McLaren me.

I think you missed it by 2 posts, Luke Mason just took it!

If that's the case there's a spare BMW Sauber spot available. I would say that McLaren and BMW are pretty much on a par, I'm in a public F2006 game at the moment and there's a BWM leading the championship by 25 points, second and third place are being held by 2 Ferraris with drivers in the TOP 100 (before BATracer reset all stats).

I'll have that open Toyota seat thanks :D

Machiels getting close to his F1 comeback:

Now that first driver at Toyota, Luke Mason, has left the team, there's an open spot which is been Machiels' goal for a long time. No he has a chance, he hopes for that open seat to make his long wanted comeback in F1. Machiels doesn't know what season 6 will bring for him though, seeing that Toyota doesn't do, uhm, well, in season 5. But Machiels hopes for a strong communication in the team. "Well, it's the most important thing, to communicate, to share setups". Should Toyota decide not to choose Toyota, Machiels would still want to go to one of the other teams which have open spots for the next season.

Season 6 Line Up:

Renault:
Bruno Domingues
Herman Chang

McLaren:
Duncan Hutchison
Blake Haswell*

Ferrari:
Jarrett Allman
Jef Beyens

*Note: Blake Haswell takes the McLaren seat due to Mason already confirming himself to BMW, next time I recommend taking due care in selecting a team.

Davidson Confirmed For Honda

Lee Davidson has confirmed he will be rejoining Honda, the team who first gave him his big break back in Season 1. Speaking during the Thursday press conference, Davidson had this to say:

"Of course it's a shame things didn't work out with Ferrari, the language barrier is just too great and things just couldn't continue like this. I'd like to thank them for their effort so far this season and I will be sure I will drive at the maxinum of my ability."

A reporter then asked about his conversations with Nick Fry in Canada;

"Nick and I are very good friends after our 3 seasons together, I found out I managed to stop the contract a year in at Ferrari on the Thursday at Canada, so during the weekend I started to talk to a number of team bosses about next season, Nick included. I think it's safe to say I'll be returning to Honda next season to partner Brad Horton. I'm feeling confident about the season, the team and team mate but for now, I'm just focussing on getting Ferrari back to the top."

Red Bull sign their drivers...

Red Bull Racing have confirmed their driver line-up for Season 6: current Super Aguri team mates Jamez Shepherd and Jessica Weiland.

Red Bulls sporting director Christian Horner said: "Jessica is extremely fit, has very good race pace, rarely makes a mistake and brings us a very technically competent, polished and consistant package. Jamez is also very competetive, a super-quick driver, sometimes a little bit raw and wild in his style, but he's a proven podium finisher."

Shepherd said of his appointment: "My aim has always been to have a career in in F1. Both Jessica and I have the hopes of a nation behind us so we have no choice no but to succeed."

The two drivers will continue there current roles at Super Aguri until the end of the season, as Jessica stated: "We feel very comfortable here at Aguri, we both work well together and it shows in our results. But at the same time we are very excited to have a chance with Red Bull, they're a proven race winner (Butler, Malaysia) with a lot of potential to become very competetive throught the season."

Jessica, still only 14, not yet old enough to hold a standard drivers licence, is a great prospect for F1, she has shown a very competetive gritty edge against the leading drivers, and isn't scared to get rough. With youth on her side she has a long career in front of her. Could this be the start of a career leading to F1's first female World Champion?

[Recent interview with F1 magazine]

You wont get much, however, if you chat to Jamez. He'll roll up in his white Super Aguri jacket, all right, and he'll talk about MotoGP or rallying or soccer or even Surfers Paradise - his holiday spot over this past winter: what he won't do is behave like the other guys. He won't talk about F1 in any sort of detail. He doesn't want to. He doesn't need to. What he wants to do - you are reminded for the hundredth time since you first saw him drive (Bahrain, Pole Position) - is conduct an F1 car very quickly and very well. End of story.

He's now out of the Super Aguri SA05-01, however, and appears to be open to questions. The journos, mainly Australians, crowd around him.

"But Jamez - what about Jessica? Are you worried about her? Are you expecting a season long battle?"

He displays a flicker of emotion.

"Why do you guys always talk about a battle?" he asks, keeping the tone cool but emphasising his point with a quick stare. "There are plenty of drivers I need to beat, Jessica is only one of them. It's always the same. That's what racing is all about."

Simple. Logical. And very much a statement in itself. In other words, no more stupid questions, please.

Is this a new Jamez Shepherd, cooler, calmer... more ready?

