Well if you re-read that statement, it says that you can purchase a new set or 'change' the existing set meaning change the specs of the wheel. It would be redundant if it refers to you buying a new set of wheels for you car. I believe when it says 'change', it means changing something on the existing set of wheels on your car currently. Doesn't mean you can't purchase new ones. I think you're right CoolcolJ. People might think we're grasping for straws but I think it's just bad english on PD's part.
Agreed.

"Purchase new wheels OR change (modify) your car's existing set."
With that spin in mind lets now re-visit the ending.. "You cannot change (modify) the wheels on a Standard Model car."
Modifications could likely be changing OE style (differt OE wheel).. maybe center, lip, and or rivet finish.. powder coat vs paint.. etc.. etc.. Honestly I find it hard to believe they would leave something like changing wheels out.
Could simply be due to translation.. I know they have a domestic team but still.
You'll have to grouch at SONY Japan for this. They were the folk who had Kaz drop work on GT5 to produce GT PSP. Prologue was probably just a road bump of a few short months work in comparison, and work that actually benefited GT5. What GT PSP gave us was 800 some odd Standard cars and a delay.
By the way, I'm curious about how Race Mod can be done to "some" cars, and no mention of Premiums only.
"Purchase new wheels or change your car's existing set" simply means that if you have purchased more than one set of wheels, you can change between them in your garage or tuning area. I don't think it's any more complicated than that.
I'm really surprised how angry some of you guys got over this piddling little news.

are you kidding me...
READ THE POST ABOVE YOURS.... !!!
cant have it all i guess... the R34 in GT5P will be ok for me...with custom rims and aero.. i'll be semi happy
I'm still hoping that by "change" the wheels on standard cars it means, width, size, etc.
Need some clarification ASAP.
Could the reason for not being able to change the wheels could have something to do with the brakes not being modelled (just 2D) and different wheels could expose this and have it stand out like dogs balls?
In previous GT's the wheel faces were always 2D images when in game.
Agreed.

No it wasn't, GT PSP no doubt was based on a lot of GT4's assets but it wasn't a port. The game engine for one is completely different to GT4's, more like GT5GT PSP was a straight-up port of GT4's Arcade Mode... that's a pretty simple task requiring only a few people to complete.
@ your avatar. Hopefully GT5 will have the R34 Z-tune. No one has really been talking about this car, but it is definitely one of my favourites, and by far the best skyline gt-r.

Just throwing my 2c in the mix.
I think it will be like GT4 for standard cars.
You can change the rim, but you can only change the rim to the same size as the original set of rims, you cant increase or decrease the size or width, which is what you can do with premium models.

I think the ability to purchase "new" wheels will still be available for standard cars. We will however, not be allowed to "change" the current wheels. I think size and width are what's being referred to here. 👍

I'm reading this again with a fresh set of eyes this morning. I think you're right. You can replace OR modify (diameter or width) premium car wheels. But with standard cars you can only slap on new wheels.
