I just played three games before getting kicked off EA Online, apparently something just glitched out for a second because I can see my Battlelog now. I started out badly on my first game, but the last two were both very good. The second game the team I was playing on won and I went 8-1; my one death came after my eight kills and I posted the fourth highest score in the game. The last game was another win; I went 9-3, destroyed one MCOM, and posted the fourth highest score in the game. Other than the first game, that was a lot of fun. I did some killing, some healing, and capping/destroying objectives.
 
Ok, Assault is a bit better - as does having some freakin scopes! It does feel like those who have unlocked heaps have a much bigger advantage over the noobs then BC2. Still, had some good games, despite hopeless teams.
 
Can someone explain the whole purpose of the SOFLAM and what it does? Its my next closest item, all i got was that it uses lasers to designate targets but designate targets for what?

I don't know exactly what it does. But i'm going to take an educated guess.

I'm guessing it works like the spotting scope from Bad Company 2 and "marks" the targets that it sights automatically. This will assist you and your fellow teammates.

It "paints" enemies so that the orange marker shows up on top of them when you are walking around and it helps anyone with a javelin to lock on to enemy vehicles. Just YouTube javelin and SOFLAM gameplay and you'll find some pretty awesome vehicle destroys. It's also the only way for a javelin to lock on to any enemy aircraft.

What I hate is defending rush. They should call it Camp or Border Patrol. Make Rush have MCOMS for both teams.

Oh I love defense in rush. It's the best opportunity to use claymores and anti tank mines :)

Soflam is a tri pod gadget that you must set up much like the mortar. You then point it at vehicles (air or land) to spot them. Then anybody using a javelin or missles in helicopters (and I think even tanks) can then lock on to your spot and fire away at a much higher damage than without the spot.

You can also leave the soflam set up on a tripod and it will automatically spot vehicles in its sight line but it won't move around. The huge downside is that when you point it at a vehicle that is facing you it shines bright red.

I really miss the AT-4 though....:guilty:
Shootin rockets at tanks, or especially choppers, is pretty lame now.


Also, WHEN WILL DICE FIX DOES DAMN BUGS ON THE CONSOLES?

I really can't play the game right like this. Sound is dissapearing constandly, the mics nearly never work and if they, the sound quality is crappy.
And about matchmaking.....I don't even start.

DICE STILL HAS ALOT WORK TO DO! :irked::mad:

Glad I'm not the only one. I was up against level 31 guys (I'm 2) - they were cleaning up with 30+ kills and 10000+ points a round :rolleyes:

It's different to spotting in that infantry doesn't benefit from targets being lased, most vehicles have guided weapons that lock on to lased targets and engineers with javelins can lock on, too, but lased targets aren't 'spotted' for infantry. Also the SOFLAM is quite rarely useful, it really depends on your team using something that requires a lock on and they're often quite high level unlocks anyway. The Recon is far more useful to the team if they use an MAV, in my opinion, but there is a little secret to do with equipment...

Basically, if you place a piece of equipment, die and then change to a different gadget before you respawn, the equipment you dropped will remain in place until it's destroyed. That way, a Recon player can place a T-UGS, die, place a SOFLAM, die and then use an MAV. I think the same goes for Support and claymores but I think AT mines never disappear until they're triggered or destroyed. I can't remember any other deployables off the top of my head, either.

Why isn't there a look back view in a jet, like in BF2? I know you can look around your cockpit but that still doesn't allow me to see the level 40 stuck on my backside with his missiles and what not. Was it to keep it more realistic or did they simply forget to add it in? If it's the former, I don't see how a camera view following 50ft behind the jet is realistic either.

So it really is quite pointless then? I play engineer and assault almost exclusively at the moment and Im still nowhere near unlocking the Javelin, though I am only level 17. I wonder though, you can still lock on to a target with a Javelin by yourself, so what really is the point? But like you say, I guess there are higher level users who can utilize it in the vehicles, but I'm still a long way from that too.

I noticed this today, when I was on Seine Crossing CQ, Squad spawned into the tank and got blown up by an AT Mine, then ran into the base at A and got killed by a claymore, both belonging to the same people. I didn't think about the Recon kit though, but thats probably because I still haven't got the T-UGS. Even still, the spawn beacon is really good for CQ and I imagine it would be for rush also. All you have to do is spawn into a spawn point as recon, place a spawn beacon in an obscure place that is still in the range of the base, then the next time you spawn, go back to your regular class, that way, if you die, and the base is gone, you just respawn and take it back straightaway, and your team mates can do it as well. I guess theoretically, one squad = four members = four spawn beacons = the most amount of flags that there is on a CQ map. :dopey: I wonder if you can place more than one spawn beacon? This would work so well. :sly:
 
1. SOFLAM is very useful for marking enemy Air & Ground Vehicles for friendly units with any kind of locking device missile launcher (Javelin*, Heat Seekers on jets or tanks). The best thing is that the spotted vehicle by SOFLAM is basically helpless since "IR flares" or "IR smoke" do not stop the missile from reaching its destination.

