biggest disappointments

Yea rallys got ruined just because of the 5 second penalty rule,I loved rallys in gt3 they were so fun but now the fricken 5 sec penalty ruined it.If I try to pass a car , I will somtimes bump into him on accident wich can ruin my race just because I wanted to pass him!!Its so dumb,I like the fact its supposed to stop cheating but it needs improvement.

the AI doesnt know how to race very well. its rare that i can have a good race with them. thats what the problem with the AI is.

The funny thing about the 5 second penalty is that it works where it shouldn't, and doesn't work where it should... :dunce:

By the time I was about halfway through the Special Conditions hall, I was so sick of it that I started using the wall to take the corners. "How did you avoid the penalty?!" you ask? If the rear end of your car hits the wall, or if you slide along the wall gently enough, instead of just banging into it, the game doesn't penalize you. It's only if the front end hits the wall hard.... :sly:

Finished the rest of the hall without much effort at all. It was still really time-consuming, though...

That is exactly what i did for most of the hard level races. if you get a tiny dent in those your car dies. it sucks the royal goat nuts. :grumpy: 👎

so yeah just slide the tail on the wall and you'll be fine. 👍

I did some of that on the ice arenas, but, in Umbria-hard, is....:scared:
I was born in Umbria and believe me, there's no way you can drive through those streets over 30kmh. and not hit something :indiff:

In the early times when the first videos and pictures were uploaded to ign.com, I saw a Nismo 400r driving against Toyota Celica at the Las Vegas drag strip, so I thought that it would be nice to race against my friend on that track, but it was a disappointment that PD didn't make it possible.
The other thing is that the multiplayer mode sucks because of the handicap what the
other player gets when about to lose. For example if you're racing at test course against some other player with a slower car. You drive a speed of 320 km/h and the other player drives like 290 km/h and still stays on your back but only when you are driving far ahead. I hope that you know what I mean because I'm not very good to explain things in English. I'm Finnish.

my biggest dissapointments were engine sounds and stuff like the dump valve when u fully mod a skyline or nefin with a turbo it always has a wastegate to deal with boost pressures but all you get is some pissly like whoosh you have to strain to hear. the amount of cars they have is good like i found my dads subaru impreza sti prodrive model 01' on there and i was over the moon but they really need to sort out engines and the amount you can mod is sooo limited. also they should have more totally mental cars like the hks 1200 bhp skyline which i remember was in gt 2 or norris designs evos if anyone here lives in the uk ?

something i'd like is to be able to buy indevidual parts. if i just want to buy a set of cams and a header why do i need to pay upwards of $11,000 for a level two engine? if i'm only looking for a 15 hp increas why do i want to buy a kit that will give 60? some cars only need a set of cams to make it feel right without being overpowered. need for speed underground 2 was great for this. i really liked how i could put different combos of parts on a car and then dyno tune them to work together. gt4 needs that. badly.

The A.I. definately could have used improvements. Not that they arent good drivers, just that they have no clue that you are on the track at all. When they try pass you they will just drive right into you with out even trying to swerve, that annoyed me the most.

I won't mention the AI since we all know that it sucks very badly. But the thing about GT4 that disappoints me is that it doesn't feel as fresh and new as GT3 did compared to GT2. Its just more of the same. Also, the GT mode is fun, but after you finish all the races that you want to race in, there's the ridiculous amount of boring manufacturer specific races that you have to complete.

I'll mention just a few, otherwise, i'll be here all day :indiff:

