I find it amazing that the Japanese predicted this drifting craze thousands of years ago when the alphabet was created. It almost makes me want to learn Japanese.

What is dorift, anyway?

And? People have Japanese tattoos without having the faintest clue what they mean.

No consonant in the Japanese kana (except n/m) stands alone - they must all be followed by a vowel (some syllables take the form of a diphthong and a vowel - shi, chi, tsu for example). "Dorift" is the correct (ish) pronunciation, but not the correct spelling.

show what i know...hell anyone can make that mistake.....hit up www.engrish.com and see why....a buddy of mine long ago also told me dorift is the wrong spelling.....meh

Yeah, that's his skidpad rating. I'd say it's impressive, if not impossible.

Yea, you and Klos can both go to hell, Tib's rule. Plus, you can make anything fast.

i saw this all coming with the release of Fast and Furious. now everyone that has a performance car or whatever is gonna look like a poser, and most of them are posers. thats why so many people look down on honda cause so many people follow the movies and put rims exaust and huge body kits on their cars and know nothing about working on the car or how to drive it.

is that add for mcdonalds gonna show up anywhere in the media, like on tv or anything? i hate most fast food anyways

No, it's not a religion, we're just afraid of what stupid Americans will do with drifting.
Grip -> NASCAR
Rally -> Outlaw
Drifting -> ???

Knowing America we will surely decide to re-write all the rules because we can do it better. We'll include front-wheel cars because all the stupid Americans I've ever talked to assume front-wheel cars can drift just because they can slide. Then we'll bring donuts under the umbrella too because that's drifting, right? Then maybe start watering the road down or putting bleach down to make more smoke or make it easier. Remember, the more things we call drifting, the bigger the crowd we can draw right? Americans don't give a damn about preserving a sport, they just want to make money. Want proof? Try reading up on SCCA's latest dealings with the NW Region Rally crew. Or the fact that SpeedVision sold out to NASCAR. And as each thing is added, it drags the rest of the scene down. See how easily things get out of control? If you ask me, America is not welcome to take a piece of drifting, it has no right.
I fully agree. America turns every sport into a corporate money making scheme. Or they cheapen it, by adding gimmicks.

I fail to see how ****ing Americans are going to destroy a technique where you intentionally drive like an asshole. We've already perfected it.

Don't come down on us, you have no right, and I know that you know it because I know you're not as closed-minded as you put on. Why is that every time drifting is so much as mentioned outside the drift forum, the grippers (gripers) are always trying to start ****.

OMG, our driving is based on losing grip. Guess what, yours is based on not losing grip. How does that make ours any worse than yours? They're different sides of the same spectrum, a true driving enthusiast enjoys both grip driving AND drifting because THEY ARE THE SAME THING. The only real difference is that drifting is judged on style, whereas grip is judged by speed. Since drifting is not racing, speed does not matter.

You gripers remind me of the skiiers on the mountain when snowboarding started to pick up. Through lack of understanding of driving, or closed-mindedness, you don't realize that your whole point is invalid by default.

what a good way of putting it perg, i agree, we are the snowboarders of the motorsport world. its like all those grip drivers are veterans and think they can bash us. wrongo!
:D

..I dont see the problem with debates. :) And I dont see the problem with the McDonalds ad. Its not like popel are drifting just because it says that he drifts. And its not like everyone is going to start drifting. Lets be real, most of them will ruin their tyres and just say f uck it. :)

Word! if i wanna be fast ill buy a straight 6 thanks, but if i wanna drift ill stik to 4

I do not understand it. Every chance you guys get you will pounce on drifters, tear them apart, even the intellegent ones: you insult just because you can.

I don't blame people for being mad at me for moving stuff around (although i didn't move this thread) if this is how we can expect you to react whenever something that refers to drifting is posted outside of the drift forum. Jesus, can you not see that the entire point of this thread was to point out to the people of this forum that drifting was entering a rice-like stage. Now i don't care if you love, like, or hate drifting, do we really want dum arses pulling their e brakes on the streets of the world: killing themselves and innocent people?

People who are so close-minded, that they will never see the world outside of the status quo, I will never understand. How can you condemn something you know nothing about? How can you pretend you know everthing when you are a 20(-) year old who only races in a video game -most likely- and are not even willing to try new things. How can you insult and tear down people who are willing to try new things, that have open minds and are probably more forgiving and thus better people than you.

Give me a break. This forum doesn't need people to make people mad enough not to come back. This forum doesn't need people who are so unwilling to accomodate change, that they attempt to prevent others from doing what they like by disgusting them so fully that they just dissapear. I do not care if you like drifting or not, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But saying things of the nature:

Wow, you're profoundly stupid. Good job. I'm going to go lose grip on my tires intentionally. :dunce:

is completely uncalled for. No one here broke any rule. No one here did anything wrong but call themself a drifter. And what did you do, you guys called every single one of them stupid. Who are you to talk down to us...

