If you rent a server, yes.

You can set Tickets from 10% to 500%. Official servers are always 100%.

Edit: "War Tapes" is the highest audio quality. You need surround sound for it, otherwise it will destroy the speakers. At least, that's what it was reported to do in BC2.

So I best not use it on TV speakers?

I'd advise against doing that. For the 10 seconds I switched audio, it sounded drowned out. Pretty sure prolonged use would damage the regular TV speakers.

Not sure if you meam to be funny but im pretty sure he means CQ-Conquest.
Yes, I was trying to be funny, I know exactly what he meant.

I haven't been on in ages. Downloading the new patch is going to be a pain.

On the war tapes issue I'm pretty sure I read that it is for a proper surround system. It does sound awesome when you turn it up on a good system though.

Cheers Shaun.

I don't hear much of a difference between War Tapes, Home Cinema or Hi-Fi.

The again, I've only got the Virtual Surround headset

Yes it does! It was nice playing with 5.1 surround again last night. Been far to long.

Got my first chopper destroy with the smaw earlier last night. 2 in one round on firestorm. Idiots trying g to take a by landing on the roof. Climb pipes and fire. Booooooom.
Also took out a little bird with a hand grenade, I think it landed in the spotter seat.

To be honest I haven't tried it on home cinema. I'll give it a try sometime to see if I can hear a difference. Just when I read war tapes was the top level I put it on that and have left it ever since.

Cheers Shaun.

Had an awesome chopper shot yesterday with an RPG. On Canals, was lining up to shoot one of the Little Birds, took my shot, and at the exact moment, the second Little Bird flew into the path of my RPG. BAM, vehicle disabled and destroyed. Only got one kill out of it though.

Oh yes, I also updated the GTPlanet leaderboard over on BF3stats.com. It now shows some different aspects of performance. If you havent joined it can be found here, and the password is gtplanet. If you want me to change the boards to show other stats, then let me know. Its pretty interesting to see all the differing playstyles that we all have.

Also, has anyone used Better Battlelog? Its basically a browser add on (Chrome and Firefox only) that integrates the weapon leaderboards with your Battlelog account. Pretty cool.

Set to TV setting, don't hear much difference. Also put on the Audio improving setting or whatever for TVs.

Battlefield is a well-made product. COD is an afterthought, part of a giant money-making tactic gone wrong.

Yet, COD is actually the better made product. How many bugs are we still dealing with half a year after the release of BF3?

I like both. That MW3 blackout day thing "to protest the current state of the game" is weird.

Too bad the Community manager for Infinity Ward, Robert Bowling (aka FourZeroTwo), resigned from his position a few days ago. Although I think IW hasn't had much control over the series anymore.

OK, back to Battlefield. I'm online now.

Getting into games is a huge pain in the butt now. Before I could just use quick match and choose RUSH and bam!, I was in an Asian RUSH Server. Now there are no Asian Rush servers. I have to go to the server browser, select Rush, 5+ players, Asia (though worthless) US West and Europe, find one that has 4 out of 5 bars for ping (there are no 5 bar pings in the browser), locate a server, view it, look at the map rotation to be sure it actually is all rush, then join. Usually I am playing Operation Metro as that seems to be a favorite of people who rent servers. I haven't played on Shargi Peninsula, Gulf of Oman, Operation Firestorm, Karkand, etc, since downloading the patch.

Was going to hop onto tonight but way to tired. I played almost nonstop until 330 am this morning. Played some rounds alone, hoped in with gatyr n cowboy for a while then with Mike and gundalini.
I have a hard time putting the damn controller down and would end up playing all night again ;)
Ill be on again definitely Thursday night around 11 pm est pretty much till sunrises.

Speedy, take metro off your search settings and only put on the maps you want. Or stick with dice servers they seem more stable anyway.

I was playing with Mike and gundalini on what I assume was an Australian server and I did not experience any lag. Nor have I had post patch ping problems.

Alright guys, My first post about BF3. I rented it thru Redbox and played it for about 3 days, a few hours at a time. I have not finished campaign mode. The last level I remember playing was driving the tank thru Iraq. This is what I think of BF3 to COD.

Graphics: BF3 by a long shot farther than a rocket can fly. I love how the shadows are in BF3. My biggest thing I love the most is seeing tracers rounds go thru the air, and also seeing a contrail from the bullet every so often. I also like how all the guys look in BF3 as well. Explosions are quite nice as well. Looks quite lifelike. One thing I noticed in BF3 is that there would be areas where the area is not flat but many objects would be floating in air. For me, that's something that should of been resolved a long time ago. (updated to current version as of writing) COD graphics are the same since COD4. They look a bit cleaner but it is still the same graphics. I am not gonna get into some levels being reused in other games. That just not fun for me. I like to see things look better with each iteration. COD is not my cup of tea anymore.