The stupid little spinning clock thing, rather than a loading window like in "save"\\ there should be a "home/garage/save" "shorcut" in every race, so i don't have to wait for that stupid little clock for 1 hr before i can get back in race\\ why cursor appears on a different race when i exit\\why the need to click on so many "ok"\\ why upgrades icons are lit if nothing available\\ if normal tires are free, why not have them already available\\ why not give cars a race compatibility code, so i don't have to wait for that stupid little clock an hour, only to find out i can't use that car\\ why make some races & missions so 🤬 hard and some so boringly easy\\ why i get penalties in "Special Cond" when the AI hits me and the AI never does, even if it hits the walls over&over\\ what's the point of the ...points\\ why not show the points avilable, before entering the race/add/remove upgrades\\ why not have "shortcuts" to a list of grids to choose from, or even be able to choose the cars individually, so i don't have to wait for that stupid little clock for 3 hrs\\ why not have a "save" feature on "enduros" on pit stop, or anytime, so i don't have to leave the console on hold for 10 hrs or more(as if)\\ why on pit stops, i can't change tires to "sports" when possible or even add/remove upgrades\\ a paint shop would've been nice\\ what's the point of awarding cars i can't race with\\ why i can't change to different tires on the F1\\ why no "qualifying" option on most races\\ why not include the "ghost" option on all the 🤬 missions?\\why not make use of the pointless points, like being able to redeem a certain ammount, in order to make the hard 🤬 missions, a little easier, or be able to redeem points, so we may have another way to acquire the Toyota-7 or other cars  \\why not award one of the cars on the grid, at least we know what we're getting\\ why does the "BS-bs" driver smacks into the rear of every 🤬 car 2/3 times, before it attempts to pass on the outside, only to be pushed out into the sand/grass, is that how you drive, PD?👎 \\ why there's no tire condition viewable on the other cars?\\ why ......why.......why.........

Die-ah-zzzu Midget race? Zzzzzz and not an all "Fiat 500" race? 👎

One thing is sure, i will not buy GT5 if i hear more than 2 specific complaints and,
i don't mean like: this game sucks!! That would be a definite no no!
Some people just get too greedy for making too much $$$ without delivering an acceptable product. Shame on you PD 👎 !

i'll edit this in time :indiff: got things to do ...

I've been playing GT since it first came out and I truly believe that GT2 was the best of the series simply because it was a quick, agressively competitive game. All of the cars were very unique, authentic, and wickedly customizable. Not to mention that purchasing a race car from the dealership was easily affordable because the price was fair and there was a quick race that you could do to win a car worth $500,000 dollars that you could sell 3-4 times to get a seasoned performer.

GT4 is way to complicated and too long. I'm about three fourths of the way done with it and I'm so bored that I haven't played the game in months. Like GT3 there is a regurgitation of the same race cars from GT2 and the race cars that are for sale are almost three times the mark up - and eventhough there is a "cheat race" to get quick money you have to run that race a ridiculous amount of times to buy a 10 or 20 million doallar race car. After you get the car and do your customization it has wiped out your bankroll. The series races are so hypnotizingly manotinous and running against the same cars and the same tracks over and over that after you complete the race you've won a crap car makes even a die hard car enthusiast want to chunk the game in the corner.

PD go back to your GT2 formula, shorten the races up, there are a ton of different race cars from LeMans series to Grand AM series that can be modeled and offered as prize cars, loose the penalty system, offer prize cars that are not repeititive, increase the prize monies and adjust the car prices, and lastly when you become overly technical and analytical with a game it detracts from its entertainment - if we really wanted to be race car drivers or own a team then we'll give you a call for consultation. Until then keep it a game.

The biggest dissapointment for me is the inclusion of cars that no self respecting driver would ever punt around a track....Toyota Pruis or Honda Odessy for example..ffs:yuck: , they could have put in the E39 M5 and the 89 M6 or the BMW M1, you look in the BMW classic and you have two cars...what about the other models that make BMW what they are (Dont get me wrong i am finally glad we have some Bimmers)

I thought this game was about driving, if i want to go for a spin in a Prius( ), i will go to budget and hire the POS.

lame cars that i would never waste my time driving.. thats my biggest dissapointment. 👎

DJ-CiviC
That could be interesting 👍

it was... every GT previous had a "normal car race" ... they stole it from us for this one. :indiff:

so far 90% of what's in this thread is the fault of the ps2 and nothing more.
If you want pretty graphics, you have to make a few cuts.
Have you noticed that the physics are different in TT and race conditions?
thats because the ps2 can't handle rendering the world and doing rapid calculations for 6 cars, and trying to find some spare cycles to plod the AI around the track.
It takes ALOT of computing power to do a quality racing game. Way more than any other genre (well, flight sims are probably more taxing, which would explain the lack of a combat flight simulator with the level of realism of MS Flight Sim)
some of you really need to take a step back and see the real limitations of a console as old as the ps2. Take a look at PC's; computing power has tripled since the ps2 came out. And video cards have probably accelerated by around 10 fold. Gt4 is pretty much as good as the ps2 can do.

