BEST New RPG Game

A lot of people like the Final Fantasy series, but I've always played the Dragon Quests(I think it was called Dragon Warriors in the states).

I don't play RPGs anymore, but if I was to buy one, I'd get the Dragon Quest!

P.S. I've seen/heard many rave reviews of "ICO", also. :)

Stay away from ff10, or that ff X2 rubbish thingy, and you'l be fine. FF 10 is utter crap.

ICO isn't an rpg, it's an adventure, but its wonderful, and worth getting anyway :).

I doubt you'll be able to find Ico anymore... look out for the sequel Wanda & The Colossus (though I believe they renamed it already).

FF10 isn't as bad as Kev is trying to say it is. It is a fun game, not as good as FF7 but worth playing. FFX-2 is trash, that is one to stay away from unless you liked the Spice girls before.

I think for the best RPG's you're at the wrong console right now, on a lot of levels the PS2 is supreme when compared to X-Box.... but with RPG's that one is the best. You have Fable on this console, and even better: Starwars: Knights of the Old Republic... and the sequel of it which I didn't play yet.

Before you yell BOOOO, Starwars is for nerds, let me remind you that I'm not a Starwars fan at all. I think the movies were entertaining, nothing more. The game is BRILLIANT though, RPG at its best. Probably the best RPG I ever played.... modern RPG anyway... because my favorites ever are still Fallout 1 and 2.

I'm an PS2 guy and never will own an Xbox(at least the current one ;)), but you might be right. Just don't forget G.T.A. They are RPGs IMO. Just not very traditional. Instead of swords, they have assault rifles. :D

Champions: Return to arms.
GREAT new RPG game for the PS2 (believe its PS2 exclusive).
Its a sequel to Champions of Norrath.

The first one was great, the second is even better.
I would definitely say this is a must buy for RPG fans. Unless you dont like "hack 'n' slash" games.

It depends what kind of RPGs you like. Good action RPGs are Champions RTA as said above, there´s a game called Legend of Kay which seems to be nice, but I had no time to play it so far. It´s Zelda style. There´s also Baldurs Gate´s games, and the classic Gauntlet (there´s a new Gauntlet game coming out this year).

If you like FF-X kind of games I recommend you to get Xenosaga I or II. Although it´s not my kind of game, my friends who like RPG love this series. There´s the LOTR RPG made by EA which I liked it, it´s playability is very similar to FF-X. Star Ocean - Till The End of Time, and Kingdom Hearts are also the RPG´s fans favorites here.

From the point of a guy who owns both machines, you really can't touch Star Wars KOTOR, it's awesome. Unlike ff10 the game play is engaging, and not just "15 minute movie sequence, run about, movie sequence, fight, repeat".

You can get Starwars KOTOR for the PC as well.... that's how I played it because I don't have an X-Box. If you don't have a good pc don't bother. I have a GeForce 4 MX440 installed as video card, and my pc reset itself every 30 minutes because of my video card overheating. :dopey: The game was well worth all the trouble though.

Yeah, I'm Japanese, but there are english versions. I've played the I, II, III on the American NES if I remember correctly. I also read about the Dragon Quest(or Dragon Warrior?) coming for the American PS2. If it's not out yet, it should be coming soon..................... then again, DQs are notorious for delays(maybe even worse the GT4 :D).

Edit:

I do have an crappy PC. It's Dells' entry model, and a couple of years old! I don't know jack about computers, but I'm guessing, if my computer was a car, it'd be comparable to '88 Escort? :D

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

I would Xenosaga Episode II! You could also try to get Xenosaga Episode I since it is cheap now. I find that Xenosaga is an RPG that is underestimated and not being looked at. The gameplay may feel a bit outdated or too similar to the typical RPGs out there, but its the story that is very MIND SUCKING! :embarrassed:

You can also wait for Final Fantasy XII! :embarrassed: That game is going to be amazingly AWESOME!!!! You should go check out some trailers! :embarrassed:

Recently got Star Ocean TEOT after beating God of War quickly... Needed a long game... Main story flows a bit slow probably cause of the long side stories but... A nice Action RPG... Can't stand turn based RPGs that much... (Couldn't play FF10 for that reason)... Turn base is better on the GBA than the PS2...

Anyways... I also have Growlancer Generations... Bah... Its hard to save a certain person in the game without taking proper steps... Pretty anoying... But the game play is pretty good (Aside from the low graphics... It is a three year old game for Japan)

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time is so cool! :embarrassed: You can chain seperate moves into neat looking combos and even do them along with other AI controlled characters.

Nel Zepher's Mirror Slice is my favorite move so far. You can do a move and then cancel it out during its animation to do another move that will add together as a combo.

Yea, the story is pretty slow in the beginning...it won't really pick up until toward the end...The storyline reminds me of the Matrix.

The new Star Ocean game seems good. I'm just having a hard time getting into the game. :indiff:

I guess its a combination of the beginning of the game being a bit dull (IMO) and I still have not gotten used to the battle system.
But still, its a RPG thats definitely worth checking out.

I love start ocean!! Great game and best rpg i've played last year. Story line was a little slow at the begining and i really hated how the it turned out like the matrix but over all it was pretty good. Definately worth playing if want to get into an rpg.

How does Star Ocean stack up to other RPG's story wise? TBH I don't know anything about the game, a quick Google search will help, but first hand info would be better.

Well... So far its a standard fare... And I don't think it will venture into any extreme zones... A typical Jpn RPG... BTW too many spoilers in this thread... But I also would stress Matrix(Haven't gone far gamewise but read about it)... Anyways... A lot of damn terms in the in-game dictionary... Its not even funny how much back information the game gives out...

I just got Star Ocean for the PS2 and you know what it's not that great. The story just sucks I mean it's almost the same thing as S.O. for the snes. Even Wild Arms 3 had a better story. I don't even bother checking the dictionary don't know why the included it. I guess they sorta ripped it off Xenosaga. I used the dictionary in Xeno a lot yes the story is that damn good. Just makes you want to look up every bit of information.

I don't know if i like the battle system yet. I think it's too crazy and the targeting sucks auto or manual. They really should've kept the battle system from the snes version. It's easier and just as fun. Most of the time spent during a fight is helping out your stupid teammates from getting killed. All they do is stand there even when the enemy is in the "lay the smack down" animation. I could just switch to another character but it'll be too late by then. Plus with all the other crap going on it's confusing.

I'm glad I only paid 20 bucks.

Maybe I should've bought Xenosaga II but I keep hearing the battle system isnt as unique as episode I but damn the story is so good who cares right? Ah I also don't like how they made Shion and the others look more mature. She doesn't have that clumsy girl look now. Chaos still looks anorexic. KOS-MOS looks like she's packing more meat on her body like she started puberty at the end of episode 1.

Well anyway I still haven't played FFX-2 I heard that's good too. I mean who doesn't want to play dress up with Yuna and friends.

Played Star Ocean PS2, played for 20 hours, returned it. Didn't like it.

Try Final Fantasy 11 if you dare to pay those fees. Its the way an RPG was meant to be played, online. Its extremly tedious though.

I just download SNES Emulators and play the GOOD rpgs. Ive had enough of this crap today. FF 9 - X2 were horrible games, and anything SE comes out with today i just hate.

Oh, one game I do like though, is Disgaea. Story aint its strong point, but if you like tactics rpgs, this is the best one out there by far.

It's hard to go back to those old 2D rpgs after playing FF,Suikoden, wild arms in 3D. Last SNES RPG i played was ToP I don't think i even finished it yet. Isn't there a simliar game out on the PS2 that's like ToP?
