Few quick thoughts after 2 hours of playing time on PS3:

- graphics overall are worse than bc2, but there are some beautiful lighting features , especially inside the metro station (it was the same with bc2 beta, full game was much better than beta in graphics department)

- you kill/die in instant second (far too fast for my liking, hopefully it'll be balanced soon)

- you can get stuck inside the walls, it happens usually while performing melee kill

- I don't get how "spotting feature" works , maybe it is just buggy

- maybe I have wrong settings but sound is much worse than bc2

- very floaty feel of walking , aiming (I think weapons should feel more heavy)

- not much destruction (besides 3 balconies and few pillars inside metro station)

- I'm still confused with loadouts and whole unlock system (big difference from bc2, plus it seems you can't choose US weapons as your loadout while being Russian and vice versa )

- you score a lot of points every second for every action

- battlelog is a very nice feature, at least from browser level, I hope everything is similarly available "inside the game" (remember to sign up @battlelog site before you enter battlefield)

- the game mechanics (minus kill streaks) feel much more like MOH than BC2.

Overall , even though as you can read I'm quite critical about this beta at the moment, I think it has loads of potential of being a great FPS game. Besides I don't think choosing this map was a good idea for showcasing battlefield 3 in its full glory.

mr_geez you must either have defect eyes or just a very bad graphics card.

BC2 can´t hold a candle to the graphics on BF3, i run max on everything and it blows every other game away that i´ve played. Comparing it to BC2 is insane.

I would love to start up a clan with some guys (PC).

This game is so good when you get your team to work together and really cover each others backs, often you get killed from behind of someone who ran on the outside of the map and back around.

more or less my thoughts so far.

+1

Look for the origin thread. I'm in for a squad/ platoon

I just bought BC2 a few days ago to get me ready for the BF3 beta, and I actually thought it looked pretty good. I was really surprised after reading about how everyone thought the graphics were bad, but to me the pc version looked great. I would say BF3 looks better, but not by leaps and bounds. I also actually think the sound is better in BC2. Now It's really hard to compare metro to the maps of BC2 sound wise, there's just so much more going on with all the vehicles and explosions, but so far BC2 has the upper hand in the audio department with me. It just seemed to sound more dynamic, and alive. Then again there is alot more going on, on the older maps.

It does look better then BC2, but to say it blows every other game away is an awfuly bold statement. Have you played witcher 2. That is probably the best looking game I have ever played. Graphics wise I think it beats out the new BF3, and really all other games made. If you really want to see your pc at it's finest give it a try.

Now, if you compare BF3 to any console game, I think you have them beat, because even it looks pretty bad on the xbox.

Maybe I do have defect eyes. I think I'll go to ophthalmologist to check. I hope the examination will help me in reading comprehension of message boards (especially first paragraph of given post) and at last I'll be able to spot a slot in my ps3 for enhanced graphics card.

Love the game - hate the map.

Lots of buggy locations, too. Got stuck under grenade craters, under hills, and insude a locker! They should release Caspian Border...

Same, and when I did get stuck I just ended up getting killed. I'm sick of all the COD p:censored:s running all over the place at the minute too, thankfully we've got MW3 not long after release to usher them out.
Having some pretty bad graphic issues as well (I know its a beta) and I seem to get killed really easily from ridiculous distances by people who are just spraying.

Still great apart from that. 👍

To be honest I've had a real problem picking out the opposition players in amongst everything. Granted I'm not used to many FPS especially of this generation but I found it irritating at first. I am on an SDTV though.:yuck:

On the bugs thing, at the first stage of the map, often you can just lay prone (or whatever it is) and the 'floor' of the map will become see-through, you can see across huge distances and pick out enemies' legs from a long way away.

Also does anyone else get a bunch of green/purple flashes all the time? It's really weird. PS3 version.

I've had that problem as well, my teammates are often shown as the enemy. I'm using a HDTV.

Yep and sometimes the colours don't go back to normal after i've paused it. :/

Yeah. Current-gen games seem almost impossible to play on an SDTV, let alone a small one.

I'm going to try and download the beta to my PS3 tomorrow...

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one. :dunce:

Depends, some of the older games from this gen like Fallout seem fine to me but not a fast paced 2011 FPS. :sly:

Basically I had the choice of an HDTV or a PS3, figured I'd rather have more content than less content but nicer looking.

Anyway - I'm enjoying BF3 overall. It would've been cool if they'd thrown in the kitchen sink of the jets, etc, but you can't have everything. The matches where you have people who want to play it 'properly', actually attacking and defending, rather than just an all out deathmatch, are the best.

