Ahh good to know.

Betnley won what? The 2003 edition of LeMans?

Also anyone know why BMW pulled the LMR V12 from racing the following year?

And, side-topic, is the BMW McLaren F1 in the game the same car that dominated LeMans by finishing in 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th? Or is this a later year?

1) Yep they won in 2003.
2) I dunno, someone else may know the answer.
3) The McLaren F1 in GT4 is the nicknamed "Long Tail" version from 1997 featuring the extended rear-end for improved aero. The McLaren that dominated Le Mans was in 1995 and is the normal "GTR" which was directly based off the road car.

Hun200kmh
the Mercedes team retired from the race because their cars were flying all over the track (literally, LOL)

Hehe was that when their cars front end lifted up and then 'cause of the speed it backflipped?

BMW stopped racing at Le Mans because they had their new F1 project with Williams in 2000, and could not afford to compete in 2 different racing programs.
I have to add also that the chassis of the V12 LMR was concepted and build with Williams.

As for the Mac Laren in the Game, they finished 2nd and 3rd in the 1997 LM edition, won by a TWR Porshe. The number 42 in the game did not finish the race. Like dezcom said, the Mac Laren that dominated 1995 was the original GTR.

To add something to the Bentley topic, don't forget that Bentley and Audi are part of VAG Group. That's why there were no Audis in the 2003 edition won by Bentley. Marketing Strategy.

I've got the Black 787B, Kicked but and La Sarthe II, Won the Bentley Speed 8, Then Bought the BMW V12 LMR. I believe these 3 are the best LM cars in the Game. The R8 is admittedly awesome, but I just prefer the BMW. My main test for these type of cars is to run them at the Nurburgring. In the 787B the best I got was 5:40, In the Bentley 5:25, In the BMW 5:27. These times were achieved w/ out any turbo upgrades, just oil and wash. I'd say most I my time playing this game is spent taking laps around the ring, it never seems to get old. I haven't gotten an F1 car yet, but I've heard they aren't as fast at the ring anyway. Plus I'm not ready to race the Nurb 24h just yet.

Bye the way, does anybody know I the driver of the AMG Mercedes CLK GTR made it out alive? The one where he flipped numerous times then landed off course.

He was unharmed! I think it was Peter Dumbreck in that car. The other Merc was driven by Mark Webber (!) and also had a high speed accident. Only a spin though.

Ok, I sincerely doubt you got around the ring in 5:27 with a BMW V12 LMR with just Oil changes.

And I espcially doubt your 787B times.

You wish pal.

Do you have any proof you did that with a car like V12 LMR with just an oil change? Or even the used 787B?

I doubt you do.

OMG I know that Peter Dumbreck, he's one unfortunate fella: I once went to a DTM race with my dad and uncle, at zandvoort, if anyone remembers, he crashed AWFULLY HARD into the wall at the last corner. I believe he didn't walk out from there as easily.

In response to McLaren, I have a digital camera, however I've never posted pictures on this forum. If you could tell me I can take pics.

Mark Webbers car also flipped as well, this occured three times before MB finally had the good sense to 'retire' the cars.

What the hell did you smoke this morning?. The Minolta is great if you set it up correctly. Extremely fast, handles great, brakes aren't too bad. Its all a matter of how you've got the car set up.

and how you drive your car

Yeah, the Minolta is indeed fast, but really, who thinks of toyota as a performance oriented car company? That's kinda like Pontiac now competing with Lexus, Porsche, BMW, in that Daytona racing league. Its just an effort to establish some auto performance credibility, while in no way influencing their real product. That's why I preffer the BMW, Audi, Merc, Bentley, Nissan, Mazda etc. Yeah, toyota has had the supra, and MR cars, but they've also had the Avalon and Camry. The celica sucks, and will be outsold by the Scion tC which is cool. I guess I'm somewhat biased, but for good reason.

If the Celica is outsold by the tC, Toyota won't give a crap.
Why?
Scion belongs to Toyota.

No kidding. My god, I had no idea that Scion was owned by toyota. That must be the best kept secret in the automotive industry. Thank you oh so much for correcting me, I obviously had no idea. . .really . I had no idea the the 2.4L engine in the Scion tC was the same one that is in the base Toyota Camry. I had no idea the tC rode on the same size tires as the Lexus IS300. OMG, DON'T TELL ME THAT LEXUS IS OWNED BY TOYOTA TOO!!!, NOOOOO WAAAAAY

Well alright, The best I could do tonite on the Nurburgringwas 5:29 for both the Bentley Speed 8 and the BMW V12 LMR. However, I got better than before with my Black Mazda 787B with a 5:34. And Yes all with just an oil change and wash. The Mazda had a stiffening refreshment. None with engine power augmenting upgrades.

Here are the times:

This shows that I haven't even purchased the turbo upgrade for the BMW V12, and that It has 839HP:

Here's the 787B that I used w/ 790HP, in setup screen it says 801HP:

Sorry I didn't get the 5:25 and 5:27 as promised with the Bentley and BMW, Getting a perfect run on the Ring is challenging as I'm sure you know. When I get those times, I'll post those too.

