If the 3 was present, It would have won, but it was considered too expensive.... :indiff:

Leave it in if it really means that much, then if we have a discussion on the 'best Rally Homolgation special' (BIG HINT) and it gets excluded on the grounds that its already been a hot hatch then we can fall about laughing.

Excellent. We could even start discussing the Sierra Cossie now. It had a hatch too. Oh dear, what have I done....

Being a 3 owner I think it would win also if included but went for the Commodore as an alternative. Notoriously poor steering feel on the Audi would always rule it out for me. And the over servo'd brakes.

It probably would have, but like the A4 imo it shouldn't, it's not the best regardless of value for money. I've always found the 3-series to be too tighly packed inside, there's not as much room as the competition like the mondeo and Passat. In terms of value for money, I think there's nothing better than the Mondeo, it's a good car, very good ride, good build quality, reliable and they drive well all at a good price relative to cars in their class.

and how did you come to that conclusion?

I nominate the 1.8T 180 hp seat ibiza Cupra R and the Seat Leon Cupra R. Both when chipped will eat many cars alive on the road once the front wheels have captured some grip. There are meant to be plenty 300hp and 350hp models running around on UK roads alone terrorising imprezas on roll on races.

They are phenomenal underrated and overlooked machines.

cause im a skoda whore :p

and yes there is some stupid fast seats in the uk :scared: having been at many trackdays with seat forums and had the pleasure of seeing both the fastest ibiza in the uk (bill brockbank's now over 500bhp!!) and the fast leon in scotland (around 400bhp) :)

i would also like to see best Rally Homolgation special poll

Damn I missed the discussion on this one, because if the A4 is in then the 3 series should have been (they have almost identical starting prices in the UK £20k+).

Oh well guess that's the way it goes.

Sorry man i did a mistake and post the first post 2 times, and because i couldn't erase the second and edit the first, i edit the second

No problem I will merge them together and get rid of the rest.

The reason why I nominated GTi-R was that I couldn't see the pic above my post at the time. sorry about that.

No-ones said the Escort Cosworth isn't a hatchback, it has a hatch, at the back, therefore it's a hatchback. The question mark is over if it qualifies as being a hot hatch or not. Yes the Escort Cosworth is an Escort, like you said, that's what it's called, but that doesn't mean it's based on the Escort, Ford could have called the Ford GT the Ford Focus, but that doesn't mean it would have suddenly been based on the Focus. The Escort Cosworth isn't based on an Escort, like you said, it's based on A Sierra chassis, so it's based on a Sierra 💡. It's not connected with the rest of the Escort range in anyway but name, the Escort RS Cosworth is nothing more than a holomogation special much like the Ford RS200 road cars never were (they were hatchbacks btw). By some lines of reasoning the TVR Sagaris is more of a hot hatch than the Escort Cosworth, considering it's at least based on the T series of which the Sagaris is the top model of. Is it a hatchback, yes, but so is the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, so is the TVR Sagaris, so are a lot of cars that wouldn't be considered in this poll. Is the RS Cosworth a hot hatch, personally it's teetering on the edge for me. The body style as you pointed out is clearly a hatchback and it's part of the Escort lineup, but it's not based on any other Escort within that lineup, it's a toughie. My final point is that by calling anyone who dissagrees with you a half wit your not doing yourself any favours or helping your popularity. It's not the mother of all insults sure, but insulting other members is however against the AUP.

right i must start by saying sorry for the half wit comment if it actually upset any1 but i dont really class it as an insult but then i class the escort cossie as a hot-hatch and it was also me that nominated the A4 so what would i know, as for popularity, believe it or not i dont really care whether i am or not, not being funny like but its not what i come on here for, its actually to talk to like-minded people about the things i love most CARS, so if i did offend any1 i apoligise, but anyway whoever mentioned a connection between the rs200 and escort, it wasnt me,

And also @ Toronado

Really? http://www.rsownersclub.co.uk/car_info/esc5rs2.htm
That picture under the bonnet looks pretty transverse to me.