Haha. I qualified third at Melbourne in a public F1 2002. In an Arrows. Obtained perfect setup during warmup, race is in just under a hour.

edit: Oh yeah, how's this for consistent (in the 02 F1):
Prac: 3rd
Qual: 3rd
Warmup: 3rd

Who wants to put bets on my race position? :dopey:

edit 2: 1st! Woo!

edit 3: And fastest lap, and most laps led :D

Haswell must die!!

Oh yes! :D

Haswell Sneaks McLaren Seat from Mason

McLaren have today confirmed that they have signed a world champion driver for next season. Blake Haswell managed to get the seat during last minute negotiations, which saw Mason forced to take up his BMW option for the season ahead.

McLaren boss, Ron Dennis, said “Everything seemed to be sorted with Mason, we were moments away from putting pen-to-paper. However, when a championship winning driver like Haswell comes along, you have to rethink your objectives – and we have decided that we’re going out to win it next season.

“Of course it’s a risk” he said, when asked about Haswell’s time away from the F1 circus. “We’re confident he’ll deliver the goods, though.”

Haswell was not available to comment. He is believed to be waving his McLaren contract in-front of Davidson’s face.

Super-Compact Montreal (Season 5) Race Report in 50 Words (not counting these):

Go, Domingues stalls, Toyota goes splat. Shock. LeSabre’s series of unfortunate events. Syme wrecks. Many harmless errors. Driver mistakes pitting. Aguri’s pitcrew still sucks. Shepherd slow after 54, lost points. Davidson wins - comeback? - Dubois 2nd at home, Beyens, Domingues, Allman, Horton, Whitcomb, Hutchinson. Renault happy, RB/Midland/Toyota suck. End.

Wire: Kawasie to return for Season 6

In a prerace conference today at Indianapolis, Season 3 champion Yuuji Kawasie has announced his desire to return to competitive racing after a one-season break.

Kawasie is currently undergoing negotiations with many different teams in order to find one that is suitable for next year. He has expressed a desire to move to a "less craptacular team than Midland" (despite Midland's success in Season 4), but has not decided on a team yet. In an interview he stated that he "was more interested in a committed and successful teammate" than a really fast team. More news as it's revealed.

These are the things I don't understand at Batracer, how are you so fast in such a slow car?

Frustrating day today.

First I go to the GTP F1 race and my car falls out beneath me, and then I check my V8 game. It's Sandown, one of the frikkin' huge races. I've been doing good all race long, top 5-ish, laughing when Bee's entire team retires on lap 110 (not that you're paying attention to that game, anyway :P), and then...

Lap 161 of 161
Kawasie (P3) makes a driver error at turn 2. Kawasie is out of the race!
The first driver to cross the finish line at Sandown is Carpenter!
🤬 :banghead: :ouch: :grumpy:

:guilty: (yes, I'm having too much fun with those today)

And I'm running behind race-wise again, so time for another 75-Word Wrap-Up: Indy Edition.

Mayhem start - Beyens, Mason, Charkaoui taken out. SC. Weiland wrecking crew. Davidson slow past 18 - Ferrari sweats. 28 - irrelevant Midland slow. Slightly relevant Midland breaks. Shock. Slow Aguri pits continue. Tranny ends Shepherd’s day - 2nd DNF for Aguri all year. Lap 59 - Davidson splat. Comeback who? After, nothing. Domingues walks away with 10 by mile, Dubois, Whitcomb, Chang, Horton, Weiland, Allman, Hutchinson. RB vaguely better than Midland/Toyota in nonsuck competition.

Bram Machiels looking forward to season 6 even more:

Toyota's new driver, Bram Machiels, is looking forward to season 6 more then ever before. In a private F1 race, Machiels managed to finish a race in 4th.

The practice session didn't ran well as he only could test during 5 laps but amazingly enough, he qualified 7th, bringing him already into the points. In the warm-up session, the Toyota team and Machiels were dedicated to test further and to setup the car almost perfectly for the race.

As Machiels starts from 7th, he takes, as always, a very aggressive start, bringing him up in 5th. But would Toyota last? Yeah they did! During the race, Machiels' overall pace is very high, he drives a 5th overall fastest lap during the race and he even manages to work himself through the field in 2th. At this moment, it was a battle between Renault and Toyota. The 1st place Renault was already 14 seconds ahead but now Machiels had enough room, he somehow managed to even improve his laptimes more. Machiels destroys the gap to 8 seconds, but he must pit. He comes out in fourth but surprisingly, all the other cars only did 1 pitstop and therefor, Machiels finishes the race in a nice 4th place. BY calculations, it appeared after the race that Machiels had setup his Toyota to 94.50%.

