Body modding, custom tuning and GT5...

The idea is not to segregate factory body form from the modified. But to have a balance in ranking system which one for example, would add a different category of performance parts oppose to aero, thus making the cars equal in competitiveness. A Forza scenario: the class limit is 400pts, you have 390. You want to add an aero kit which would add 10pts to your 390, and thats puts you at your limit. But other options available consist of stage one ignition, DOT spec tires, or a semi-racing exahust perhaps which also may add 10pts. Another person may choose to add a part that benefits the maximum out put of his/her vehicle, thus everyone has there advantages and disadvantages. So its not hard to understand that enhanced aerodynamics wont make the vehicle better than another without.

Ahh right, I get you. Yes I agree that the balance for performance points need to be right. There shouldn't be any mods mechanical or aero that offer a better performance increase for your points increase ratio to other parts. It should all be relatively even across all the parts based on the potential performance increase of each part.

Looks like a basic '68 Charger , with exception of wheels : don't be fooled

resto-modding would be real cool , ( old car , modern day drivetrain )

Engine swap's, would like them in GT.

A 13B rotary E46 would be nice. Or a 1JZ but thats been done to many time's.

I am all for customization from add on parts to very detailed paint schemes. I know in GT4 there is a vast number of people who spend a lot of time with photo mode. Does options like this take away from the core of the game? I believe not, on the contrary it gives users another way to enjoy and preserve their time spent with the game. So I say anything that can enhance these capabilities should be welcome with open arms. My first wish for GT5 has been granted with more cars on the track. I am fairly confident that "R"-mods in some type of format and at least a basic paint shop will be granted also.

Perhaps as a compromise for those that want to limit the custom paint jobs etc. and also to perhaps work better with the Automakers. Customer paint jobs could be limited to race modified cars only rather it be a stock production car tuned to be entry level road racer or full fledge race car.

In GT5 it would be brilliant if u could download different vinyls based on real world cars:
For instance- instead of having lots of NASCAR's in the game to start off with you can just download different liveries from three base models: Toyota, Chev and Ford.
You could also do this with V8 Supercars, BTCC, WRC and whatever else there is.

Yes. Why?
I simply don't care what other people's cars look like. We all know that it's impossible for PD to include every car in the game. But that's where the visual customization comes in.

We can take a stock car, say a BMW M3. We find out that they didn't add your favorite car, say the new BMW M3 GTR Race Car. Oh no! BUT! No worries! You can take that car, use visual customization, and bam! +1 to the car list count on GT5. Or an Aston Martin DBR9. Great, its not in the game, but I can take a stock DB9, and customize it as best as I can to turn it into one of my favorite cars.

Who cares about ricers and tuners in races? This is a good reason why we can use private rooms.

Cool thing about Polyphony is they are willing to place custom one-off cars in the game. Hard to say how much custom stuff they will allow you to add. It would be a new step, and something no game has really offered to date.

The only difference is that they up until now chose which custom one-off was suitable to be put into the game, whether they will allow us to create true custom cars or at least noticable visual customization ( apart from some wings and rims ) depends on which features will be in ( we don't know yet ) and the amount of freedom/creativity they will allow us ( also unknown ).
Would be great if these options were included ( even to a limited degree ) although a lot worry, especially combined with online abilty to show those modded cars to others, it will turn into a car freak show with all sorts of questionable mods spoiling at least the visual aspect of GT5.
I don't worry about this, although it will undoubtedly happen, because the pro's definitely outweigh the cons at least in my opinion.:)

I am all for customization in GT5. We'll see one, and it'll be grounded in reality.

- Keep the letter grade car class system out of Gran Turismo. The point system in prologue is fine.

- GT does not need drivetrain conversions. I have seen the problems Forza 3 has due to that.

Drivetrain conversions as fine, as are engine swaps and neither are unrealistic. The problem with Forza 3 isn't that it lets you do thoes things, it's that effect of doing them isn't accurate. If a car is built ground up as a FR sportscar then converting it to 4wd will not be a: cheap and b: instantly offer a performance increase if at all. In Forza 3 you can take a Dodge Viper, give it 4wd and it's instantly a faster car on a track. That simply wouldn't be the case in real life, the car is built and balanced to be rear wheel drive only. Forza 3's pproblem is that the pro's and cons of doing drivetrain swaps and engine swaps seem to be based on too general a formula and don't seem to take the car your converting into account. With a better formula and more of an influence from the car being converted taken into account then engine and drivetrain swaps would be a great feature.

Personally i'd have a S2 Jaguar XJ12C v12.The engine would have all upgraded internals, quad race cams, 60 valves with a capacity of about 8.5L.Plus the g'box from maybe a Viper or Lister Storm.Plus all other upgraded driveline parts.Strengthened shell, full roll cage & with Broadspeed bodykits & exact size B/S rims.Single side exit race exhaust, each side ( front of rear wheels ).Inboard racing fuel tanks & other things are to much to list.

I hope that there isn't alot of problems between the car manufacturers and the game producers. I hear some companies won't allow body kits or modding for the car they are giving the licensing for.

*cough cough* Ferrari *cough cough*

To be honest with you I would like to take some battered old Nissan Silvia and turn it into a fully blown race car. In which case I would DESPERATELY want a livery editor!

I would love to do anything, Kaz before mentioned you can place any engine to any car. So if its true. I would place a 6.2 mercedes benz eninge into a 300zx, or some toyota corolla.

I think we will get customization that it more advanced then in GT4..
Even if it is not something that Kaz might feel needs to be in the game, I think Sony might push for it as part of their "Play, Create, Share" Marketing Program.

I'd like bodymodding in GT5, change frontbumper/skirts/rears wings etc.

Preferably licensed, but do not have to be since it can look like the actual stuff with a minor design change..

and NO i dont mean bodykitting a ford fiesta or anything stupid like that but like for an example the gran turismo tuned vehichles in GT5P, that would be awesome! :)

I wouldn't mind street racer like modified machines. In the end, purpose built race cars will generally dominate. Why not allow for some creativity. Don't like their car? Put them in their place and be first across the line.

Bee
Hmmmmm to some extent maybe its a good idea, but then it would just take out the "Real driving simulator" part.

Do you see championships with tuned up cars by their drivers on proper race circuits? No.

Nice idea but I don't think it would work in a GT game. Stick to NFSU.

That is true but you should be able to make a custom livery and put a body kit on you're ride like there are in real world racing

Yeah I think there should be some more body modifications included, but not to the extent of NFS or anything like that. When it comes down to it, it really is only cosmetic, and thats not what GT is really about IMO. I would much rather have MOST other functions over body/paint/sticker/neons. If your spending 10hours putting neons, stickers and paint jobs on you cars your gonna get dominated on the track by me whos put that time into fine tuning the suspension and drivetrain of my car.

Maybe PD should get the rights to remake this game.... afterall it was a PS exclusive after the dreamcast died...this would be the GT5 of street racing. This was actually the 1st street racing game to feature tuner cars wayyyy before NFS came out with underground.

Yeah Tokyo Extreme deserves a make over in my opinion also. GT5 could use thier customization characteristics also, they were never too off the wall or extreme IMO (I could stand the GT sticking to it's wheels, race mod, spoilers modifications though). I wonder if anyone will ever make a realistic street driving game though, thanks Tomaz now you got me dreaming.
