@ Dzidza

Sorry I couldnt make it yesterday! I was busy and had to pick up my GF in the city.

For the rest I just wanted to say that I love these custom servers! Joined one yesterday that started out with 1500 tickets per side on Metro CQ... whole game lasted 78 minutes... :p We had pushed the other team all the way back to C and just kept romping them in the hallways there not letting them get through.... I used the S12K with buckshot and had a blast! :) Ended up with a good 30K+ total in points... Wish I wouldve been there from the start because it wouldve been a whole lot more

@VEXD

Yep, it has shifted a lot and my engi now either has a Javelwin or Stinger/Igla equipped instead of my regular RPG... :p

No problem mate, GF comes in the first place :-). I'll probably be online tonight, so if you see me send me an invite 👍

Still issues with getting over/jumping over rails/getting out of windows.(I'm going to have to break this habit of even trying)
Still issues with knifing animation not registering. (I'm going to have to break this habit also)
Still issues getting stuck on certain things
Still issues with my gun locking up and not firing leading to my death.
Unable to lay down/use my mortar anywhere in Grand Bazaar
Reload from ammo drop seems more iffy.
Sound drop off still on Tehran Highway and now Caspian Border.
Issue getting over the dirt hill near the construction vehicle(outside the fuel tanker the fuel tanker near the broken wall) in Damavand Peak
Trying to change accessories for a gun in the Assualt Loadout changes to the wrong gun.

I've got to get used to all of my guns all over again, but I'm still having fun with BF3, so that's good. 👍

I see that as the fun part though, learning the limits all over again :)

No prob mate, I think I'll be online tonight too, after yesterday I'm all into the game again! 👍

Still loving the new patch. Still haven't seen a single USAS user. Got rid of the foregrip last night and noticed a slight decrease in recoil (G36) but didn't get a major amount anyway. I may try out the bi pod sometime. Switched the SMAW/RPG for the javelin and will probably keep it now. Although I may swap the AT mines for a repair tool as I don't seem to be getting anywhere near as many kills/disables compared to before the patch.

Was playing on a custom server last night though and kept on being disconnected. Anyone else having connection problems on custom servers? The server had a decent ping and it was only during one match.

I havent had any connection issues with custom servers... I chose one close to me though called Dutchies Homebase.. :) Great server and quite stable... Belongs to the Dutchies clan. They kick when they need room for clan members though... Didn't experience this yet, but they kindly state it on their clan banner.

Not as powerful as a Javelwin against a Viper.

I was up around Op-Fire last night, and was doing ok until someone in a tank started locking on with CITV.

We got painted, and I knew it was the tank as we were laying into him.
I could see his shiny red nose.
The guy jumps out to ruhpear, and we have to circle to get the final shots in, but whoever is in the third seat is still in the tank.
I know this because all of a sudden BANG! no more Viper.
No damage, no flames, no chance to drop to the floor and ruhpear, just gone.

The killer?

It was the guy standing a few hundred yards away, on his own near the big fuel dumps you can fly between, using his Javelwin.

One shot.

It took one shot to completely down us, and we'd flared the lock on as well.

The game's balance has been shifted.

Mike seems to be spot on 👍.

I'm having trouble adjusting to the shift......

Having said that, the Havoc is awesome.

:irked:👍

Going to have to go below radar far more often in choppers I think to break locks.

So a long session tonight under the belt, including 2 hours on a 700 ticket, 24/7 Metro map which was mental. Good place to try different weapons though and I got like 30 resupply ribbons too throughout. (best round: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/battlereport/show/38450646/4/320034146/)

Then some fun times with gundalini, which was interspersed with moments of "why".

In general:

PKP has less recoil and absolutely no stopping power beyond 20m. What is the point of the heavy calibre then :grumpy:?
P90 feels nice with no recoil, but is so underpowered. Lost most encounters with the lowly M4A1.
Claymores are less deadly damage wise. Lost count the number of time people ran over and took damage, instead of dying. Seems like unless they run right over the top of them, they get splash damage.
Helis are easy meat. Shot down 3 more at Firestorm, including low flying ones. Jets are harder and still seem able to evade missiles.
Got a 1 shot, double kill against a tank with a Javelin :(. Tanks are mighty useless now, a guided missile does 70 damage
Supression perk is utterly useless. Don't waste your time.

Also, have they changed the scoring somehow? I am clocking up 5 and 6k rounds now and that is way above my normal scoring zone per round...

Some good fun rounds there Mike but as you mentioned some frustration mixed in.
Game froze for me at Firestorm and by the time I had a drink and tried to rejoin you had logged off.

