-The only positive thing out of AK except for the vehicles was the pretty impressive TDM maps wich is ironic.

Just bought the PC version recently and wow what a difference compared to PS3. Graphics are so much better and the game plays so much smoother. Also I had no idea there was the larger versions of Conquest with more objectives and different vehicles. I'm using a PS3 controller, even though it's crap for aiming and causes me to die in situations where I shouldn't but using the keyboard feels weird after playing on ps3 for so long.

Anyway I have an issue with the game crashing. It crashes to the desktop, everything is frozen but I am able to start the task manager and kill it. It usually happens only after playing for an hour or so but it started doing it more frequently so I upped my ram to 8 gigs from 4 gigs and it was sweet for about 2 hours before freezing again.

I noticed that the task manager said there was just 500mb "Free" when it crashed. And this is with 4gig more than before so there would have been nothing "free" beforehand. Should I try clearing the cache? Or is it not ram related.

CPU - AMD 4x 3.6ghz
GPU - Nvidia GTX550ti (running lower settings than they reccomend for BF3)
8 gig ram

My power supply is quite low, 450 watts could that cause the issue?
 
You should make the switch to keyboard and mouse for everything but flying and possibly only jet flying at that. You are putting yourself at a big disadvantage not using the mouse to aim. While flying though, the thumbsticks on a PS3 controller should allow for better inputs; mouse and keyboard just does not work for me when flying a jet. I have not completely given up on ever being able to effectively fly jets, but I tend to ignore getting in one. Typically, if I get into a jet, then I am wasting an asset for my team. My abilities as a player are better utilized on the ground.

The switch from controller to keyboard and mouse can be done. I decided to make the switch to PC from PS3 with Battlefield 3 after years upon years of console play. I did play the Campaign through first before jumping into Multiplayer and I also played Co-op quite a bit. Aiming with a mouse will come to you pretty easily. There will occasionally, actually quite often, be some growing pains with being slow to put your sights on target because everyone else has the same advantages using a mouse. More play time will improve your ability to put sights on targets quickly. At times, controlling your character with a keyboard will be very frustrating because your fingers will not hit the keys you want them to. However, with play time, that will also become much more intuitive, you will not have near as many issues, and you may even feel confident in your ability to make your guy move around the map with a keyboard.
 
You could have RAM issues, download and run Memtest, that will let you know if the memory is at fault.

What processes are using all the memory? There is no way BF3 takes up over 6 GB of RAM, assuming your OS and background processes are maxing out at 2 GB, and that's typically well over average memory usage for the OS and utilities.

What are your GPU temps, usage, and clocks (are you overclocked?) Does any error appear? Although this seems like an app hang error in which the program begins an endless loop, it can be caused by a number of things.

1- Validate the install files to ensure none have been corrupted during download and install (right click on bf3 in origin library) ; if so it will fix the errors after which you should test.

2- Download, install, and run Driver sweeper to remove drivers for your GPU. Then, install the latest available driver for your card. Test.

3-(Actually do this first haha) There is a file that sometimes gets created after crashes in your main bf3 folder (origin games/bf3) called log.log; open it with a text editor and paste its contents here so I can help you further.

There are some other alternatives but this will narrow it down.

On another note, that color editing tool I posted several posts back is on DICE's hit list; the md5 tool can be identified by PunkBuster and most servers are instituting kicks, some even bans. That is use at your own risk; I have personally quit using it.

It edits graphic options only (contrast, filter), is currently not detected by PB, most server ban list supported PB enabled servers are not planning on enforcing against it, and the Realmware developers seem pretty convinced it will not be bannable. The ram says that it has 3.5gig cached, 4.5 available and less than 1 gig free. I tested the ram and no errors, just did a clean install of the GPU driver. GPU Temps sitting around 60 degrees, usage fluctuates around 70% so the gpu is fine. I have not fiddled with the clocks so I'm assuming they are stock?

Just played a few sessions in a 64 player server with no freezing so fingers crossed it's ok.

There was no file called log.log;, and I don't want to do the repair install as the download size is 16gig. I installed the game from disc and downloaded the updates.

