I've never understood America's obsession with huge items or trucks as you like to call them. We've got a similar thing with SUVs. Never see them with mud on the tyres. Hardly practical, economical or easy to park in shopping centres.
Doesn't make it easy to see ahead following one of these giants in traffic either.

SUVs I can understand to a point, bought one for my wife and don't regret it, but she is a stay at home mom and it only gets 16mpg with her driving. I'm no tree hugger, but it is funny when you see a 4 door pick up with a save the envirement or tree hugger bumper sticker on it. I just cannot rap my head around buying an F150 4 door 4wd with ecoboost just for status and not practicality. I have a young female customer who bought one to commute to work every day, but she does haul her quad on the weekends.

I also agree with the SUV debate a little also(profile pic for example) but I also stand with buying your own country's products. Example, where does the final profit go with a Honda that was assembled in the states vs a Chevy? Profit goes to the country the company resides in, so if you want to boost your local economy when buying a vehicle, buy your country originals if it is possible. Sorry, rant over.

I also agree with the young female in your example because she is using it for multiple purposes.
 
My wife drives an Envoy (american), I drive a Grand Prix GTP (also american). In north jersey winters can be rough as by you so an SUV COMES IN HANDY, but a Yukon XL Denali for a single person is a bit much.

Really wish PD had added the GTP:guilty:

Yeah, right now it is my '05 v8 Grand and my girlfriend's '02 Taurus, and that v8 has gotten me out of a lot of trouble since I bought it. Girlfriend now wants a Jeep too.

Heres you all talking about big powerful motors and how they are useful. My car feels a little small now, I drive a VW Golf 1.6TDI Bluemotion. In its defence, it can do 76mpg on a motorway, it has a turbo and it doesn't cost anything to keep on the road (Free road tax. 0.00p per year). I don't regret getting Jenson, yes, we name him.. one bit. He's the best car I've ever driven. Shame they don't put that in the game, you wouldn't need to refuel.. :)

My supercharged Grand Prix gets 25mpg, and I see lots of traffic and lights. Used to get almost 30mpg on the open highway. 197k means it does not go anywhere but back and forth to work. Your VW is not allowed here as it is, Gov. has some strange safety regulations, I here there are some very efficient diesels across the pond.

My dad once drove cars off boats coming into the UK from Germany, He was driving a new BMW petrol and those were getting 45-50mpg. the diesels were hitting 60mpg with a 2 or 3L engine. Very efficient cars coming over here these days.

Our government doesn't want us to get good fuel economy. We had the technology to get decent mpg from cars in the 80's and we are barely back up to that for NA petrol's. Our bigger motors probably would be reaching more in the 30's instead of 22-25 highway with NON-ethanol fuel if they would keep their hands out of the auto industry. And yes, my '05 can get that 22-25 range with all-time 4wd and all the weight.

If the above would change making American vehicles more desirable to the common American, then I feel like we would have at least a little bit better economy here. I agree with you that it would be great to have a car that gets great mpg, but I'd want it to be an American vehicle.

Also, vehicles are becoming more, well, idiot proof as some of us lose our ability to use common sense.

Some american muscle cars look good in Matte Paint.. only some mind you..
Italian sports cars also look good in some shades of Yellow. Ferrari 360 in Yellow looks epic.. :)
Astons look best in Tungsten. James Bond - Casino Royale colour I believe..
I do agree that a jag has to be british racing green as standard though.

If Matte on muscle cars, it needs to be a shade of gray, whether light or dark:sly:

As in 360 Modena in Yellow? Awesome.:eek:

German cars = definitely silver

Ferraris have to be red. The only other option is yellow.

Lamborghini = yellow or orange

French = blue, unless it's a Renault then it has to be Yellow

Japanese = White, their traditional racing color from the 60's

Anything Mopar has to be Go Mango or Vitamin C

Chevys: it depends on the model but usually the hero color. C6 Z06 in yellow or the new Z28 in red are prime examples.

As for the British cars, I agree with Shaun. In addition to that, Austin-Healeys, MGs & Minis need to be red with a white roof.
