Hi,

My birthday is in a few weeks, and I'm planning on finally getting a true wheel for Gran Turismo, as I heard it makes things much more enjoyable.

Price is not much of a factor, as I owned a very cheap wheel for the PS2 and it didn't work or function so well.

I have many different things to mount it to, so that shouldn't be a problem.

So, to all those who own wheels, which do you think would be the best, and why?

If price isn't an option, then without doubt the G27.

But if you want functionality, at a good price the one I have, the DFGT.

Fanatec does not make a GT5 Compatible wheel.

The best wheel on the market for GT5 is the T500rs with TH8rs shifter. Next in line G27. Then DFGT.

Edit: This is the wrong section for this question.

Where would you suggest I move it?

If price isnt an obsticle, I say T500 with the shifter also. A little over $500, but hey, I just spent that on a set of wheels for a Honda out of all cars... :guilty:

Right now I have a DFGT and its good, but, and its a big but, the pedal and wheel travel isnt smooth. Now, this wont be a big deal for beginners but once you start pushing the virtual limits of the cars you want to be as smooth as possible at the edge and that is never going to happen when your brake pressure is jumping from 60% to 65% and then you correct and it goes to 55%... Its the same with the knotchy feel of the steering, plus, the motor isnt as quick so correcting drifts isnt as fun when you have to do the work for the wheel because the wheels dont flick as quick as they should.

I think you would get more(better) input in the sim racing hardware section.👍 Most of us wheel owners look there 👍. Plus there are many reviews, tips, that might help you decide what's best.

Whatever wheel you end up getting, make sure to look at getting a wheel stand. Either buy one, since money's no object, or build one.

Having a nice T500 wheel on an ironing board isn't as fun as getting/building a proper stand for it.

honestly it really depends on how far you want to go. a dfgt will be good if your new to the wheel community, and its the one i have. if you want t go the extra mile i suggest the g27. If you dont want to go through an expensive learning curve the T500 is it.

Well, the T500 sounds nice. Although $500 might be just a bit much to be real honest.. Although I will look into a stand. Last time, I put it on a cheap table and it didn't work so well...

Does anybody have an idea of what a well priced G27 would be?

I am playing GT5 with a Fanatec CSR wheel and Pedals along with the H Shifter and it all works fine. You are right that there isn't a profile for it in GT5 but there isn't one for the G27 either. The Fanatec wheels are setup through the G25 profiles in GT5. I will admit though that the force feedback with the CSR wheel is not as good as it is in Forza. But then with the CSR you cover all platforms.

I also have a Fanatec GT3 RS V2 wheel setup with my CSR Elite pedals and they feel much better. The FFB is stronger and the load cell makes all the difference. The shifter I have an issue with sometimes with GT5 where I will miss a shift and it is difficult to get it back in gear. This was never an issue with Forza. Downside with the GT3 RS wheel is that it is not XBox360 compatible, otherwise I like it alot.

I have used the G27 and there is nothing wrong with it... but IMHO the Fanatec wheels feel better, and definitely the CSR Elite Pedals or Club Sport Pedals are much better.

If I was in the market for a wheel combination I would consider the CSR XL package with the CSR wheel, CSR Elite Pedals and 2 Shifters for $350.

I hope that GT5 adds profiles for the Fanatec wheel as well as the G27 in the near future.,

Is $350 about the overall price I could expect?

G27 already has profile in GT5.

I think that as of right now, this seems the most practical for what I'll be able to have.. The G27 is affordable and sounds reliable and well supported.

The G27 is a great wheel, my dad bought one and he loves it. You can get one on amazon for around 230$ on average. Also the G27 is fully supported by gt5. 👍👍

Fanatec makes several wheels compatible with gt5.
The fanatec clubs port base with both rims, and clubs port pedals should be the best combo you could get for gt5.
If money is no option like you say then that would be what to get. I have one and its great. I've never used it with gt5 but its great for any other game I've tried it with.

It's gotta be a G27 .. I've had mine for nearly 2 years and never had any problems with it ... It's a brilliant bit of kit for the money .. You won't regret it I promise you ..!!!

Fanatec wheels are very compatible with GT5 and work great. You have much more tuning options with fanatec wheels and calling them not compatible is a bit harsh.

So right now I'm hearing that the T500 is the best, but probably out of my range as far as price. Up next seems to be either one of the Fanatec or G27 wheel.. I may do a bit more research on these..

Honestly I would tell you to get a G27 if you don't plan on spending over $650-750 for a Thrustmaster.

The Thrustmaster is great in all but I have seen on youtube reviews there are some major problems with the Thrustmaster in the steering shaft.

Also think about it this way. A G27 plus the logitech playseat with reverse mounting brakes for your shifter is $750.

A friend of mine bought the Thrustmaster which is... Wheel and pedals = $550 shifter is another $150 which keep in mind comes sold separately + the playseat which was another $400-$500 add that up and you are over a grand already.

I mean just telling you while you are ahead.

Also watch out on amazon.com and newegg.com they usually have deals on both wheels

Bang for the buck. G27. If you want a G27 on steroids then Fanatec CSW with BMW wheel and Clubsport pedals. I used G25 for many years on GT4 then GT5 and loved it. It just works and works well. Fanatec CSW uses/emulates Logitech's drivers to power it for GT5 and it takes that game to a whole new level. To boot they updated the firmware so it now has LED rev functionality.
The main issue is price. Kind of hard to swallow $1000 for a wheel combo and pedals for GT5, but I have yet to regret it. :-)

t500 costs 270 somewhere. Here it is 399.

US Dollars?

Also I would like to add If you don't buy the shifter for the Thrustmaster you end up with a super DFGT in my opinion

T5OORS is less then 399USD over here. Offers much more bang for buck than my g27. However thrustmaster use their own drivers and dont emulate the logitech wheels so for console compability logitech is best followed by fanatec where you can compensate quite a bit with the osd interface. That is if you use othergames than GT5 of course.

I havent read any about any steering axle problem on the t500rs???

T500RS all day long,it blows the competition out of the water particularly in GT5,have had this wheel since launch and not a bit of trouble with it,added TH8RS to it once it launched and it simply makes GT5 such a better game.Have had logitechs, used fanatecs but both pale in comparison to T500RS,yes it is expensive but in my opinion well worth the extra dollars as it is a game changer :-) Have since moved on to iRacing and it just confirmed I made the right call when purchasing the T500RS although you will definitely need a sturdy table to mount it to if you want to truly appreciated it as makeshift setup just won't work regardless of which wheel you go with :-)

If you go for value/money, take the Fanatec CSR value pack XL for 359$
In case money doesn't matter, Fanatec CSW and Clubsport pedals.
The T500 is a great wheel, but imo Fanatec is more value for money at the same performance or even better.

From what I've read, the biggest upgrade that you can make for sim racing is a load cell brake. The T500RS doesn't have a load cell brake. The CSR value pack mentioned above is probably the most cost effective way to get a load cell brake since the CSR elite pedals are load cell brakes. The clubsport pedals have load cell brakes. There is someone developing a load cell brake mod for the T500RS but that won't be cheap. The perfect pedal is a load cell mod for G27 and G25 pedals but it costs $250 just for the pedal.

I have a G25 with a cheap nixim mod in the brake pedal. It's been really good but I'd like to upgrade to a load cell brake.
