Body modding, custom tuning and GT5...

since custom performance tuning is already in gt4, i think body modding would be an awesome idea. NFS is kind of like that, but all my cars look like poo unless they're pre-tuned. BODY MODS ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like body modding to extreme levels simply because it's too Need For Speed-ish and I think that there must be a separation between the two game genres. I don't play Gran Turismo for unrecognizable tricked out show ponies, I much prefer NFS for that (yes I do play NFS).

There is such a thing as "Trying too hard" and if Gran Turismo was to try and take too much of a slice out of the NFS market, it would alienate the hardcore racers like myself and attract too many juniors and people who have no real interest in cars, just an interest in bright colours and flashy lights.

If it makes it into Gran Turismo, the game will be cheaper for it and Kazunori will forever be remembered as a sell-out.

I'm in two frames of mind about body modding. NFS takes it too far, with any old sort of modd being allowed, with generic kits fitting every car. I wouldn't mind perhaps genuine aftermarket kits maybe being available, e.g. HKS, Blitz, Veilside etc.etc. I guess however that this would vastly increase modelling times and reduce the number of available cars come launch? It doesn't have to be for every single car either, they could always pick and choose which they would want to do?

I hate veilside, and al the ricer body kit. That you can fit on EG civic coupe's or 4th gen prelude's is modeld after them. Every veilside car is just to extreme for me, they totaly kill the line's of the car.
Veil side itms more show than performance i think STJ88

Some modding is okay but if its a entire car with wings on the hood, top and back then you have some problems.:yuck:

I would like some sort of body mods available to make your vehicles unique, especially now that online racing is available.

So you're saying that optional parts would bring a bunch of NFS'ers to play GT, even though they would most likely hate the sim-physics, and it would affect you somehow? How would it alienate hardcore racers?

Oh, and once again, why does everyone make it sound like they'd force you to use the body mods?

I wouldn't mind actually. Those who prefer the the tuner-type cars would be happy, and it's not as if you must tune your car.

I'd probably just change the exhaust or something.

*swoons over the thought of listening to the F430 with a capristo exhaust in GT5*

We'd have to race against fluoro pink Ferrari's with Veilside kits, green tinted windows and purple vinyls with 23" DUBs driven by 5 year olds!

*gasp!*

It doesn't get any sadder than that. I really don't want to see that sort of thing in Gran Turismo.

I'm all for custom tuning, but I want SERIOUS custom tuning. Works of art, not wide-bodies with technicolour dream jackets and cheap add-ons.

Nobody is forced to use bodymods, but online, we're forced to look at 'em. Eyesores!

Gah!!!!

^thats Forza 2 for the rest of the world

This looks pretty darn realistic, and is one of the main reasons I love Forza 2:

Just a reminder to those who think customization = riced out tribals. :)

unimetal: congrats. you found (or made) one of the few (in comparison) racing liveries around. however, for every one well made livery, there are a dozen craptacular ones.

That's my point. Online, I'm going to have to race against these idiots, unless private rooms are brought in.and usually, the ones that **** up the car, can't drive.

WOW I am in heaven. The BEAMERS! That customization is incredible. That looks like they did a great job of making the car feel special to the player, instead of a just 8 others of the same color feel. It looks more recognizable, you see a certain kind of car and a really good driver is behind the wheel you won't forget it the next time you see it! Wow Forza 2? Do they have it for the Ps3?

Man I hope they do this level of customization for Gran Turismo 5. I do not own an xbox but WOW after looking at some screenshots from the game and checking out the website it has SO many amazing features! Auctions, race events, room customization. Vehicle damage. Man they really upped the ante as far as level of detail. Gran Turismo might have the graphics, but as far as replay value I really wish I owned an xbox just for that game it looks so beautiful. I know that Grand Theft Auto went to both platforms, it is a shame they don't bring that game to the playstation, then there would be both kinds of games, one with ultra good grapohics, and one with ultra depth and level of customization.

You have to admit it'd make the idiot drivers easier to spot on the grid before a race... "The one who'll be playing banger racers in this race is the only one on the grid with neons, a huge wing and a garish paint scheme"...

Hehehe, very true home4summer.

As for replicas of real race cars, they already have that in Gran Turismo, why would you want mods and schemes for a Woodone Supra or a Gulf Ford GT?

The issue here is custom paint (not a bad idea considering some of the rubbish the factory gives us) and body modding. Silly fibreglass kits are best left for EA.

And those BMWs look alright but considering they all look pretty much the same even WITH warpaint, I don't see the point. If everybody is customising their cars with stickers and stripes, then it starts to look same-same to me.

How many people let their driving do the talking and not the colour of their car? I reckon some of you guys belong in a beauty salon, the way ya carry on about cheap body kits you make it sound like you're Pamela Anderson looking for a silicon top up and a new hair and nail job.

Along with the professional body kits already mentioned. I'd like to see the ability to rebuild your cars engine. I don't think all the professional race teams out there keep the same engine as is for thousands of miles after an entire season of hard nosed racing. They rebuild them so they keep maximum power. (and so they don't break down) I'd like to see GT5 give me that option as well.
I'd also like to see some more telemetry during the actual races. (tire temp, tire pressure, engine temp, etc.) Be it a-spec or b-spec. I'd like to know whats really going on with my car other than the tires and fuel. Which brings me to my next point. I'd like to see some more options of tuning mid race. Being able to adjust tire pressure, downforce, suspension, etc. would really add to the immersion of GT and in online play, this could give the person with the most "car smarts" a competitive edge over the ones who "just drive."
Lastly, how about some mid-race disasters. Engine malfunction, suspension break, tire blowout, etc. It would be fun to fight adversity and still win a race. Reliability can also win races. Just look at Le Mans this year. Yeah it would defiantly suck to be destroying the competition and then have your motor blow up to kingdom come. But hey that's racing.

Yeah, but not everyone is possessed of that distinction. While I'd certainly love to see the ability to make your own racing liveries such as that, I'm with most people who don't want to see a grid populated by a vomit-inducing candy-coloured kaleidoscope of The Fast and the Furious rejects (one of my least favourite films). As you can't have one without the other - because there are people who actually think that stuff looks good - I'd give up the ability to make racing liveries in a heartbeat. not having it at all compared to having, but being forced to put up with those crappy ricers is the lesser of two evils.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What you guys who are so against customization are dealing with is what has been described as "prologueitus". You are so used to playing Gran Turismo 5P and being told to shut up and color that you have never experienced the beauty of private rooms and options. You race with WHO you are told to race with, you race WHERE they tell you to race, you get SCARED when all of this talk of customization comes around. It's like you are seeing the moon for the first time and it SCARES you. DO NOT BE AFRAID of the customization! Embrace it brother, DEMAND IT! For it is good.

I think it would be sweet If GT allowed customization, and I do understand that some people are going to make some ugly paint jobs, but some people are going to make nice paint jobs. Who cares though, Is It going to take away from the game that much If you see a car with a ugly paint job? That person could do anything he wants to his/her car, they paid 60 bucks just as everyone else who is going to buy the game. Some cars in GTP are ugly to me I just dont drive them. It doesent make the game worse, let them enjoy their game the way they want. Just as everyone else I dont like when people rice out cars, but Im not going to say I dont want major customization In GT5. In the end Its up to the player If they want to customize their car Its up to them, Its not like they are forcing you. If PD allows Major customization this will take the GT series to higher level IMO
