Well all my luck's coming early this season, but no doubt BATracer will throw up a string of crash-filled error-prone drives from me soon so im not resting on my laurels just yet...

whoa just tried the 79 F1 cars at Silverstone, very different in terms of grip, but from what i heard on the Williams the engine noise is cool.

All: I am sorry to say that I also have to pull out for a while, probably all season. For those of you that don't know, I am currently replacing Matt Keller at Toyota. But recently I've come to the cnclusion that with the time diference between Bram Michaels and myself, it is almost impossible to work together on a 100% setup.

So I have asked Bram to take the honours for the remaining races of the season.

If anyone else would prefer to take over then please contact Bram, he has been given the UN and PW via BATracer Team Chat.

Cheers, TAIPAN

Should GTP Make a Change From F1 2006 To A1GP?

Okay, I’m this as an interest check. Should we change carsets from F1 2006 to A1GP?

I think we should.

F1 2006 is a very uneven carset in terms of performance. I, for example, have a pretty big advantage over just about everyone because of the car I’m in, and with this new contracts system I could potentially be in this car for the next 3 seasons. I’d hate to be the guy stuck at Toyota for the next 3 and a half months!

Obviously, with A1, we’d get rid of these contracts and we’d just race. Pick your country on a first-come-first-served basis.

We could have up to 30 players in a season, which would reduce the problem that we’re starting to have a little bit of—too many players, not enough seats.

Players would register their interest before the season began, and a password would be sent to all players in a mass PM. Once registered players have signed up, we can either start the game then and there, or make the password public in the BATracer forum.

It would also get rid of the problem I refered to above: uneven car performance. Everyone would be on a completely level playing field, so there would be no Renault / Ferrari / BMW (:p) domination.

Bad team mates would be another thing of the past. Brad, for one, has always been complaining about being shafted with poor or inactive team mates!

Anyway: yes or no? Thoughts and stuff are welcome. Hate mail can go to Lee. :D

It's an option worth considering, I however do find A1GP a bit tedious at times.

But being able to have more players and a level playing field sounds worth a trial season perhaps.

I'm for it. 8 seasons of F1 and it's starting to become a bore.

The worst thing is this luck of the draw team selection. If you're not in the top 2 teams, statistically you'll find it hard to win the championship. If you're in the bottom 2 teams, you'll hardly get a point. It's an online game, we're not playing for anything, everyone should be given an even chance to win.

Also, if you don't feel like continuing. You'd only really be affecting yourself, rather then becoming a burden on your teammate. Having to rely on someone you never even met a million miles away to make a competitive car doesn't always work. Time Zones are often confusing between people and personally it gives me the ****s.

if it makes for more competivite racing and closer results, then i'm for it! 👍

just one thing though: if we do switch, i call england for first A1GP season :D

Back to normal performance then in Quali *sigh*

I love this graph too

:scared:

* I call Team UK :p

Blake just wants A1 because he's stopped sucking at it after the A1 Cup :P

Actually, trying some different series doesn't sound like too bad of an idea. Although the team differences aren't as bad as they sound (we've had Midlands and Williams in it before...), it would be interesting to run without teammates (time zone issues, awol issues, etc.).

The only thing that bugs me about A1 is that the races are kind of on the shorter side, but there's more of them, so it's more of a personal quirk. I say give it a shot.

Even though we were only about 3 hours apart, you never got on BATracer until I logged off for the day :|

I'd say 👍 to A1GP.

I'm probably going to take a break at the end of S8, because next year is my last year of (high) school, and I'll have projects etc to do. (note: I haven't decided yet)

Nice way to finalise the end of my career, Blake. :grumpy:

Nah well I don't really care, I wont be racing next season, I'm concentrating on V8's more than anything these days.

EDIT - Guess I best fight for the F1 Side of the debate:

With the current carset with have something that A1GP just can't offer, excitement. In the current F1 Series, we have never had one team dominate for four or five seasons, only 2 teams have won the season twice or more, Ferrari and Renault. There has never been a season where the title was decided with 4 races still to go and we have onyl ever had one double champ, Blake.

