Drifting is something that some people do. Many of them are cashing in on the rising visibility of it. It's not a noble cause, or a "lifestyle", or the best thing ever done with wheeled vehicles. It's a fashion, a fad, a craze. Like all crazes drifting had early followers and when it's over it will have followers who still enjoy it. Accept that fact and stop acting like drifting is something more than it is.

Oh, like Formula 1 is such a paragon of simonpure, sportsmanlike gentleman racers, in it for love of the sport and not influenced by money and profit... Puh-lease.

Oh, so Americans are bound to **** up drifting because we **** up everything else? What the hell are you Canadians doing to it, eh? There's an assclown named HondaAccord15 you should meet.

As opposed to Japanese 17 year olds, who all have divinely-inspired dori dori flowing through every fiber of their bodies and souls? Again, puh-lease. I wish I had seen this thread earlier. I think I'm about to puke up my Big Mac.

Then what do you call it when the "import crowd" (what a stupid name) gang up on people who like American cars? That's perfectly acceptable, right?

I don't hate drifting or drifters. I hate shallow, incoherent, narrow-minded people. I hate people that think their particular special interest is the most amazing thing in the world, ever, and who demand that everybody respect it as such, while somehow also demanding that it stay "underground", unknown and popular only with their own very elite team of cool insiders.

It just happens to be drifting's turn in that barrel.

umm what are we canadians doing to driftng???? hmm i wonder....... lets seeeeee here......maybe NOTHING!
maybe all the drift enthusiasts i know up here have been doing there thing for the past few years, keeping it underground, and keeping it low key......and now YOU (da da da naaaa trumpets sounding flags raising ****AMERICANS****) decide you can make some money off it so lets go and develop some sort of scheme so we can have a new platform to create products for thus making more money.......like everything else you americans do this sums it up "lets expliot something thats not ours in order to benefit ourselves"

WORD eh?

Kid, not only you're digging a deeper hole for yourself. You're going to get torn up by Duke.

You asked for it.

Yes, I don't think anyone has ever survived and onslaught from the Duke. Especially now he's one year closer to the geriatric ward he's gonna get crankier and crankier :p

More on topic, maybe McD's is different in other countries? I know it isn't very healthy down here but not to the extent that you people are going on about the American McD's. But then again it was completely different when I went to a McDonalds in Hong Kong, the food was so fresh and clean tasting, it was one of the only McDonalds meals that I've had that actually filled me up and felt like a proper meal.

Yeah. There's no money in Canada. And nobody wants it, either. Everything is free (except taxes). Even tires.

I love drifiting now that McDonalds put it in an ad. Everybody I know says they are a "drifter" now, and they all watch Initial D and have lots of stickers on their cars. Everybody's doing it.

They don't have McDonalds in Canada do they? And if they do, surely nobody ever eats there. I mean, it's American.

And what the **** is this... you Canadians insist on claiming everything as your own?

Spelling/grammar errors aside, who do you think owns "drifting"?

It's a pretty esoteric concept, I know. So let's simplify it - who do you think invented drifting?

By drifting I'm referring to the act of drifting a car, not the organised drifting events and points-scoring schemes.

Drifters, obviously.

: Damn, I could have combined my posts. Especially since the two posts have a combined word total of five words. Not including this edit.

: Yes, I know Cunnyboy. You're a dolt-and-a-half.

So basically the threads posts say americans can't and shouldnt drift? I'm just trying to sum things up here I'm rather stupid. Reasons being 1.American cars suck? 2.Americans try to make money off everysport? 3. Americans have 17 yr old kids that eat Mcdonalds and think they can drift? 4. F.Zamataki is racist and just thinks americans shouldnt drift and last number 5. Stupid Americans think they can drift front wheel drive cars?

1. famine, please stop spellchecking me, i dont need grammar police up on my ass everytime i make a post. stick to your opinion and post it, ill be glad to read it. but again, i dont need to be told i cant spell, because i know i can.

2. no, we do not make everything "our own" in canada. canadian mcdonalds is run by canadians, there is a canadian president of mcdonalds, and there is a canadian headquarters for production of food in canadian mcdonalds restaraunts.
from what ive heard, the mcdicks down there tastes like complete **** compared to the mcstinks up here.....and ours tastes like ****, so you guys must be eating goat ****.

