Heavy Metal - Slayer
Death Metal - Deicide currently for me, but best ever maybe Morbid Angel or Cannibal Corpse.

Heavy Metal - Tool
Death metal - Nile
Synth-Pop - Depeche Mode
Country - Junior Brown
Hard Rock - Led Zeppelin (is that a fair genre for them?)
Rock and Roll - Beatles

Joy Division is the best of their genre. Whatever you want to call it. I believe some newage douchebags call it Post-Punk. So that.

I'd say that Led Zeppelin is more Blues-Rock than hard rock, although they are known for being able to work in many genres. But no matter what genre anyone wants to place them in, they are one of the greatest bands to ever play.

But as for Hard Rock, I'd say Van Halen is the best at that genre, although you're bound to get many different opinions for each genre.

Blues Rock? That's an actual genre? I thought Rock was just a transformation and evolution of Blues.

ARGH!!! I hate genre classification to the max.

Blues Rock - Deep Purple
Rock - Joe Satriani
Metal - Symphony X
Rap - DMX
Trance - Cosmic Gate

Arent genres in general pointless and redundant? My mp3 collection is broken into 4 categories and that's only because I've got like 500+ albums in there and it's hard to find specific stuff without decently sorting it out.

Hip-hop/R&B/Hip-hop related stuff, Rock/Rock related music, Trance/trance-like music, and Jazz/Chillout/Classical/Slow Stuff

Rock- Linkin Park
Rap- Beastie Boys
Pop- None. Pop sucks.

Metal - Black Sabbath
Pyschedelic Rock - Pink Floyd
Progressive Metal - Tool
Industrial - Nine Inch Nails
Nu-Metal - Deftones
Death Metal - In Flames
Hard Rock - Soil

I'm sure Led Zeppelin fits in here somewhere, but I don't know what to categorize them under...

emad
Metal - Symphony X
Symphony X are Power Metal. All those symphonic metal like Symphony X, Stratovarius, etc are power metal.

I was really hooked on rage against the machine for a while a long time after they broke up so I really dont know anything bout them. I heard somewhere that they might have been fake and that they didnt really support wat they wrote. Is this true? Id like to know
thanx

Industrial - Ministry
Heavy Metal - Pantera
Death Metal - In Flames
Progressive Metal - Rammstein
Rock - Smashing Pumpkins
Hard Rock - Too many to mention
Blues Rock - Led Zeppelin
Trance - Chicane
Techno - Aphex Twin Other notables include: Crystal method, and Orbital
House - Fatboy Slim Other notables include: Bassment Jaxx, Daft Punk, and Fluke
Trip Hop - Dj Shadow Other notables include: Junkie XL, Massive Attack, and Theivery Corp.
Drum N' Bass - Photek Other notables include: Amon Tobin
Hardcore Techno - Prodigy Notables such as: Squarepusher, Curve, Humble Brothers.
Old School Rap - Naughty by Nature
Rap - uhm.... don't really like rap. Beastie Boys are ok I guess *shrugs* Oh wait I like Mos Def but he's kinda Hip Hop.
Video Game music - Daiki Kasho, Hitoshi Sakimoto or Nobuo Uematsu
Classical - Mike Oldfield is cool..... oh wait! Sergei Rachmaninoff
Country - Country sucks ass.... Kenny Rogers is ok for Xmas music though.. meh.
New Age - uhm..... no one Vangelis is pretty cool though.
Pop - ermhh... can't think of any right now
Soft Rock - Coldplay

I'd personally would like to add Ferry Corsten, DJ Icey, Daft Punk, Jurassic-5, Swollen Members, Sweatshop Union, and Outkast to their respective genres.

Punk - Refused
Psychadelic Rock - Radiohead, The Mars Volta (tie)
Rap/Hip-Hop - Public Enemy
Country - Johnny Cash
Folk/Rock - Bob Dylan

Theres too many genres, I propose sorting them into this:

Country:
Classical:

Of course there are heaps of genres. Most of them are derived from people who don't know what to classify a band as, so they make up some crazy genre...

Heavy Metal - Slayer
Death Metal - Deicide currently for me, but best ever maybe Morbid Angel or Cannibal Corpse.

I agree with Jimmy Enslashay with Slayer as the best in Heavy Metal, the others would be (Butthead: He said wood)

Pop: Michael Jackson
Love Music: Cutting Crew
Rap: Tupac (Not my favorite, is the only rap band I know of, since my brother listens to him)
R'n'B: ?
Country: ?
Classical: ?
Punk: Rancid
Metal: Slayer
Rock: Motley Crue
Rock'n'Roll: Elvis Presley
Blues: ?
Jazz: Xavier Cugat
Ethnic: ?
Techno/Trance/etc: ?
Pop Rock: Gary Numan(?) (NOt sure what Pop Rock is)

The ones with: ? means I don't know what the genre is.

Funk Rock - Red Hot Chili Peppers [my fav band]
Alternative Pop Rock - Ben Folds (Five)
Acid Jazz Funk Pop Dance - Jamiroquai
Celtic Alternative Rock - Cranberries
Jazz Funk - Tower Of Power
Comedy Alternative Rock - Tenacious D, Shirehorses [too close]
Rap Metal - Linkin Park
Break Beat - 4 Hero [top group, check it out]
Urban Crossover - Beverley Knight
Pop Punk - Green Day

But you can go on all day, because at the end of the day each band has it's own genre. The only genre that you really can pigeon hole is pop, because so much of it gets churned out.

Led zep ..put them in whatever catagory you please. mettalica ..metal.. guns 'n roses in the sex drugs and rock till you drop then disapear catagory. alice in chains for the "why did we name us that" ? catagory ..honorable mention tool and Anthrax.

Pink floyd in the " wow look at the pretty colors" catagory and the GRATEFULL DEAD for the " how the hell did they ever make so much cash" ? catagory along with honorable mention for the best performance while stoned and the wtf is he saying ? and the most drugs swallowed at a sitting without death or live embalment catagorys.

SLAYER!! 👍

Threads like this make me laugh - It seems that most members hate on rap, hip-hop, RnB etc anyway

I cant believe no-one has mentioned Jay-z, he (or Nas?) is probably the best rap artist ever ! Came from absolutely nothing and now has everything he could ever want or wish for, because of hard work and dedication.

So in reply to the thread - Jay-Z is my best Rap artist ever.