Still don't know what to make of the patch to be honest, my favourite the tanks have been somewhat shall we say downgraded. :grumpy:

That good round we had at Caspien where we both scored around 10,000 points does give me encouragement that tanks are still a viable choice if used well. An engineer now riding shotgun to repair is now pretty much essential.

http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/#!/bf3/battlereport/show/38456401/4/365413792/

Prior to the patch I managed fine tank wise by myself but that seems a thing of the past now.

I do like that the choppers can be brought down easier though. My single tank round to the attack heli at Caspien for a destroy and double kill is testament to that. :D

Oh well my search for suitable weapons continues. After a quick try of the M16A3 I think I'll go with that for a bit as it seems to be a stable starting platform.

Has anyone else had mic issues since the patch? I had a few rounds tonight where the mic didn't function for myself and another friend I was playing with.

Cheers Shaun.

^ I'm seriously contemplating renting a server for 90 days for friends and GTPers to play. Trying to gauge interest with my local friends to see if its worthwhile... Just the thought of hosting my own BF server is making me want to do it more and more though... :) Nothin' but 2000 ticket games... J/K

^ That would be necessary seeing that a lot of us live in different time zones... I'd probably pick someone for each region to be admin. But let me rent the thing first and then we can see how we set things up, still havent decided 100% :) I will of course involve the regular players of GTP in this process. 👍

I played for a few hours last night on the new patch and I have mixed feelings. I was incredibly frustrated with the patch when I first started playing because of the complete lack of balance on the server I was playing on. The team I was on could do nothing to stop the other from completely dominating my "team".

I tried piloting a helicopter and jet and was promptly shot down nearly as soon as I left the runway. I am at best a decent jet pilot and the two pilots on the other team were just a bit more experienced. To say I stood no chance is an understatement. Even if I spotted one of the two, the other guy was all over my tail and laying rounds quickly into my jet. With the changes, there is absolutely no reason at all for me to get into a jet. I am better off leaving a jet to someone else and not wasting my time trying to get better, as trying to get better will just leave me too frustrated and not wanting to play the game at all. DICE really dropped the ball on not offering some kind of training for jet piloting like with the helicopter co-op mission. Pilot training servers are mostly not fun. Every time I have played in one, there is that one guy who is a good pilot and thinks it is a good idea to go into a training server to be a troll.

Before the patch, I never really had the complaints that attack helicopters were too powerful. When attack helicopters were a problem, it had more to do with playing on a bad team that did not play together and was likely to be curb stomped regardless of how dominate or not dominate the vehicles were. My helicopter piloting is much better than my jet piloting, but I am still just an average helicopter pilot at best. Though, my skills in flying a helicopter have improved tremendously thanks to lot of practice in the co-op mission. I have yet to have a really great run in a match, but I have done decently and would likely do much better with a good gunner and communication with the gunner. With the patch changes, I do not know if I should continue to try and improve my helicopter flying skills. I found the helicopter to be fairly squishy before the patch. Seemingly every time I piloted one, I instantly became the focus to destroy as quickly as possible; this is not that likely, but it certainly felt that way. Pre-patch, I wanted to be in a helicopter more often, but was never dead often enough when one was available or missed out because someone got to the chopper before I did. Now with the changes, the helicopter is even squishier and that means my average flying skills are going to be even more apparent; I am just not sure it is worth the frustration of constant, near instant death to try and get better. Maybe I give it a go in another server where the team I am on is not getting steamrolled by the other.

My ground vehicles and infantry experience was similar to my air support experience in that server. If it were not for later games on another server, then I would not have had an opinion on the weapon changes, as I never had a chance to fire more than a single burst before dying. All in all, my initial impression of the patch was not good. Everything I did resulted in my death.

So I switched servers. Took me a try or two to find one in which one side was not getting steamrolled. I wanted to find an Operation Metro server in the first place to test out the weapon changes, as Metro can be good map to judge weapon performance. The patch is interesting with regards to weapon performance. It is going to take a bit of time to discover what combination of attachments works best.

So far, I like the L85A2 with Foregrip and Heavy Barrel. The combination works well. The changes to the Heavy Barrel make the previously accurate L85A2 even more accurate. The weapon is still going to struggle at close range because of the low fire rate, but will be tremendous at anything over close range.

I also tested out the M16A4 with a Holo Sight, Foregrip, and Suppressor. Before the patch, I did not like burst fire weapons. The burst fire weapons just did not seem to recover nearly quick enough after each burst to be overly effective. Now with the changes to the M16A4, my impressions has somewhat changed. I liked how the weapon performed and being able to still utilize the Suppressor at ranges longer than close range will be beneficial. Before I completely judge the M16A4, I need to use the weapon more and get a better overall feel of the weapon.