3. i am not 100% sure on where drifitng was invented, my obvious guess is japan, but im sure that people around the world have discovered that sliding your car around a corner is challenging and fun.
the americans FOR SURE did not invent drifting, because there motorsport past has been all about drag racing and nascar.....i mean, maybe if you factor in sprint cars, i guess thats drifting..but its on dirt nevertheless.

4. how am i racist?? i dont understand how my opinion makes me racist. where did i state that i have a hate against a certain ethinc group?? show me. 5 for 5, more like 0

i still stand behind my point that america uses new trends and events to there advantage to create money....and this has been portrayed in this recent mcdonalds ad. assholes.

Ah, so you don't know where it comes from, but you DO know where it doesn't come from?

Then you cede that sprint cars drift, but it's on dirt so it doesn't count. Funnily enough, a lot of the stereotypical "driftas" use the World Rally Championship as a demonstration of how drifting can be fast - and that's on dirt. And WRC don't drift on tarmac - just watch Rally Germany...

'it's just as bad all over the world - UK, US, Canada, Pakistan, United Arab Emerates - it tasted the same.

You're pushing your luck there. Drifting has it's origins in dirt tracks (I think)

i still stand behind my point that america uses new trends and events to there advantage to create money....

You can't blame that on america because EVERY major corporation capitalises on that else they'd go bankrupt in 10 minutes.

im well aware its on dirt, and i never said that it dosent count did i?

but like rally it is a different style of drift....yet rally, and sprint racing has been around for how long?????
and oh look! japan all of a sudden becomes popular 'cause they do it on tarmac with 4bangers, in lines behind eachother.....fact is, europe and japan are 10 years ahead of north america. always was, always will be. were just the last ones to catch the rest of the worlds wave

how does this have ANYTHING to do with the topic now?

By the way, Zamataki, I'd suggest you shut up before you REALLY get yelled at.

What? You must be kidding me. No bugger drifts in "Europe" (whatever that may mean). We have autocross events in the UK at least - as in North America - but that's it.

Japan has never been "10 years" ahead of North America, since it is mostly under the direct control of the US. Plus two nuclear weapons has a way of dealing a bit of a blow to the local industries. After the war, the US took effective control of Japan, and still has a permanent military base on Japanese soil. Oh, plus the fact that Japan was a totally closed country until the mid 19th Century, when the Portuguese opened links with them. They didn't even know guns existed until then, and the Americans had been using them to slaughter each other for 200 years by that point.

Japan - an alien culture though it is to many of us, and fascinating in that respect - is not the centre of everything and the best thing on Earth. I like the culture - enough to have studied the language on my first degree course - but don't worship it.

Ah, this'll be the bit where you quit making irrelevant, pointless statements which are then proved wrong by everyone in existence, yet somehow feel that you're the put-upon one?

Marvellous.

hope you guys don't mind me quoting Neon Duke

In other words, you made some smug, postmodern, off-the-cuff comment so that you could sound all edgy and avant-garde. Then a number of intelligent people rebutted it. Since you had no actual thinking behind your comment, just a premanufactured, facile opinion you picked up somewhere that seemed cool, you now find yourself unable to defend it.

That fits the bill perfectly :D

famine you obviously know what you're talking about...

but i just wish someone would agree that if it wasn't for americas nack for overly
commercialising a trend or activity.. then maybe the japanese style of drifting would remain unheard of and untampered with.

the reason this all pisses me off soo much is just cuz of all those n00bzors following the **** they see in ads like that and killing innocent people.

thats what fueled me with arguing...ill close with saying drifting is a worldwide expierience, and it is done in many different ways.
america does follow most of japans and europes fashion trends and toys etc etc....
and that the sudden burst of commercialising drifting is really upsetting for most of the people i drift with.

This is how I live
For walking through doors. Sideways.
Never ending pursuit for food.
The weight record.
Pulling groins standing up.
My stomach GROWING my god it's big
Gain a pound for every Quater pounder

Thourgh some fries in there, too
All this eating makes a guy hungry

Now that is something we can all agree on.

However, it's not necessarily the ad's fault. It's like violent computer games, or films. Does the violence within a media form create violence within people? Or does it cause more violence in violent people?

Anybody that tried to drift a corner after seeing 2F2F and wiped out themselves/someone else - was it the film's fault, or their fault for being incapable of distinguishing fantasy from reality?