*- free tip ;) : with or without SOFLAM always remember to shoot Javelin up in the air (vertical position) to achieve best results, trust me , it makes Javelin one of the best weapons out there :)


2. Anti Tank mine is the only gadget that do not disappears after you respawn as an engineer or support. In fact you can put as many mines as you want, there is no limit after which they would disappear (ie infantry claymores, which you can only lay 2 at any given moment).


3. Recon's Spawn Beacon/Motion Sensor/SOFLAM stays on the battlefield as long as the person who put it doesn't respawn as a recon again. If you do respawn as a recon you have to put any of those devices one more time if you want your team/squad to use them. It is a very good tactic to start a round as a recon, leave spawn beacon and motion sensor in strategic place and then after inevitable death proceed to choose other classes for best efficiency. :)

If there's someone on your team using Javelins or guided vehicle weapons, which I have rarely encountered. As such, the MAV is more useful as a spotter, motion sensor (even if you're not using it any more) and as a weapon to disable other MAVs, EOD bots, other equipment and also to roadkill infantry.

This is true of the spawn beacon (unless you choose to respawn without one) but not of other equipment. As I said before, if you spawn with a T-UGS, place it, die, choose the SOFLAM or MAV and respawn, the T-UGS will remain but you'll also have the other equipment. So you could place a T-UGS, die, respawn with a SOFLAM, place that, die, respawn with the MAV and then you have all three, you just have to choose the position carefully as you can't move them. Then if you respawn as another class you can do the same again, so you could potentially have a T-UGS, SOFLAM, MAV, spawn beacon, claymore, AT mines and an EOD bot all on the map at once, I think. Works in theory, anyway, but I've never tried it.
 
Thanks... Btw i know that claymores disappear when you die, same with c4 actually, and having a MAV and an EOD bot i don't believe will work either since you have to control them

My belief is they went for more realism.

Or better yet, it forces people to help you out and spot it or maybe its so the air radar seems more useful.*shrug*

I forget now who wanted the F-22 in the game. Well looks the like the F-35B is back in the game. (maybe i'm late the part at knowing this)

But I watched this video and if you freeze it at 0:33 you catch a glimpse of it.

Who else thinks Wake Island is going to be epic?

The MAV will continue to work as a motion sensor if you swap equipment to keep it active, so it's basically just another T-UGS except you can hide it on top of buildings, Grand Bazaar is a great place for that sort of thing. And yeah, it's pointless with the EOD bot unless that's the equipment you end up using. I should have said I have no idea if this works with claymores or not, I haven't even unlocked them yet.
 
Whenever ive used the MAV ive had to spot using Q but the benefit is if its a large group spread out it usually spots them all at once. Also its ability to destroy enemy equipment is nice. Can anyone confirm/deny if it can destroy a mortar? That is considered support equipment right?

Yeah, to spot you still have to press Q or select but it also works the same as the T-UGS. You may have noticed a lot of the time when you get spot assists you also get motion sensor assists too, it's because of that. Motion sensor spots only show up on the mini map, though.

As for mortars, I've never even thought to try it. I don't think it would work because it would imply you've broken the mortar itself, but everything else the MAV can destroy can be replenished with an ammo box, but a broken mortar couldn't... I will try it when I get the chance, though! I love disabling other MAVs, it's like miniature dogfighting except 9 times out of 10 the other MAV doesn't even know it can take me out, not many people know about the disabling feature.
 
I just put in a few rounds. On the losing end, but some very nice battles. Finally got a hold of a helicopter and combat rafts. 👍 This game is great!

I just got a lucky break! I finally got flares for jets, i had 220 points from a tank that crossed my machine gun path and 12 spots, and 10 mins ago i dive-machine gunned at a tank and got 2 people kills and spots and some other stuff and got 350 points on one pass by in rush! then hit a telephone pole on my next run... As usual lol

I have tried so hard for flares it's unbelievable!

The MAV disables equipment by you getting the equipment in the middle of the screen and pressing the fire button after it's 'locked on' (it works like a SOFLAM except no one else can see it). Not much really happens, you just get some points for an equipment destroy, and that's it. I'm pretty sure most of the disables I've had have been flukes, like I've been sweeping an area and the lock on indicator and noise just happened to pop up, except for the MAVs I've disabled which have been because they've been spotted for me.

I found that once I unlocked flares, jets became way more fun. I've spent more time in jets than anything else by quite a margin but it's difficult to keep scoring points with one... I'm hoping the rocket pods I'm on the verge of unlocking will help me help the team more effectively than just shooting down choppers!
 
Oh wow.. I knew it disabled equipment but I didn't know how or what kind of equipment.. I thought like it temporarily disable tanks or something.. But thanks for the info.. Just when I thought I had everything figured out I learn something new haha..

I thought also that the T UGS doesn't really help with getting motion sensor assist, and the MAV is the one that does.. Which I thought was weird