At this point, I have not played enough in the new patch to judge it one way or the other. My initial impression was not good, but my impression of the patch has changed some after a bit more play time. Weapon attachments have changed dramatically. Vehicles have changed dramatically. This patch has made Battlefield 3 into a different game and it is going to take some time to adjust.

TL;DR: I need more in game time to judge how I feel about the patch.

A couple of good weapon setups I have found are
M16A3 Red dot foregrip and flash suppresser for close to medium range
L85A2 red dot foregrip and heavy barrel
AK74m red dot heavy barrel
The heavy barrel increases recoil but makes it more of a straight line, and the flash suppresser reduces recoil but with a wider spread.

DON’T use the normal suppresser as it makes your bullet spread bloom quicker

Loving the new custom servers thing. Especially on infantry based maps (too many issues with vehicles at the moment for me, glitched heat seekers vs jets, paper mache tanks, inconsistent flares/ecm vs laser designator etc) with high ticket count you can really have some epic battles.

But back to the main thing I wanted to write about. My favourite close quarters loadout.

Main gun: bye bye 870mcs, hello M1014 !! Incredible stopping power and with adjusted rate of fire after the update, it is a beastly weapon. I went 41-9 at grand bazaar with it yesterday against skilled enemies.

Main gun 2: You already know about power of handguns from my earlier posts, but there is one star in this group. It doesn't shine yet as brightly as it should because people are still trying to adjust their foregrips, suppressors and heavy barrels on their assault rifles/carbines but it all doesn't matter because DICE made one gun really , really , really , REALLY stand out in recent patch. I think this clip will tell you what I'm "talking" about:

Yup, Harry Callahan approves this update. :)

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, so I'll bring it up. Is it just me, or have some of the sounds been changed/improved? I was in the Havoc on Kharg Conquest and when we took a missile shot it actually sounded like a missile hit us. Instead of just a thud like I remember, I heard what I can only describe as 'metal destruction'. But then again I still have the glitch where every once in a while the ambient sound cuts out, so maybe I just have never heard that before.

I was messing around with the M1014 pre-patch and mostly liked the weapon. There were times when I would not get kills that I likely would have had I been using the USAS. The spread on the M1014 was one culprit and the other was not being able to fire fast enough. With the fire rate upped and the spread reduced, I am going to have to try the weapon again.

I watched a video about the buffs to the .44 Magnum last night. Interesting that the weapon is much more effective, but I am still not likely to use the Magnum. The visual recoil is just too much to deal with, especially since I tend to spam fire when I pull out a pistol. Maybe I will give it a go when I try out the M1014 again.

Speaking of pistols, the M1911 did seem to be a bit more effective than pre-patch. This may just be perceived though since the weapon did not change with the patch, as there is no need to re-familiarize myself with the weapon.

1000 (?) ticket conquest on Kharg Island: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/battlereport/show/38509256/4/191260089/

Probably the most fun loss I've ever had. Thankfully the M240B is not changed much by the patch. Hopefully I'll find one of those high-ticket Op Metro servers. :)

Yeah, the sounds have been upped a good bit in the patch. The idea is now you know what it was that hit you and where it came from.

No disrespect to automatic pistol users, but the REX and .44 are awesome secondaries that require a whole different approach to handgun use. I do tend to forget that I even have a pistol most of the time, but when I do use them I find myself pulling the revolver even when I have primary ammo left in the magazine just because of their immense power compared to just about anything that isn't a shotgun, explosive or sniper rifle. It's pretty satisfying hitting an enemy a couple of times with an assault rifle as they run for cover, then casually just strolling up to them, maybe getting hit once or twice and essentially just executing them with a single shot instead of crazy spam (which I also do with the automatics) (and when I say 'automatic', I mean anything except the revolvers).

Also the M1911 was bugged, I think it had a sort of delay between shots if you timed the shots slightly wrong so they might have just fixed that and otherwise left it alone. That's one gun I'd like to try again, actually, it seems to bridge the gap between the automatic pistols and revolvers so maybe I'd get on with it quite well.

So I just started playing multiplayer today, anyone can tell which weapons are the best for each class? please.

Assault- M16A3 (starting weapon)
Engineer- M4A1 (starting weapon)
Support- PKP Pecheng
Recon- I think it's the M98B, but they're all pretty similar.

Good list, I like the AEK for assault over the M16 personally though.
