So, after seeing the pic of this car,

what do all the dieselphobics out there make of diesel cars in GT4!?

The fact that some diesels out perform their petrol equivelents the 120d included makes it a good move. They arn't as loud as people think they are, old diesels are loud, most new ones arn't that bad.

Hey,

I don't include myself in that lot.

I happen to own a Leon TDi (110hp) with which I'm quite happy.
actually I'd like to have also some front drive diesel cars - not necessarily a Leon:) - to have the chance of drving something similar to my car in the game.

I think so (though i didn't play the 1st and 2nd installements).

It's funny how recently someone joked about one of the many lists for GT$ having, I think, a Golf TDi...

I can't see what's funny about diesels at all to be honest, especially hatches. The torque output on the diesel golf is rediculously higher than the petrol. I'm all for diesels in GT4, hope they include more than just the 1 series :)

Don't diesels get better mileage than normal gas cars? If so, that could play a factor in GT4 if fuel consumption is added in.

I keep saying they don't make any sense at all.

Hmmm. I'd prefer a petrol over a diesel 99% of the time, but i still love going for a drive in my dad's 3.0 diesel 5 series BMW. The acceleration is unbelievable. And yes the fuel consumption is very low. So they make sense to me :)

But most diesels, even nowadays, do sound pretty nasty imo.

Also, diesel is cheaper than gasoline.

There aren't enough diesels. Aside from some old Mercedes', I don't often see any diesel cars running the streets.

The main thing diesel has going against it is the pollution I believe, but otherwise yes it has a few advantages over petrol.

And have you ever felt the acceleration of a 3.0 Otto engine...? Turbocharged...? ;)

Anyway, the only advantage of a Diesel over an Otto is the fuel consumption. Nothing more!

And even if GT4 throws fuel consumption into the equation in some races, it doesn't justify the appearence of a 120d or whatever "D" in my opinion.

Oh, and come on! We want great races, fun, and interesting cars.

Do you all drive your cars (or play your racing games for that matter) always in top gear and partial accelerator because of fuel consumption...? More, in a race?? I don't think so...

Anyway, I rest my case. :)

You shouldn't have to do that if you have enough fuel - the above scenario only happens when you miscalculate and need to coast for a lap or so.

There are alot of diesel engines that are faster, e.g the new BMW 535d, lets see a petrol engine have 30mpg in town, 40mpg combined and 50mpg on motorway and still do 0-60 in 6 seconds and over 160mph? No i didnt think and engine like that exists. Also diesels are much easier to drive round town and country roads or just about anywhere because of the 600nm of low down torque, but they still manage to get 270bhp.

They don't, but it's the type of pollution they produce, specifically very carcinogenic particulates, which lodge in lungs and cause all sorts of nasty cancers. It's less of an issue for cars, since they use a lot less fuel, but for trucks and trains, it's a problem.

Rui G? Hello there. :)

I think it will be interesting to see how they simulate the characteristics of a diesel engine.

Speaking of diesels, the MB C30 Coupe AMG wold be fun to have in the game.

All modern diesels have problems with eliminating the smallest nano particles which is by some seen as a bigger problem then the older diesel engines which produced bigger particles.

The large amount of nano particles is very unhealthy since they travel much farther into the lung, all the way into the alveols.

Here the diesels are almost out-taxed because of this.

You obviously don't live in Europe!
In Spain, for example, diesel cars sales have long outnumbered petrol cars sales...

Diesels are obsolete, even these new generation european diesel engines, the rest of the world is moving towards hybrid cars which offer more power, less pollution and less consumption. Go to Japan and you will see that despite fuel prices being similar to europe, everybody drives normal gasoline cars! Not like europeans who are too cheap and compromise their driving experience for 20cents a litre less.

A majority in the UK still drive petrol cars.

Heres some perspective with US vs UK:

My brothers mates dad owned a Ford Sierra 2.0litre petrol this costs just as much to run in fuel as his 7/8 litre Caddliac 'lump' in the US. Ridiculous! Whats even more ridiculous is the UK has some of the cheapest oil prices in the world yet thanks to crap tax petrol price is the highest in Europe I believe.

Something else you've got to consider is in Japan extremely compact cars are popular which explains why they don't use as much diesel since there cars have smaller capacities so price isn't as much of a problem.

In France about 60% of sold cars are diesels. The rest (40%) is petrol, LPG or electric.
No GTi car from the 80's (Peugeot 205, VW Golf...) would compare with one of today's common rail turbo diesel car.
I think this would be a good idea to include diesel cars in GT4. The BMW 330d for example, or Peugeot 406 Hdi, Ford Focus Tdci 110, VW Golf Tdi 130, Audi A4 V6 Tdi...

I spotted a Polo TDi PD being engine tested from photos in EVO magazine. The BMW 120d is a pretty poor diesel though, I would much rather the 330d, VW Golf TDi 150 or others.

Except that diesel is 1p per litre more expensive than 95RON Unleaded.

Way to generalise, geni-ass.

Ah yes, the french fry oil mobiles. They get a whopping 29hp to lug ya around.

Do you want to tease me or are you just plain stupid??

The 535d is faster than what?!?

Whats 270bhp for a 3.0-litre turbocharged engine? That is ridicolous, don't you get it??

And I've said all about fuel consumption! That's the only thing that Diesels are better at.

Stop beeing naif please...