Sound: BF3 again. The sound of guns going off is great. Hearing a bullet wiz by your ear, makes you jump or boost your adrenaline. When your in an area and surrounded by people shooting at you, it is surreal. COD is just about the same as it was before so nothing really new.

Controls: COD. With every COD I've played, I never really had an area where the controls don't work right. In a tank level on BF3 I was stuck between objects, and I could not get out and move. I have to finagle with the direction of the tank to get out of the spot so I could continue. It was a real pain in my opinion.

Presentation: BF3. BF3 gives something new to fighting a war. They made an OK storyline to why and where you are fighting. I was wondering how and why I was on a subway car. I think I have it mostly figured out, but I have not finished the campaign still. COD still continues from MW2, but I think the story could be a bit longer tho. I think that Activision is putting more into the online aspect then single player. I do not remember how long MW3 is in single player. I think shooter games should be nice and deep, like about 20 hours total. That way there is plenty to do and all.

Final Thoughts: I am all for BF3. My girlfriends stepson is going to be going back to Iraq soon. He is a gamer when home or between his duty's. He has played both, and highly recommends BF3 for realism over COD. I was asking his thoughts on it. He mention that the sounds are really spot on towards a real life battle. He said that most things that EA has done is pretty good, but not absolute to real life.

So, in conclusion, I do play on buying BF3 in the near future. I plan to finish the campaign, then work the Co-Op, then do some online battles. Hopefully I will see you guys on the battlefield soon.

From memory Mike joined me there so it would have been a US West Coast server. I still haven't gotten around to changing my search settings back to include the Aus ones as the were shocking at one stage (1 bar of ping).

@yzfmike
If you enjoy the single player on BF3 you will enjoy the multi playing for sure. That's where BF3 shines.
I can't comment on the latest COD as I haven't played it.

Cheers Shaun.

I regret nothing about buying/playing the glitchy BF3 instead of COD because most of BF3's glitches don't ruin the game for everyone. COD has had a long history of game-breaking glitches.

I've only played Black Ops and MW3 but have experienced no game-breaking glitches. The glitches on BF3 however really test my patience sometimes.

Trust me, MW2 was more broken than any game I've ever seen. It seemed like every time they fixed something (which was amazing in of itself), they introduced a new glitch that everyone would take advantage of. And even the stuff that wasn't really a 'glitch' was seriously unbalanced and game ruining.

All this talk of COD vs BF3 reminds me that there is a COD vs BF3 thread already :p.

Not missing much mate. There are so few 5 bar EA servers, that when a space does free up, you end up with a "come soldier, the enemy now holds all objectives" narration in the spawn screen.

Not a huge fan of the private servers....people don't really PTO and just try pad their stats. VEXD, if you were wondering why when you joined me yesterday on that 24/7 Caspian map I was up on a hill in armour, it was because some jerkweed sniper was camping up there.

I got stabbed twice at A when capturing the flag because he was up in the hills spotting me. When I chased after him up there, I got lost and he ended up stabbing me too :grumpy:. So I decided he'd have a tough time stabbing a tank, so I drove up there to sort him out, one time. Turns out the Abrams is crap at hill climbing :indiff:.

Less ping means a faster connection.

Please correct my tech noobishness if I'm wrong.

Isn't ping the speed at which the signal (in this case BF3 data) gets to it's destination and returns to you. So yes the lower ping (as in time) the better.
But doesn't the 5 ping bars on BF3 mean that the more bars you have the better the ping, ie lower time to return or faster speed?

Cheers Shaun.

Use the boost (L3) on the Abrams.

At least it isn't the T-90. You would have pirouetted down the hill. All the times I've driven out of the Russian base on Caspian and take a shortcut down through the grassy hill and suddenly finding myself facing back up the hill without having used any steering input.

Dorifto!

Yeah Gunda, that's how I see it too.

You need a low ping to get good connection speeds, but I assume you need a 5 bar server to get the best ping connection/rating.

When you shoot your gun at someone, lets say I'm in the UK and he's in AUS, the information that I shot at him goes from my PS3 to the server (either uk or aus), then from the server to his PS3, then if he's in the right place when I shot, the bullet hits him, and the info that the bullet hit him goes from his PS3 to the server, then back to my PS3 so I can see a hit marker.
This is all happening in nano-seconds, from all angles, and all kinds of countries, all over the world.
It's quite astonishing when you think about it.
The ping speed is the time it takes the packets of information (I shot a bullet, at that guy over there Mr PS3... if you please....) to go to the server and come back to your PS3 (I know you did, Mr VEXD, I'm just checking with the AUS server, to see if you're a 🤬 shot or not).

Hope that helps.

Actually, I know it won't but what the heck.

YZF, nice write-up.

:irked:👍
