Although I've noticed the P90 seems to be more potent than I remember it being pre-patch.

Seems to have a lot less recoil now, which is great. Does burn through ammo though if nobody has Ammo Perk equipped :(
 
I only noticed because one guy was using it with a suppressor and was seemingly one-shotting me even though I would be shooting him with a DAO-12 at a really short range.
 
On that note I was looking through my stats and noticed I've hardly used any of the PDW's.
Can anyone recommend one to start with?

Ironsights are crap, but its a good weapon. Just don't go getting into firefights over 15-20m as with all PDWs, the range drops off a lot.

UMP45 I will also recommend, my third best gun kill wise IIRC and I have some crazy accuracy with it.

I would agree with this for all the PDW's except for the PDW-R. It uses the 5.56x45mm NATO round so it is a bit more capable at range than the other PDW's. It's name in real life is the PDR wich stands for Personal Defence Rifle.
next best at range in my opinion would be the PP2000 thanks to its High velocity armour piercing round. P90 is a very good all round weapon though with a very high ROF and ammo capacity. so i would recommend either those three aswell as the MP7 wich in my opinion is just as good as the P90. Its just down to personal preference.
 
Had a few rounds now and noticed:

a) 2-3 seconds 'wait' before a round starts now. Not straight into it as before.
b) Stingers/ Iglas are no longer 1 hit disables of helis
c) ATG missile is no longer a 1 hit disable/kill on tanks.
 
I can hear VEXD jumping with joy (well, less grumpyness anyway). I'll be on tonight too, Blitz/Dzidza, not been on in a week or so.
 
^ USAS has been laid to rest though... On Metro Ive been sporting the Saiga with buckshot... :) You havent noticed? :p
 
Saiga+Kobra+Buck=31-4 camping in corner 19 kills with Saiga rest with Magnum or C4. I camped in the same corner the whole match.

Hey guys, I posted this over at the battlelog forums but as is always the case with official forums, they werent very helpful. So Ive come to GTPlanet for hopefully some advice.

Ive been enjoying this game on console since launch but the recent patch has rendered the game completely unplayable. I freeze out of at least 2 in every 3 games and require a hard reset, often to only have the same thing happen again and again. I digress.

Anyway, so this afternoon (well technically it was yesterday for me) I bought a key for this game from a site, was perfectly legit, got a scan of the box. Downloaded and installed with no problems. Other than one, a message saying something about punkbuster and something or other, I cant really remember. Install completed after I clicked OK so I thought it was all going to be fine. So I click the big play button in Origin and an error message came up:

So I did a bit of searching around and read something about it being DirectX related. Someone recommend an upgrade to Vista SP2, which I did, and it, in return, did nothing. Found another site which recommended checking dxidiag, or DirectX Diagnostics. Did that, gave me this:

This is strange for me to see that I only have DirectX 10, as I have a Radeon HD6850, which Im fairly certain supports DirectX 11, also, I can run Project: CARS in DX11.

I have checked in System32 and I can clarify that dxgi.dll is in there. I even copied it into the game directory at /origin games/battlefield 3. To no avail.

My system is as follows:
Intel DX38BT | Q6600 2.4GHZ Quad Core | 512GB HDD | Radeon 6850 | 4GB DDR2

I have tried to update my video card drivers, but catalyst control centre crashed during that. I tried to reinstall the game, but that would require redownloading it, and, as mentioned above, I have limited data allowance from my ISP. I tried a method of backing up the downloaded game and tricking Origin into thinking that it had been redownloaded, but that just left me with two corrupt versions of the file. And no working one to copy back. So I guess Im redownloading. Only now Origin refuses to open after I tried the copy method, So I guess Ill be reinstalling that as well. I tried to reinstall DirectX from a .exe I found in the games directory, but that also did nothing.

Its ten past five in the morning and I have been at this for about 5 hours since 10pm last night, and Im pretty much back to where I started when I first posted about buying this. Understandably frustrated.

tl;dr: Im not meant to ever play this game again.
 
Yes, you need SP2 , Direct X Redistributable, and a couple of Windows Updates.

You are most likely not running pCARS in DX11. It is probably knocking it down to 10 even though you're launching the game with DX11 EXE.

After you update right click on the BF3 icon in your origin library and choose "reinstall" or "repair;" something to that effect. You can try launching the game right away after the updates but I am fairly certain you'll need to reinstall. No re-download as far as I know; just make sure you have back-ups of those English language packs from cdkeyhouse. Look for mirror sites by searching for the file name if the cdkeyhouse hosted file is too slow.