Don't asume I mean mk2 RS2000 when I say RS2000 as it was a name also given to a mk5/6.

Don't even get me started on the RS200 except for the fact they are one of my favourite ever cars.

i dont think that pic is a 4x4 rs2000, but a 2wd which is obviously tranverse mounted, and why dont you get started about the rs200 start a new thread i'll come chat about it if im still welcome round here haha, and to YSSMAN, i know a few people that have owned or do own escort rs cosworths and im 100% sure they would agree its a hatchback, but everyone has a different opinion or we would all be the same people so i understand if it doesnt get in but if there was a homolagation special poll i dont think the escort cossie would stand a chance against the likes of the rs200 or even the rs500(which only 503 where made to my knowledge) which are both true race car classics so i wouldnt even expect the escort to make the poll against these 2, BTW the intergrale would get my second vote if i was allowed one

i dont think that pic is a 4x4 rs2000

heres the 4x4 then,transverse mounted
frontview2.jpg

the mk2 rwd rs2000 was mounted longitude

even the rs500(which only 503 where made to my knowledge

nop 504 ;)

i know a few people that have owned or do own escort rs cosworths and im 100% sure they would agree its a hatchback

As someone said (Scaff I think) no-one is arguing that it is not a hatchback. It's the use of the term hot-hatch and that it would need to be based on a lesser model which was up for debate.

The escort cosworth is not a hot-hatch, if we go down that road there will be trouble.

Im not too sure if the delta intregle is one either. I wouldnt consider a audi S3 as one nor a V6 clio so therefore I have my doubts about the lancia.

Like it was said. A hot hatch is a HATCHBACK, that has a plain jane counterpart, which has to be a HATCHBACK. Nothing else.

Actually, in America the Audi starts about $3000 cheaper than the 3-series. You can pick up a stripper A4 for a little more than $28K, while the stripper 328i starts at almost $31K.

...Thats why the Audi was let in. I'm kinda regretting it now, as it did break my rule of "no stripper luxury cars" as stated in post #1 from the nomination thread. Depending on how things turn out, we may need to do a re-vote...

...we may need to do a re-vote...
...and Include the Mazda 6. The Toyota Camry (the new one just won MT's Car of the Year). It does start at $25,000, but tops ar $28K. How about some other weirdo cars we don't get in the States, like an Opel or a Skoda?

Hold on. So. The cheapest Audi we get is the 1.8T (56,150AUD, 44,317USD, or well above the 40k limit for me), however we get the el cheapo 320i Sedan for 50,800AUD (40,085USD).

So you're getting the 2.0T for 16,000USD cheaper then we get the 1.8T! This is why these world wide polls are too hard. Because no one in their right mind down here will by a bottom of the rung 1.8 Audi, when you can get a bigger, more practical, and probably more luxurious VE SS V8 for the same price. If we got the A4 at your price, it would be much more relevant to us because it's pretty much the exact same price as the base model Commodore/Falcon.

Okay, after numerous discussions, PMs, complaints, etc, I've decided to do the following:

1) The Sedan thread will have a re-count, and the Audi will be disqualified. It doesn't meet the requirements as posted in the nomination thread (my mistake), as the A4 is just too varied to be a solid choice.

2) After speaking with other people (they know who they are), the Escort Cosworth is out, same with the Clio V6. We may be better off doing a "Racecar for the Road" special, that way the specialty models like the Cosworth, Delta, etc can make it in. Sounds good?

3) The "Hot Hatch" contest will carry on as well, and the list will include those that I missed. I'm sorry that I didn't catch them earlier.

While I otherwise agree, I'm not so sure that the Delta should be disqualified in the same reasoning as the Escort Cosworth and Clio V6 in that the Delta Intergrale was still essentially a Delta, whereas the Escort Cosworth was not essentially an Escort and the Clio V6 was not essentially an Clio.

I can totally see your point but can also see that the Integrale is like the next level and while still a Delta it is much more than just a hot hatch. They are absolutely fantastic in almost every way though. We'll see how it does in the rally car on the road poll.