I just want to say that i don't think anyone -as someone once put it- is crying here. Simply if you are allowed to say your opinions in an offensive manner, those offended are allowed to respond back. We may not be able to respond back in a similar manner because while most drifters are new, those who hate them are not and thus carry some clout here at GTP.

As a closing note, what truly baffles me about those who hate drifting, and even those who hate racing, remains that as perg said, its all on the same spectrum. Their is static friction used in grip and kinetic friction used in drifting. If your goal is to become really fast how can you do so without approaching the limit of drifting, so why would you despise it so much. Sad really...

Does it really matter if he used an anology that was made by another individual. Is it not an easy enough anology for anyone who is involved in drifting and snowboarding to make. Really...

I agree with you, Bengee, but whats wrong with a fun rivalry? I really do doubt that people are really getting their feelings hurt. Sure things like "All drifts tYpE lykE thIs y0!" are uncalled for, but everyone is aloud to have opinions. I've been on both sides of things, I used to drift, and now I mostly 'grip', so I'm pretty sure I know how both sides are.

Buddy, you've got to be kidding me.

Typical 4-banger fan my ass. Your comment was completely unprovoked and stupid. He said a Tiburon couldn't do an 11 second quarter mile, and its obviously blatently wrong. You CAN make basically anything fast. Who the hell are you anyway? I'm seriously trying to figure out where your comment came from. Guess what, big block V8's aren't God's gift to motors. And where did I ever say anything about being a 4 cylinder fan? What the hell is a 4 cylinder fan? I like my car, a Tiburon. Its a four cylinder, I'm sorry. Forgive me for not owning an 8 cylinder, I know I can't be "fast" like you.

Don't be an idiot.

I recieve pms or aims complaining to me. People tell me that if individuals act like this outside of the drift forum, why should we want to go out there. How else would I have found this thread, i rarely come here to the RS... As i said i don't care if people love or hate drifting, and i am not trying to stop them from voicing their opinions. I am trying to stop them from attempting to stifle something that even if they might dispise, others do have the right to enjoy...

I have always had one goal in mind, being as fast as possible. So i guess you can say Xzift, that i have, from the beginning been on both sides. Now mind you poeple out there ready to say that drifting is slow, i never said it wasn't. But their are ways in which you can use it to allow you to understand the physics of racing at the limit of static friction ( the point between "grip" and drift). Another discussion for another time and place....

For a Company your trying to boycott, It has sure got a lot of publicity on the fourms lately!!!

Thats the 20B's job. ;) and yes, bengee, I understand where you're coming from. And I really am glad to see a mod that drifts, but I still dont see whats wrong with there being a little bit of debating. No matter what we do we're always going to have the "Grip Vs. Drift" talks and such. I dont see it getting better any time soon, to be honest.

There is a difference in presenting a well argued position, describing why racing is better than drifting, and calling people names. I would call the former a debate, and the latter nothing but trying to provoke an arguement.

Fun rivalry? What part of ganging up on drifters is a fun rivalry? I'm a drifter, and I like to read the drift forum. When I read posts where people generalize the stupidity of drifters, I don't see it as a "Fun rivalry". I don't see what kind of "fun" I would get out of being insulted.

And yes saying that drifters only speak like this: "All drifts tYpE lykE thIs y0!'" IS uncalled for, and untrue, but why is it still going on? Because obviously certain people find it amusing to make fun of people like me simply because I enjoy to drift in GT3.

I personally don't understand why certain people think that they are deemed the Grammar Police around here, but unfortunately they think they are. And yes, a lot of drifters are not the best writers, and a lot of them are young. They want to get their point across as quick as possible reguardless of spelling and grammar mistakes. And honestly, I never have a problem reading the posts on the drifting forum. Believe it or not, they are not speaking a foreign language, and its really not hard to tell that words like teh, mean the, and rox, mean rocks, and d00d, means dude.

This "fun rivalry", as you so nicely put it, is simply a way for people like Klos and milefile to help fuel the animosity between drifters and the rest of these forums.

..I think its fun, and if you gte your feelings hurt because someone said something about you on a Forum, you need to not take **** so seriously. :)

This kinda additude is what helps make it ok to bash on drifters

I cannot agree with this point. Anything that needs translating is, by definition, a different language - albeit an artificial one in this case.

We have a great many non-English speakers on the forums. How are they supposed to know that teh = la/le or die/der? Or "rox" means that something is good?

We all have a duty to express ourselves as clearly as possible. The freedom to say what you wish is matched by the responsibility of making sure that what you wish to say is understood - and let's face it, context is hard enough in a typewritten form, without having to grab a dictionary too.