Also, overclock the hell out of that card and you should be playing at high settings with an extremely smooth framerate. My brother has that card and manages to get 20-30 FPS average on ultra , but that's just not playable for me. He runs high at 1680 x 1050 or 1920 x 1080 and it looks great. No ultra with fxaa injector but still leaps and bounds above console. Enjoy it. You can see your framerate with an overlay such as Fraps, MSI Afterburner, or with the in-game console command "Render.drawfps 1" (Console activated with ~ key).

Can confirm this 👍, also it seems the armour level has had a buff all round. Not to pre patch levels, but does seem more balanced. A good heli pilot will still take you out rather quickly though.

Thanks Zoology, I tried repairing from the Origin menu but nothing would happen when I would click it. When I went to reinstall it opened a download window and proceeded to start that again. I cancelled that and went about another method, as I wasnt waiting another seven hours for it. But apparently I will be.

When am I supposed to install those packs? And if I understand correctly, am I meant to install two things? I followed those instructions on the support page, but they werent particularly helpful.

Whats interesting to me is when the game first installed I clicked play and it opened a box called "Authentication" and a whole bunch of Russian characters. I couldnt tell what any of it meant so I clicked what I thought was cancel and that was the end of that. Then after that I tried to install the language packs and got that dialogue box with the option for switching to English. Did that, and Ive been getting the above error since.

Im not really a graphics snob, in fact I rarely notice any difference between settings on other PC games. Also Im a bit of a noob so I dont want to mess around too much just yet. Having a game to actually play would suit me fine for now.

You're definitely not running DX11, so that's a problem. However, it might be an associated .dll with the language pack. There are multiple packs to download from cdkeyhouse; you might have just installed one. Give me a couple minutes and I'll jump on my PC and get this sorted out for you.
 
Surely the download of the game will be in your downloads folder? Keep us up to date with how you get on with all the above, I deal with missing dll's a fair bit at work.
 
Ok, things to download and install.

1- Windows update

(As far as I know you should be x64)

3- Direct X (redist)
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/confirmation.aspx?id=8109

4- BF3
Go into Origin > My Games. Right click on BF3 and choose "repair install." You should not need to re-download the software. If it forces you to: search for the install exe or locate it within your Control Panel > Programs and features and choose "repair install." If this fails skip this step as I am 99% certain this isn't the problem at this point.

5- English packs from cdkeyhouse

Make sure you follow the directions exactly.
You need to download and install the corresponding files from these dates and in this order: Oct 24, Dec 6, Mar 29. (Look for the details by dates)
Cdkeyhouse updates the language pack with every BF3 patch/update to ensure the game stays fully supported. They don't have the best layout within their support tab and this is something I mentioned to their support team about changing.

Once you get your DX11 compatibility and what I am guessing are missing files from the language pack issues out of the way you should be up and running.

That is weird, I am not required to re-download it simply starts the re-install process. I don't see an installer exe in the C:/....Origin Games/BF3 folder. Just skip the BF3 re-download/re-install for now; install the language packs and see if that solves it.

The main problem is the DX compatibility (as that .dll is associated with DX) ; as long as you have installed the mentioned software and language packs you should not require a re-install of BF3.

You may also try launching the DX installer within the ......Origin Games\Battlefield 3\__Installer\directx\redist folder named "DXSETUP" AFTER you follow my instructions above.

Well, good luck. (Corruption is why you are forced to re-download it; I must have missed that part when reading). Hopefully I'll see you on the battlefield in a couple hours.
 
Ok. Bf3 ready to install. Dx installed and up to date. Just waiting for the language pack. Pretty painful at 30kbs. At this rate this 890mb file is going to take longer than the 15gb bf3 file...
 
4 passes in the Viper and finally kill Mike! Pretty decent round of matches tonight (blitz/dzidza, I tried to join you but spent about 10 minutes in a queue and got bored, sorry), the SKS is a beast. I have more kills with it than the M40 and in well under half the time. That was a good private server tonight too, containing all the decent maps (barring Wake :().
 
I have learned to never expect anything intelligent from any of the battlelog forums...

I have been without internet for a couple weeks, and the first thing i hear when i get back is the tanks armor has been buffed? Has there been any other tweaks?

I joined on your team at the round before, and then Firestorm kicked off and I leap into a tank thinking "its ok, the GTP lads will have air superiority, I'me gonna take the risk of going around to ambush A".

And then Nigel destroys my tank and then eventually me! Stupid rebalancing nonsense.

I shoulda hid behind that walkway 2 secs long then got the Stinger out :irked:

Also, love affair with the QBB95 is over. Its just a repackaged RPK.
