiland in the other Aguri, still only a quarter of a second back. In 8th is Brad Horton, who had a brilliant lap again...on his outlap. If he had scored a perfect inlap things might be better for the Honda, but 8th is still points position.

Domingues in the second Renault is 9th after going out for the last run on wrong tires, while Allman rounds out the top ten in the other Ferrari.

Hutchinson starts 11th for tommorow's race but he had a poor 3rd run and may be faster than his stats reveal. Even so far midfield he is still only 2/3rds of a second off pole. It will be a competitive race tommorow if things stay like this.

And then things got ugly.
LeSabre, driving for Midland will start from P12 after running all the runs on tires that were suited for merely wet weather, not armageddon-style storms that rocked the Ring yesterday.

Honda's Charkaoui will start 13th for no apparent reason, and Graham of rival Toyota rounds out row 7 after also using Wet tires.

Dubois found a problem with the Williams on his first, slow lap, which then made itself apparent the next lap when he had the car quit on him. Thus he will start 15th on the grid. 16th and an amusing 11 seconds back is Mason of Toyota, who started on dry tires by accident. By then the mechanics were out for a drink and he was forced to do all 3 runs on drys.

In fact a lot of teams seemed to be out at the pub during qualifying. Row 9 consists of Lovett of Williams and Butler of Red Bull - both on slick tires.

The other Red Bull of Syme is 19th and George Morley will start dead last in the BMW Sauber, 17 seconds off the pace.

Strangely all this wet weather will have evaporated by the time we reach tommorow and thus it will be a bone dry race. Or so it looks, anyway - Hungary, anyone?

5mins till race time. Starting from 11th, i've gone for a fully aggressive race start. This can go 1 of 3 ways::

1, I blast past lots of drivers and make up some places.
2, I stall and go to the back of the grid.
3, I smash into someone taking us both out.

I'm hoping for the 1st!

And after all that Dunc, you gained one measly place.. Due to a poor starting BMW...

Well 2 on the bounce, I'm liking this car, no doubt I'll get picked in the lottery..

Nurburgring Race Report: Something to Cheer About

And a lot of teams had something to cheer about after the checkered flag waved at the Ring in Germany. Both Aguris finished in the points. Midland finally got some points. There were a total of 7 different teams in the points.

Oh, and Lee Davidson took his 2nd win in a row, and 3rd in the 5 races so far this year.

When the lights went out Kawasie of Midland shot out in front like...someone on a light fuel load. Because he was on one. 2 seconds back Beyens and Shepherd occupied the podium positions at the end of the first lap. Davidson was up 2 spots to 4th in the first lap.

At midfield LeSabre (Midland) gave Whitcomb (BMW) a little flick into the dirt which dropped the BMW to the back of the pack.

Lap 2 saw Kawasie continue to add to his lead, but there was strangely no passing. However, midfield there was another collision involving a BMW, this time Dubois's and also Mason was involved. Dubois had some damage to the suspension of his car and thus his pace dropped, but Mason was called in to the pits next lap to replace a broken nose. Of the car.

But if Mason had his way, Dubois would have a broken nose of the face.

By lap 6 Kawasie's lead was an impressive 7.8 seconds. But more impressive was the pass of Beyens's Renault by Shepherd in the Aguri for second place. Certainly the Aguris have been strong this season.

On lap 9 Toyota continued to have an unhappy day when Graham bobbled the car into and got some sand into the car, hampering it's performance.

Lap 10 saw another exchange of second place as Allman moved up into 2nd, after starting from 10th on the grid. Kawasie's lead was still 8 seconds and certainly he was starting to sweat.

Back in the field on the same lap Syme in the Red Bull and Domingues in the Renault had a spatial disagreement. Domingues spun and carried on, but Syme's car was terminally damage, resulting in his 3rd retirement of the season. Certainly the rookie has pace, but perhaps patience is needed also.

On lap 12 Allman dived into the pits on schedule, being the first to pit. The Midland mechanics breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that they weren't the ones with the lightest load today.

But Allman still had a shot at claiming the lead for about half a lap before he beached it at Ford corner on his out-lap. And that was the end of his race.

Lap 14 saw Kawasie give up the lead when he pitted, and the pit stop cycle ensued.

Somewhere in the middle of it all Davidson overtook Shepherd on the track for the lead on lap 19, one lap before the Aguri pitted anyway.

Beyens held the lead for about 8 laps before pitting on what appeared to be a one stop strategy, handing Kawasie back the lead. But now Davidson was only 1 second back...

