Here's a question: If McLaren wins the constructors championship (as they probably will), do they get #2 and #3 on their cars, with the second Renault wearing #4? I seem to recall that's the way it works, but I'm not sure.

Fernando #1, of course!

Nope, it'll be Fernando #1, Fisi #2 then Kimi #3 and Montoya #4.

edit: Too late and a much better explanation from Famine

Ah, that clears things up. Thanks guys!

Pedro Diniz must have been excited to wear the well-deserved #2 in 1997 ;)

Did anyone else think the moving cameras thet ran up and down the side of the track were great?

I did. Lets see them in more tracks.

They were pretty good, but would have been much better if they were steadier and relayed higher quality pictures. The one in the Silverstone pit is better, IMO. It's steadier and the picture quality is exactly the same as the rest of the trackside cameras, unlike the ones in Brazil.

A classic case of answering one's own question...

probably because they are used less. brazil uses them every lap. i enjoyed them very much as always. they give great views. that one in sector 2 that turns gives an exelent view of the cars.

although this race had less of those super-slow-motion images where you can see the car jerking and jumping around.

I liked the one in the pit-lane, but the other one in "Laranjinha" section was too shaky. Speaking of shaky the tarmac didn´t look as bumpier as in previous years, an improvement. 👍

there is talk honda may supply minardi engines next year in order to get sato a drive in one of the cars. i hope they do as not only do i want sato to drive next year, honda having another 2 cars to test with would be great.
Ummm, Minardi is owned by Red Bull now, and they'll be using rev limited cosworth V10s ....

It was a good race, finally McLaren got the 1-2 that we've missed for the past 5 years! JPM had a very good race and was faster than Kimi. Kimi looked wasted by the end of the race, his neck was like a piece of string :p

I've heard alot of talk about whether or not the 2.4L V8 engines will ever reach the power of the current 3.0L V10s. People shouldn't forget that 10 years ago, when the engine capacity was first reduced to 3.0L V10s, they were producing power outputs of about 740BHP - which is the expected power output of the 2.4L V8s.

Maybe the engine rules will change before the V8s can ever be developed to that extent, but given the time to develop them I think they could start creeping back towards 900BHP.

Looks like the only driver's fight is now for 3rd place with MS and JPM.

McLaren (not mercedes :P ) should get the Constructors. They engineered the fastest car.

Now that Mclaren are ahead it will be dificult for renault to catch up, because there is no reason why a mclaren shouldnt win the next two races whether it is kimi or JPM.

2005 drivers championship - not won by Alonso, but lost by Raikkonen.

Then there was the Nurburgring and Hockenheim....

There's another 20 points right there.

But still Alonso did a good job and drove sensibly in the second half of the season 👍

no it was won, it was a shumacher like performance i think, if not as dominating, or as many race wins as Schumi has racked up in previous years. Alonso got out to a good lead early with dominating wins, and from there on, just made sure he was always there at the end, and in a good spot almost every time. All year it was mature smart driving. I dont think you could pick one stupid move he made in the entire season, hardly even made a mistake in qualifying if my memory serves me. It puts so much pressure on when no matter what you do, your opponent is always right there.

IMHO, Alonso has been the best driver even in the 2nd half season. Not the fastest, but the most clever one.

If Alonso would have been 2nd and Rai 1st in driver's championship, Alonso'd be the fastest and Renault the best car, but it'd be as reliable as McLaren has been this season. Raikkonnen did bad at 1st half, so he doesn't reserve to win the championship. As simple as that.

Rai fans, better luck next year.

Nuts. I didn't get to watch it. My video player took a dump on my chest and didn't do it right.

Congratulations to Alonso, he drove smart.

I agree... Alonso drove better in the 2nd half of the season, but IMO he went so far up the driver's championship because of the negligence of others. He got second place in Spa thanks to Pizzonia, he got first place in two or three races thanks to Raikkonen's retirements.

The commentators yesterday on the transmission were talking about who is the better driver, Alonso or Kimi. The commentators are Spanish, so of course they chose Alonso. But Pedro de la Rosa is one of the commentators and he made an interesting point (albeit, he didn't chose Alonso): Kimi has gotten pole position with a full tank of gas, and he's proven to be a much better driver time and time again (going from 5th to second, from 11th to 4th, and the like); whilst Alonso has just maintained positions.

Best driver for me is Kimi, the championship winner is Alonso because of McLaren's unreliability. Goes to show you that the best driver isn't always the winner.

Yep, that's just it. Kimi needs a reliable car, and McLaren haven't had that for years. Although, at the moment the car is reliable, not a mechanical failure in a while.

the speed tv commentators said there was a rumour on the pit lane about honda supplying the engines. they said it was just a rumour though.

You wish pSI,

That race held a tragidy too, Monteiros first retirement of the season :(, if he finished that race he would have equaled MS's record of 17 straight finishes..

well you know the fia couldnt let their favorite 7 time world champion who shall remain nameless (shumacher who?) by a driver for a low level team in his first year. i'm not saying its a conspiracy... wait, yes i am...

and your damn right i wish. it could happen... honest!

I wish I'd put money on that top three finish... could have made a bob or two...

I actually missed the live race (again) as I was at a concert last night (although it was great 👍 👍 ), but I managed to get home in time for the highlights without knowing the result (even though it was pretty predictable!)...

Well done to Fernando, he deserves it, although so does Raikkonen... his time will come...

I enjoyed the start yesterday it was very exciting. I hope Mclaren win the Constructors but i think possibly Fisichella will do better in the next races because the team arnt concentrating on Alonso as much, also Mclarens reliability could be a big problem.

Slick Rick
also Mclarens reliability could be a big problem.

Well now that they are in the lead (or be it by 2 points..) i think they will look to consolidate the lead and give the McMerc a little less power inturn for uber-reliability for the final 2 races.