Now I can see a vast area of growth for the series if we stick with F1, Contracts for example have been introduced this season, meaning not only is it a team game but we also have to look out for ourselves in order to keep a contract. When Blake said "he potentially has 3 Seasons with Renault" one word sticks out from that for me, Potentially. He could just as easially loose his seat at the endo f the year thanks to poor performances. It's the same when he mentioned the Toyota's, yes they have been doing poor lately, but aslong as they keep their performances on the up in a poor car, they could easially grab a higher placed car next season. Whilst it's true the car's performances can be a major factor at times, the results have been varied amongst all teams, Super Aguri have been beating Renault at times, other times Ferrari and Williams have battled it our for the title.

With A1GP, you gets whats on the tin, 30 drivers in 1 car teams, yes it's down to driver ability alot more but every season is going to be the same. It's a short-term solution to a long-term problem. There is no depth with that car set and I for one am dissapointed to see it so popular. So what if you have a AWOL team mate? It makes your results look much more accomplished, right?

Not likely. :sly:

hmmmm F1 -> A1GP seems interesting but its still single seaters. lol If you want a major departure from F1 you go with the tintops carsets. I dont mind either way, I was pondering sitting out of Season 8 because I think F1 05/06 is becoming a bit stale..... same with the other carsets really.

It would be good if a new carset was released and regardless of what it is we all go for that. It would be cool if say MotoGP got released and we use that as the next GTP game with everyone going into it with no experience.

But hey I don't mind either way, I'm a former champion (had to get that in) so my motivations are different now.

Ok me and Blake have came up with a comprimise thanks to the great invention known as MSN:

Ok, so in real life, F1 takes place during Spring/Summer/Autumn whilst A1GP takes place in Autumn/Winter/Spring, we could possibly use this to get the best out of both the F1 and A1 car sets. What we (I) have came up iwth is possibly alternating seasons going A1 S1, F1 S9, A1 S2, F1 S10 etc etc. This would mean both car sets are used whilst still maintaining the work put into the F1 and the new breath of fresh air, A1.

Now, Blake has offered to sort out the A1 season, me (And Ash I'm sure is up for it) could sort out the F1 side of things, possibly introducing Team Principles, a transfer system and looking further into the contract system. A1 can offer a bite on the side, a more relaxed, championship whilst ideas for F1 are put to plan.

What do you guys think?

will BTCC work?
because I still like the idea of having a teammate, single player just isn't as fun for me.

that sounds like a good idea, with alternating games.
Nevertheless, I'll race one more season before I take a break :P

I can help with sorting out also Lee, you know I'm always up for helping.

I personally think that A1GP is the way to go because you don't have the issues of a team mate not showing for whatever reason... or not having an even amount of players to fill teams for the next season.

The game is perfectly ballanced with everyone in even spec cars, with an even oportunity to score points.

A1GP also has so many diferent teams, far more seats than an F1 season, so we can accomidate for players that miss out every season due to a full house in the F1 teams.

Oh my gosh. I just won my first public championship. With 3 races still remaining. In a Proton.

BTCC Touring, 42 point lead (159 pt), Brands Hatch Indy Sprint. Q4, drizzle. Lap 1, Jef (117 pt) and Will (113 pt) crash out (ironically, they crashed into each other). Lap 2, I set fastest lap. Finish second for 12 pts + 1 bonus pt.

Lead is 55 pts over Jef. Only 54 points available (15 pt + 3 bp, x 3).

:D

(2 wins, 12 podiums, 3 poles, 2 fastest laps, with three races still to go).

In teams: Kiwi Racing (my team) 250 pt, Frontier Racing (Will's team) 207 pt, VXRacing (Jef and Dunc's team) 181 pt.

GTPlanet dominance :D Me 1st, Jef 2nd, Will 3rd, Dunc 10th (and Steven LeSabre 7th).

Me happy.