"I'm very happy with this result, my start was magnificent. I thought those 2 drivers would take me back, but when I realised I was so much faster then the Ferrari in fourth, I just gave everything. I'm telling you, if we would be at 1 stop, I would definitly be sure of that second place, maybe even a battle at the last laps with Renault would be possible".

Still at Toyota?

First time I've retired at Indy in my 5 seasons. :grumpy:

Still second atleast.

Mr.Haswell
Haswell was not available to comment. He is believed to be waving his McLaren contract in-front of Davidson’s face.

Davidson: "Haswell has To Be Lucky To Win!"

Lee Davidson kick started his rivalry with Blake Haswell today in an interview with british newspaper, The Independant. SPeaking about next season Lee was quoted as saying "Blake has to have luck on his side if he is going to suceed next season, a year out can do alot of harm, just look at Jaques Villeneurve. Blake will probably go odwn the same route."

He went on to say that Ferrari favour Allman despite Davidson being second in the championship, "Yeah I've noticed recently, especially in America, that Ferrari baby-fed Allman infront of his home crowd. It was obvious they are using him as a marketing ploy to get more sales in America, I just hope he sees the light and gets out of there quick."

Neither Blake Haswell or Jarrett Allman have responded to the statements.

Allman: "Davidson is just selfish."

AP- Ferrari Formula 1 driver Jarrett Allman was confronted earlier this week by Ferrari teammate Lee Davidson, saying he is being "baby-fed for publicity". Allman didn't take too lightly to this comment.

"I think that Lee is a bit jealous that he got the boot from Ferrari and I didn't. He's always been quite selfish throughout the season and was never really much a team player. He always spoke about him getting the podium, and never actually provided any wishes of luck towards me. Davidson is just selfish, and that pretty much sums him up. Ferrari booted him off because he is old material. He has no fans. Not to sound selfish, but my fanbase is much larger than his, which is good news for Ferrari. I think he just needs to suck up and take it like a man. I think he is expecting to be fed by a golden spoon, and when he didn't get that, he complained. I'm quite glad that I'll have Jef Beyens as my teammate next season. He will surely be a great teammate."

And with that, Allman left the conference. It looks like Allman has lit a fire under Davidson's behind. Could this cause troubles in the final races of the season? I guess we'll find out at Magny Cours.

Wire: Kawasie to Renault for Season 6?

Insider reports have created rumors that Renault is undergoing interviews with Season 3 champion Yuuji Kawasie about contracts for the upcoming Season 6 of Formula 1.

Kawasie has previously expressed interest in Renault, considering the fact that it has been a "very competitive team over the last few seasons" and that former teammate, Herman Chang, has signed with Renault for the next season. The two had worked together at BMW in Season 3 and nearly pulled off a Constructors' Championship, only finishing 2nd to Ferrari by 2 points.

However, current championship leader Bruno Domingues is still undergoing negotiations with Renault and has first priority for signing with his current team. It is unknown whether he plans to return for the next season, but with his performance so far this season, it is likely that he will be a hot prospect for Season 6.

For a team other than Renault, hopefully.

No Hard Feelings at McLaren

As McLaren confirm Duncan as teammate to Haswell for season 6, questions have been raised about the seat stealing debacle that happened as season 2 came to a close.

Haswell was trying to buy out Duncan’s Renault seat, and Duncan went public – stirring a lot of controversy at the time.

When asked about it earlier this week, Haswell said “We’ve talked it over recently, and there are no hard feelings. We’re professionals and we just want to get on with the job for next season.”

Hutchinson has not made a comment at this time.

Race progress - Lap 64

ITV Comentary Team - James Allen & Martin Brundle

JA: It's lap 64 of the Indianapolis US GP, your race leader is Domingues with a massive 50 second lead over Dubois.

MB: Yes, he seems comfortable out there, I really cant see him losing this now.

JA: Sorry to interupt Martin, Loiuse Goodman has found Jamez Shepherd. Loiuse?

~

LG: Yes, I'm here with Jamez Shepherd of Super Aguri. - Jamez; what happened?

JS: We seemed to have a problem.

LG: Can you please varify that for us?

JS: It seemed to be transmission related, I lost 3rd gear.

LG: Another hole in the belt for a rather unlucky season for you, is it the car.

JS: I prefer not to comment on that, the team do their best as always. This is motor racing, these things happen.

LG: Ha, that's true. Thanks, Jamez.
