Beta installed, Origin's a piece of garbage, Battlelog is dumb etc.

Wonder how long I'll end up playing for, from what I've seen and heard so far I'm not expecting to keep it installed for long...

This may be, but my experience in battlefield is that you should ALWAYS play the game as if you were playing hardcore mode. Being much more precise and choosing when to move is much more important in these games. Situational awareness will go a long way to keeping you alive.

I get that, but I'm trying to take cover and get shot and killed instantly by that guy I don't see :p I don't even get a fighting chance.

So, uh... how long is it meant to take to join a server on PC? I've been sitting at "connecting" for a good five minutes now :irked:

Go an find another server, there are plenty out there :p.

If you are trying the matchmaking thing, I haven't been able to get it to work at all. I have to jsut keep trying servers. If it takes more then 10 seconds stop that one and try another one. I did read about a fix for the quick match thing, but I didn't want to go through the effort of trying it.

Got into a server, played for ten minutes, gave up in disgust.

Movement is significantly improved compared to BC2 but it's still nowhere near as smooth and responsive as, say, COD. Also ran pretty well on my system, which was a pleasant surprise (game was auto-set to high afaik). Apart from that though, I'm really not feeling it. I can usually tell if I'm going to enjoy something within the first 30 minutes of playing it - I couldn't even muster up the desire to keep playing the beta, so yeah. Not sure if I even want to hop back in and play a complete game.

Been playing for a couple hours now and I think I'll skip BF3.

Why?
-The endless "loading" screen when quiting a match
-People killing you while they're behind cover (as in shooting through a wall)
-BS controls (why can't I throw a grenade with R2? Why can't I knife with R3? Why can't I change stance with "O"?)
-Finding out the "heavy barrel" and "4x optics" I unlocked were ONLY for the Ak74s (or whatever in the hell the terrorist's AR is)
-Random rocks, etc. you get caught on or can't jump over (one piece of railing I tried to jump over wouldn't let me do so- as a result, my guy looked like a retard and gave the enemy a free kill)
-Knife system- worst I've seen from any game I've played (I know it's a beta, but when you can't even hit the guy infront of you, that's just horrible)
-The same BS spawn system (why? Not interested in being killed by that wandering soldier looking for cheap kills)

That aside, the graphics and sounds were superb. Loved the fire-rate selector. Loved the snipers. Love being able to prone in a BF game for once.

My opinion: Dice has been talking too much 🤬. The game wasn't the "OMGBBQ ORGASM THIS IS THE BEST SHEEEEET SINCE SLICED BREAD :scared:!!!!!!!" they said it would be (yes I know it's a beta- but we're under a month from release and the disks have already been made). It's seems as if the game is more of a graphics paradise than anything. Complicated controls, complicated loadout screen (why push "O"? I mean really...), iffy damage system (I swear I had times when I put enough lead in a guy to build another gun to shoot him with)...the game's ok, but I wouldn't pay $60 for this. Campaign? Maybe...but I'd rent the game first. Looks like it's back to ye ol' Call of Floopy- Survival mode FTW.

Dice/EA: get off your high-horse. Especially you EA- 🤬 you for not allowing T10 to put Porsches in Forza.

I downloaded and installed the Beta for the PS3. After playing for about an hour, I now need to download and install the Beta on my PC.

This is the first Battlefield game I have played and I enjoyed the one match I played. The Remington 870 MCS shotgun was quite a bit of fun in the subway area, except for the one time I missed my first shot and got knifed because I needed to pump the weapon. I really like selective fire being an option, as more often than not, I was much better off with single shots.

It seems like you don't like the things that aren't in the game from Call of Duty. :p Just sayin'.

Ghsnu your not going to buy the game based on a pre-alpha build bugs? They have to submit games more than two months before for approval...

Half the things you are mad with are confirmed to be due to this. The spawn system is fantastic and makes it different from COD, greatly helps to reduce spawn camping.

Atleast with Sharky he has a problem with origin and the way that's setup which is something that won't change due to EA which makes me feel for DICE a bit. Your problems are all more or less fixable or have been fixed and button mapping is most likely in the retail game and I'd be shocked if it wasn't.

Running the beta on my PC on ultra and its the only game to buckle my pc to its knees, or close to it anyway.

I run most stuff V-Syncd on max at 60fps but this one is jumping 20-40, it certainly looks impressive though.

The Caspian Border map looks incredible, its also a HUGGEEEE map. I got into one of the servers for a bit, I have a few good mates who managed to grab todays password for the servers. You basically have to spam your way into those games though because they get filled within 2 seconds of opening. I will play a little more over the next few days but im not exactly sold on the game.

I agree, seems like he is just hating. None of those things were true, and always don't forget it's.................BETA

Played the caspian border map for a few rounds on the pc before the room crashed. That map is what battlefield is suppose to be. I don't know why they used the metro map for such a big open beta. People are going to think that metro is what battlefield is, and it's not. The caspian map is huge, with big explosions and the sense of war all around you. It also looks great, and seeing the jets overhead and helicoptors is awsome. It's fun just to set and watch the planes dog fight. Well I'm off and going to try to get into another room.

I was reading Gameinformer yesterday and they were talking about it. I was drooling from what they were saying.

This is 100% true, that map is NOTHING like metro at all, its a whole new sort of thing, like you said, what battlefield should be.

Here's the passwprd to get into caspian tongiht shoppingcartsareagoodride
I don't knw how long it will last before they change it. It takes awhile to finally get into a server, but it's worth every minute you spend trying.

I hope more of them have similar close quarters combat. I've seen videos of this other one and it just looks huge. It looks fantastic but even with big team games the battle is rarely over the whole map.

+1

It´s impossible to just run around like a headless chicken shooting at everything here, even in Softcore :)

Favorite gun atm? Mine is AK-74 with the double-circle laser sight. Man what a terrific gun that is :)

I can't wait, I can't get online until this weekend

Edit: sorry Time_Attack, i edited my post after you posted, and didn't see it, but I was kind of late on the subject anyways but it should have button mapping, I think bc2 had some sort of configuration presets or something which is better than nothing

Actually no. Homefront had the same exact default layout as COD. They could easily place the same button layouts as other games. I'd like them to put a tactical layout from cod in the game. I play both games and going from one to the other I always forget which is knife and which is crouch.

Hopefully the full retail will have fully custom button mapping as has already been suggested.

I do agree however when the full game hits Metro will probably be a nice map to break up the large vehicle heavy maps with some more close quarters stuff. I really do enjoy that map. Is it battlefield's signature map? No. Should the open beta have been on it? God no.

But if Metro was released with the game as just a regular close quarters infantry map then I doubt you'd see even half the negative reactions towards it. Caspian definitely should have been the Beta map but this is what we've got so I'm happy for now. What are we now? Less then a month? And I can't wait.

Edit: Time Attack while I agree the battle doesn't always take place over the whole map all the time it quite often does when vehicles get involved. Did you play BC2? Conquest with vehicles will take up huge maps even with 24 players.

The password for Caspian changes daily for those of you who were wondering.

I think Caspian isn't being used because they broadcasted metro everywhere and I suppose are more confident showing it off as a more bug free map as opposed to Caspian. They showed metro in lots of the presentations and game booths and I THINK it may have had further testing than Caspian.