The ones where I get killed (this tends to be most of them) a lot are the worst. :ouch:

It´s really impossible for BC2 to sound better then BF3.

It´s the same guys that have done it but this time they have taken it one step further in recording sounds to produce the most accurate sounds ever.

Same with graphics (on PC atleast)
DX10 will never be able to hang with DX11 and Tessellation.

Turn up the game to max and you will see the immense difference in clarity compared to BC2, textures is another thing that is insane.

I've got it running ultra on everything at around 40-50 fps. I probably shouldn't have mentioned the sound, because like I said it's hard to compare because in metro there just isn't much going on as far as sound. Last night I got a little time in the house alone and was able to actully turn my system up to -20. The game does look great, but I think BC2 isn't as far behind as you made it out to be.

I played BC2 the night before I tried out BF3, and in comparison of the two BF3 didn't blow me away. Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but I wouldn't say it blows away every other game ever made. Like I said, Witcher 2 looks at least as good and in my opinion better. I imagine though that once we get out of this metro level, and into some more diverse maps, the game will look and sound even better. I really can't stand this map in all honesty and maybe that's clouding my judgement of how great of a game it is.

One thing I have noticed about the sound is that BC2, seemed to make me feel the guns being fired more. That would be an easy fix if I just turned up my sub a tad more, but then I'm kind of afraid that I'll forget to turn it down after I'm done playing and another game or content that hits down in the 20 hz or lower level will be getting to much of a boost and cause some damage. I have my system setup as close to reference level as I can get it, and I have the sub with an almost perfect house curve added to it, thanks to good placement and an SMS-1 EQ. I really don't want a game making me have to adjust my system to accomidate it. I would rather the game or movie set the audio to reference levels, then I can experience it how it was meant to be easily, without worries of damaging my audio system.

Compared to most shooters though BF3 does sound amazing. I think socom confrontation is still my favorite sounding shooter, but BF3 and BC2 both sound really good. I shouldn't have given an opinion though on BF3s sound until the larger maps with vehicles can be played.

WHAT?! I was just running and died running over a dirt hill before you enter the metro, and died, and it said I was killed by no one, I guess I found a death barrier in Battlefield 3?

We might have, same thing happened to me two.days ago.

Any feedback on the performance?

I'm suspicious as to everyone stating you need a hardcore rig to play this since this game will also come out on the consoles and we all know you don't need much these days to out-do a console graphics-wise.

Well mine is a pretty decent rig, my only worry was my gfx card(gtx480) but on the beta im running maxxed at 50-60fps. On console someone here that played both the pc and console said the console is not as good looking, which makes sense.

I've downloaded the beta, haven't played yet. Anyone on PS3 looking to play send me a friend request or something and let me know you want to play.

Encountered another glitch, got killed, showed my killer, it was a dead body with a moving pistol flying around it as if the guy was invisible and with his body below him O.o

As far as not needing mush out of consoles compared to the PC version, there really is no comparison. The PC version looks much better. It's like comparing ps2 to ps3 games. I was really surprised how much better it looks.

One really weird thing is that with my setup, I gain little if any performance boost if I go from ultra settings with everything maxed out, down to the lowest settings. I run between 40-50fps with a drop into the high 30s every once in awhile, and a spike into the 60s.
I have an i7-950 and gtx 570.
On the battlelog forums(or whatever it's called) I kind of get the impression that the nvidia cards seem to be doing better then the ATI counterparts. It also seems that some people who really didn't think they would be able to run the game, are able to play it.

I seem to remember that people running SLI and eyefinity think they are not really getting much help from the other card. It is a BETA though so I'm sure it will only get better after the full release.

It's basically an alpha since it takes about 2 months to get it certified for release. So most of these bugs have probably been fixed. At least I hope they've been fixed 👍

You're getting shot by ammunition that is as big as your thumb. Of course you die quickly.

Yea but it's not like BC2 where I actually have a chance to do something before I die, and the scope shine thing is weird, it seems a little too strong now

Cowboys965
I get that, but it feels like hardcore health, I can't even see the guy shooting at me before I die

One of the lead designers tweeted that they know damage is off and it's been fixed for retail. This version still hasn't been balanced yet.

This may be, but my experience in battlefield is that you should ALWAYS play the game as if you were playing hardcore mode. Being much more precise and choosing when to move is much more important in these games. Situational awareness will go a long way to keeping you alive.