:D

My first LMP was an Audi R8, bought specially for the World Championship. Though to be different, I chose the silver and yellow #2 Audi as opposed to the silver and red #1.

Planning to buy a 2004 Pescarolo soon, and then probably the BMW, Peugeot ans 2003 Pescarolo, as well as winning the others (if I ever get around to them).

I'm saving up right now to get this car. I've noticed not a lot of people use this car.

Is this car that bad when compared to other LM cars like the R8, Playstation Car, GT-1, 787b, etc.?

Anyone use this car with a lot of success?

I just finished the Fuji 1000K driving a Tuned NA Stage 3 BMW McClaren F1 LM car. One of the AI opponents was the BMW V12. I had no trouble blowing past him lap after lap, but had a great deal of difficulty keeping up with the Nissan R92 and R89 in the race. Tells me that it is not one of the stronger cars available. (BTW, I could go faster than the 787b but couldn't beat it because it seems to never stops for tires)!

Of course, the AI drivers never use the cars to their fullest potential. Judging the performance of a car based on AI driver place in the race proves nothing. The BMW V12 LMR has one of the best power bands of all the LM cars. It doesn't use turbos, Just a big V12 engine, which means no turbo lag, and more grunt lower in the rpm range too. It even revs higher than the Bentley Speed 8. I do admit that at high speeds you have to drive it differently to compensate for slight understeer, campared with the Bentley. However, the BMW has more straight line speed, and can exit corners faster. Thats why my Nurb ring lap times are so close. I was impressed when I looked at the best lap times for the ring on these forums, that only 2 people could match my times without getting HP upgrades for their car. It will be interesting to see how my times improve when I start to use upgrades :D .

Another point to be made is that at the Nurburgring, More Horsepower won't always translate into faster times. My times on page 4 of this thread are evidence of this. Knowing which parts of that track can be taken flat out is crucial. In many cases on the ring, just lifting off the gas for a second before a high speed turn, to change the suspesion load, can make all the difference.

OK, I believe you 356C. You've proven me wrong, and I accept that.
I'm was doubtful since alot of the times for the 'Ring sounded untrue.
But I apologize for my incompetence. :)

Nice times. 👍

This is my top LMP cars:

1.Audi R8 (incredible power, pulling 370 km/h+ in stock form on la sarthe)
2.Pescarolo-Judd C60
3.Bentley Speed 8
4.Toyota GT-one(clearly the one with the best brakes)
5.BMW V12 LMR

Im not even close to as good as the best GTP drivers and with 2 laps in the LMR V12 I was able to put in a clean 5'32.5 (taking my time as to be clean!).

Also, you've gotta remember that in GT mode people submtting database times usually run full mod racers and not the stock version.
It's taking advantage of the car's full potential in most cases.
(Hell, I can garuntee you that my fully modified LMR time would easily beat my un-modified LMR lap)

A good way to find out where you stand would be to go here.

The Weekly Race Series is where you will find most of the great drivers from the gtp.
You might also find a few in the spot race forum. ;)

Now regarding the LMR V12...

I really liked this car and actually went out of my way to make it the first 4.5 million Cr car I bought.
The handling really isn't all that bad, and one plus to the GT mode is that you can tune the suspension, which manages to take out most of the problems easily.

As mentioned before, the power band is excellent and with no tuning the LMR is still capable of producing throttle oversteer.
Simply letting off the gas for one sec and then jumping back on it will give you enough pull to get around any turn.

The Arcade Mode version of this car shines even brighter.
After spending a bunch of time with it to work on a nuremburg lap a few weeks ago I found out some interesting things about the car.

For one, the top speed adjustment can go as high as 480kph.
It might not ever go that high, but being able to space out the gears that far could make a difference on tracks like La Sarthe II (especially when you consider that cars like the Audi R8 only run the top speed adjustment to 420kph).

Top speed in the LMR is awesome... Often times it feels far more stable at high speed than many of its LMP counter-parts.

Plain and simple, the LMR V12 is one of my favorite cars in the game. 👍

However, just for the sake of making a little list. ;)

1) Audi R8
2) BMW LMR V12
3) Pescarolo Judd V10
4) Sauber C9
5) Bentley Speed 8

That is not my overall favs though.
Just the favs for this discussion... Otherwise my McLaren F1 would certainly be on the list. :trouble:

I didn't know that any of the cars in the game were limited by their gearing. Although the auto tune bar top out at 25, you can always modify the Final Drive ratio. Is there something I'm missing?

Yes,

Arcade Mode!

When I review cars it is usually a with a mix of arcade mode and GT mode.

Some cars are well balanced for both modes and deserve credit for that.
Others do poorly in one but accel in the other.

Take the BMW V12 LMR for example.

In GT Mode it can be one of the best cars in the game thanks to all the things mentioned in my previous post.

However, in arcade mode it suffers from handling that is not exactly up to par with the rest of the LMPs.

With that in mind, just like I said... I look at all angles when reviewing a car. ;)

Nice to see this thread is still alive.

My favorite LM car is still the BMW followed by the Pescarolo.

For pure driving enjoyment though I like the McLaren F1 GTR even though it cant; compete with the other LM's.

One note though, my handling seriously deteriorated for a while then I finally figured out that I needed to do a body refresher on the car.