Griping about bugs etc... is fair game though... there is no excuse for that screen jitter, and PD still has no idea how to design a UI.
But really the only thing I can call a "disapointment" is the lack of online play.

the reason the Prius is in the game cause it pwns j00!!! and its g0 li3k 10" rimms j00!!! BMW g0t n0th1iNg 0n ToYoTa!!! suuuuuuuup! :dopey: 💡

o and Honda Odsessys are a great driver frankly you need to take out some Skylines or MX5's frankly BMW's to me just suck 👎

I hope you didn't intend for this to excuse PD for making a ****ty game... :) 'Cause it seems more like you've explained how PD exercises poor resource management. Enthusia (also for the PS2) features better physics (both more realistic and more enjoyable), better A.I., good graphics, and the same number of cars in races. Enthusia also has rainfall on one of its wet courses (the other wet course trades rainfall for having 6 cars on the field), headlights that actually project onto the ground, and various reflections and other special effects that PD missed. Seems Konami has a better idea of how to use the PS2's capabilities. Now, if only they (Konami) would have focused more attention on menu and gameplay design... :indiff:

Dr_Watson

Agreed. :yuck:

Well, comparing GT4 to Enthusia,

Im dissapointed by:

-the sounds. the cars all sound very much alike. Enthusia rocks in this aspect.

-slow speed physics. Why the hell can't we do donuts?

-grip. it just doesn't seem right to me when you cannot spin the rear of an FR car and slide even when you have enormous power. And when you do, its not realistic at all, while in enthusia, some cars just behave like they have a separate steering at the back wanting to go sideways.

All these are not a problem when I 1st played GT4...i never even thought much about it..

Until I got enthusia.......after that, GT4 just doesn't work anymore. Hence my comparison of GT4 to enthusia. Enthusia completely changed my experience of GT4. :nervous:

And oh...pardon me for going a little off topic, but I can use my black momo wheel(for PC only) with enthusia! And that beats playing GT4 wth DS2 too!

End of my rant.....sorry if it was a little off topic.

There are a lot of great things about GT4, and a few little gripes that tick me off. But there's one fault with this game that is astonishingly stupid:

Cars that you can't race (Caterham, Auto Union C-type, 1886 carriages, et cetera).

After all, this is supposed to be a racing game, not just a driving game.

I'll be disapointed if nothing will be done to the car sounds, and tire sounds of GT4 in the future. GT5 should have better sounds cause they suck in GT4.

Big disapointment!

Edit: Why is this a big disapointment? In real life, if u own a car that drives like a Pagani Zonda but sounds like a grass mower, you will feel very depressed:crazy:

I agree with the sound complaints, especially about Enthusia having excellent sounds... 👍

A friend of mine recently acquired a 1990 Toyota Cressida (a.k.a. Mark II), and the 3rd-gen Supra 3.0 (available in GT4) has the same engine.

The Cressida sounds throaty and neat. The GT4 Supra sounds like a Honda.

I rarely ever reply or put my opinions in print but..... I am a complete GT fan... have been for many years.... my disappointment with GT4 was the real let down that I had to wait YEARS for what ends up being a modest evolution from GT3. It just seems like so much time had gone by since the release of GT3. I like GT4... it's fun, but man..... it seems like they would have moved the game along a lot more then they did.... remember.... YEARS to bring us GT4.

Bryan M

the opponents should not only drive like they know you exist but also drive...better. i dont want a challenging race to be where i need 200hp less so i can waste them on the turns but then they pass me on the straight. make it so everyone has the exact same car yet its extremely challenging. regular races should be more challenging in this realistic sense.

For the average 15 year old gamer (me) this is the first GT i've owned, and i am truely astonished by it. I dont look into everything in detail, i dont go mad at an engine not sounding right, or anything of the like. I jus enjoy the game for what it is.

My biggest dissapointment would be NO ONLINE!!! ...before GT4 came out they were all about Online this, and online that....next thing you know...its not in there. and when is the online version gonna come out??? wasnt it suppose to be out by now??? and

...a few more things to @ITCH about GT4:

1. The Sound is not Perfect, but could be better.
2. Online Mode (again with the online thingy)
3. AI (The last time I had a great race was with my cousin, so fun when u both are good at the game, makes for really good racing!)
4. Rome Circuit (this is more personal, i really liked that track in GT3).