Lap 31 saw Domingues in the Renault make a costly error, going for a trip to the beach at Ford corner. Luckily he was able to continue on, but he lost 9 seconds and third place. Frustrated, the next lap he made an error that forced him to the pits...luckily, for a scheduled stop. And then he stalled exiting.

On lap 37 Mason spun it into Veedol Schikane as part of a Toyota-planned PR stunt, since they were in the back of the pack anyway. Unfortunately his car was damaged and his pace would become further irrelevant.

Lap 41 saw the antics continue as Chang went offroad and damaged the car's suspension, slowing him down, and tripping him up as he spun the next lap and lost time also. But Toyota was not to be outdone so they had Mason smash his car to pieces and retire from the race.

Kawasie dived into the pits before Davidson, and by the time the Ferrari pitted, it was already far far ahead and driving into the sunset.

On lap 47 LeSabre in the Midland, like the BBC in 2001, suddenly dropped top gear, slowing his progress. Meanwhile, Domingues spun off from P7 to cap off what was ultimately a frustrating race.

Lap 51 saw BMW's Whitcomb spin off. Everything was ok...just kidding, as his oil pressure suddenly tanked for no apparent reason. And so he had to pit again.

The final incident of the race was much like the first. On lap 58, Whitcomb and LeSabre got together again and spun. Something bad probably happened to their cars, but they were both still running and there were only 2 laps to go.

And so the checkered flag flew and Ferrari had yet another win. Surely this will drive the tifosi mad with ecstasy but with Ferrari capturing 4 of the first 5 races it seems a bit one-sided.

Midland and Super Aguri beg to differ as the supposed backrunners both had a driver on the podium, Kawasie and Shepherd in that order.

Beyens was 4th in a typically strong finish for the Renault driver, and Weiland, Hutchinson, Graham, and Horton rounded out the points.

By now Davidson has a whopping 35 points and his next rival is 11 back. The lead looks pretty large now, but remember - it only takes a DNF by Davidson and a win by Domingues to close this race up.

As for the rest of the field...shape up.

Good races:
Davidson: 2nd win, 3 out of 5
Kawasie/Midland: Some points, about time
Aguri: Both cars in the points

Bad races:
Chang: Seems to be cooling off? (3-3-7-7-10)
Syme: went clunk, again
Allman: got pwned after the pit stop
Whitcomb vs. LeSabre: highly entertaining, extremely midfield
Butler: won a race, all other finishes in the tens

Ugly races:
Mason: A series of unfortunate events
Domingues: Except moreso (oh, and 2nd place or crash? eep)

Haha great report, well what can I say? Pretty much perfect start so far..

Yet another great report!!!~

Damn it, if that race was 1 lap longer I think I could've passed Kawasie, I pretty sure I gained about 5 seconds in as many laps at the end!!! :D

None the less, it was a very eventful race, many different drivers leading the race at some point, and all in with a chance of taking it. I may have dropped a spot from my qualifying effort, but I seriously couldn't argue that I was in with a chance to beat a Ferrari. However, I did beat the Renault, so we have the potential to win eventually! :sly:

I’m looking forward to beating you all next season… in the meantime I need a car. *sigh*

Hopefully I used up a lot of bad luck in that race. And I was running so well! Dropped all the way back, still got up to something like ninth, ended up out of the points. A shame, but I only dropped one spot in the standings.

Trust me, I know how annoying it is to finish 9th. I finished in 9th in the first 2 races, then retired the 3rd. Thankfully I think I've found a string of competitive strategies to keep me in touch with the top team drivers.

You'll also have to change your sig again, because Jessica Weiland is now in 5th.

Yes...keep in mind I'm lacking an active teammate. Now THIS is when being a Thinker is useful.

Yes...keep in mind I'm lacking an active teammate. Now THIS is when being a Thinker is useful.

Why do we have inactive people? Why bother signing up if you can't commit???

In the case of 'gooseter' (Tristian Lovett) I can understand because he had to move and now he's having internet troubles. But George Morley is online every day!~

Surely you've PM'ed him about his commitment issues?

Just finished my worst season ever - 12th in champcar. Geez it took a toll on my world ranking - I'm now firmly out of the top 800 (my personal target).

I might try another F1 season to improve it a little.

AH DAMINT!!!!! I was still on Monsoon tyres for Quali :banghead:

My teammate got pole so i was definatley gonna be up there.

*edit*
So did Bee and both the Renaults!
