I've been having a problem, GT5's graphics look square and ugly, but when I start up GT5P it all looks fine!

Any help? Settings could be a problem.

I may be imagining this, but I feel that the game looks the nicest in bumper cam view. It may be that there is less load on the GPU as it doesn't have to display your car model, and thus other visual effects are improved. But then again, I may be imagining this, it's hard to tell. Also, there may be some filter effect applied in bumper cam view. Try racing La Sarthe 09' at night and alternate between cockpit and bumper cam and I believe there is a noticeable, albeit slight, difference. Either way, I am not too bothered about the aliasing and graphical quirks...too busy focusing on not locking up my wheels under heavy breaking!

The cockpit view looks worse than GT5p for some reason

Edit: But the bumpy ride is win

Normal cockpit view is great. Narrow and narrower are awful, game slows down and it feels like nfs shift: No feeling of speed, accelaration or braking.

I'm gonna stick with bumper cam.

Make sure your TV isn't being too helpful - on mine I've got three 'settings' tabs, I've called one "Game" (well, XBox :D ) and that one has sharpness and auto-contrast turned off.

With the sharpness 'on' TV pictures look great but games look jaggy. Just a thought...

I mean the numbers on the dash in GT5 look blurry and a little unclear, but gt5p looks great, any explanation? And the the bumpy ride is strange

👍

Bumpy ride is strange, it seems a little improvised if you know what I mean.

But I still can't get the feeling out of my head the GT5P looks better than GT5 even the mini map in GT5p was nice and clean now it's all pixalated, and I did edit the size and etc. Also the maps are weird with edges, so are the background moving images.

Help!

I too seem to remember GT5P looking better. Also I think the physics/ff were better in that game. They are obviously trying to save resources by using worse quality textures and AA. I just cannot figure out why. There are no obvious reasons. The multiplayer is still max 16 cars, the track environments don't seem to have that many more objects, the shadows were reasonable already in GT5P, etc.

That's because the wider camera angle makes things to the side look like they zoom by faster.

The cockpit view will get sharper at higher level.

The real game will be only available to those, who do a full commitment and reach level 49. All others can go now.

- real damage
- real sharpness
- real physics
etc.

It is all a matter of your level. The better you become, the more you get from the game. That's the new philosophy.

I think they've had to tone down some details to run full weather and night effects... Or maybe its the fireworks fault?

lol the graphics will imporve as you level up? haha

Gt5 has to sacrifice some detail and polish because of added features over gt5p. Blame the ps3.

Probably so, but what exactly are those features? Weather effects eat up a lot of resources, but daytime dry races should be the same as before, shouldn't they? Prologue looked better in that respect.

Some strange thing happened to me yesterday(my ps3 was set on 1080p/720p). After i installed the game i quitted from it, and when i got back in, the resolution of my tv changed to 1680 x 1050. And man... that looked very impressive, no jaggies in menu icons and better quality in graphic of the game :dunce:. I don't know how this happened! I've played like 2 minutes and after that i turned off my tv to see what happens. When i turned it on again, it was changed on 1080p + the old jaggies. I think that 1680 x 1050 was the native resolution of the game or something... and i don't know how i manage to do it. Does anybody experienced something like this before? I want that resolution back, cause was perfect. Now, however i set my tv on 720p or 1080p with any 0-100 sharp, or any settings, it simply does not have the quality like when it was on 1680 x 1050. My tv in use is a 22" samsung LE22B450C4WXXH.

The 3D part only supports 720p from what I heard. I guess the PS3 can't handle 3D-output at 1080p.

And yes, the game looks trimmed to 720p, only in 1080p the shadows get a little freaky ...

What? That's sounds weird/interesting:dunce:. Keep us updated!

Yeah I think I read somewhere that its native resolution isn't true 1080p (1920×1080) but that's it's upscaled to 1080p.

What you stumbled into sounds like a quick fix to some of the tearing and jaggy issues all of us have been running into. Hopefully we can figure out a way to force that resolution that you said looked perfect.

I found an option in the menu with GT Life, Arcade, Track creator. Go to options, scroll down to the bottom and there's "image quality"

Mine was on normal

I also turned the intro movie off

The image quality setting does not fix it.

I've read a couple of people saying the actual horizontal resolution is cut in half:
it's 960 x 1080 instead of 1920 x 1080, and that that's the reason for the bad grahpics. Does anyone know if this is true?

If true, that sounds like it might have something to do with 3D support. How nice of them to eff up graphics for us 2D people.

Did you have to 'resize' the image when you loaded GT5? I ask because this seems to me a somewhat likely to do harm configuration. I think that if you choose a size, lets say, at least 1 pixel larger or 1 pixel smaller than the correct size, a distortion between your TV's 1080 and GT5's 1080 output may occur, leading to a non native and, maybe poorly, scaled image. I first noticed this on those screenshots by gamekult, where we can see black bars surrounding all their first set of images:

The capture resolution on those screens seems to be 720p, but the GT5 image size is even smaller than that...

If what I'm saying sounds like nosense :dunce: please correct me 👍 :D

I did not play Prologue, and I don't know how the image size was treated in it.
On the PS3, I already saw this 'image size' configuration on LBP 1. In this case there is the standart size, which works great, but if I try to get a larger image, or a smaller image visible distortions occur.

I have a 42" LCD HD 1080P tv which is fairly new.

PS3 is set to 1080p also.

When I started up GT5, I did indeed increase the game screen size as the game was not running full screen.

I may make the game screen smaller and/or run in 720p to see if it helps with jaggies and poor v-sync issues!

I tried different combinations of the following settings:

- PS3 resolution
- image quality option in GT5
- screen size option in GT5

None of these worked to make the graphics ok.

Ive noticed the same thing. I have a 52" Samsung set...GT5P looks awesome. GT5 looks "blurry" a lot of times and unsharp (and of course the jaggy shadows). The non-premium cars look worse than GT4 to me! I dont get it.

I played GT5 demo at Target a few days before release day and saw none of this. Game looked incredible...there has got to be a setting somewhere or something.

I played a demo of GT5 at a Mercedes dealership a few months back and it was awesome. What happened between that time and now? Really hope it's a bug, although I know that is wishful thinking.

what happened to cockpit view? i cant get the cockpit camera inside the car! do i have to update first? just bought game today so i need advice!