There is nothing better than joining a server, spawning five or six times, and dying near instantly each spawn. :rolleyes:

It doesn't download the whole game; it checks your files against their database and looks for any corruption, if it finds anything then it only replaces the files that needs to be.

If it doesn't crash then your driver was the problem.

Ok just did that and it said my install was fine.

Unfortunately it is still crashing. Might be just a coincidence but the last few times have been just after a tank shoots it's main gun.

Every time it just crashes to desktop and I am able to start the task manager and end the process.

Is my hardware too weak or is this some kind of failure...

Edit: It's only freezing when I'm driving a tank, and seems to be better when there are less people in the server. This must be a CPU issue? It's an AMD FX-4100 3.6ghz quad core.

This is exactly why I don't have a gaming rig. Roll on the next gen for better graphics etc and some bright spark who can combine the benefits of both mouse AND controller.
 
Well i just figured out what setting would work to use this

On the ps3 for snipping. It was so hard to snipe because of my controller walks forward so the bi-pod was pretty much not a option. So i am happy
 

Battlefield 3: Aftermath features all multiplayer game modes from the base game, plus the all-new Scavenger mode. In Scavenger mode, lost soldiers start equipped with only a knife, one grenade, and sidearm and must search the environment for more powerful weapons to increase their chance at surviving and eventually winning.

Well, re-install the game and DX11.

Does any error message come up at all? Does it minimize to desktop, or stop responding then crash to desktop?

It might be looking for a file that is corrupt or missing and causes it to crash.

Download and install a crash report viewer (there are plenty different ones out there).

It could potentially be a CPU issue, but I highly doubt it. If you want to test your stability you can download Prime95, Intel Burn test, etc. There are tools for your GPU as well; which you can download and run also (Furmark).

It does not sound hardware related just yet, but if you happen to know someone who has a GPU you can borrow to test for crashes then that will at least rule out your graphics card.

Test your CPU, GPU stability with the programs I mentioned, we install a crash report viewer, reinstall the game and DX11, if that doesn't come up with anything then we can move on to more drastic measures lol.

Next gen consoles will not be at the level PC's were at a year or more ago. I also play BF3 on three screens at a higher refresh rate and much higher detail than a console. That's why I have a gaming rig. Heaven forbid you have to learn something about how a computer works to use one.

I have a bicycle because I don't want to learn to drive.

Why? Considering you save money on the all DLC alone by purchasing Premium, and you get numerous other stuff, despite all the complaining it is well worth it. And new weapons do not dictate how good a DLC will be, so I'm not sure why you're complaining about that.

To remove these weapons well after numerous people have bought Premium is a questionable thing to do as for many people (myself included) the added weapons were very enjoyable in both B2K and CQ. Thus they were a big factor in buying premium.

Now can you see why he is complaining?
 
I think it's easy to understand the complaint, I can't say I have the same one though. I never recall being promised weapons in every pack, or a specific number of weapons we now aren't getting, but ultimately I didn't buy in for weapons I bought in for the maps and anything else was a bonus (which is pretty much what we were actually promised).

No, because, as Dragonistic has pointed out, they never promised any new weapons for this DLC pack, so there is nothing really to complain about on that front. The main thing you're paying for are the maps - that has been the basis of every expansion in this game, and they've always come with a small selection of new features, such as new modes or vehicles or weapons, and it's the same story here. It may not seem like much new content, but it's only just been properly announced, so no point passing such negative judgement until you've actually played the DLC, otherwise it just seems trivial. EA haven't stuck to their word on other parts of Premium (which is very irritating), but the one thing they have been truthful about is the expansion packs, they are what makes Premium worth the money.

Nah no error message comes up, it just freezes for a split second and then minimises to desktop and then I can't do anything except start the task manager.

Ok I will try re install DX11, and get a crash report viewer.

And yea I agree about the next gen consoles. I booted up the PS3 version of BF3 last night to see how much different it looks and oh my god I was actually laughing. It is like comparing a ps2 game with a ps3 game. It's just a shame that most of the sales for developers are in the console games so the PC versions don't get as much attention.
