British Touring Car Championship Game and Esport Series Confirmed, Scheduled for 2022

I know it's not technically a BTCC car because if never ran in the series but it did run and win in the Super Touring series here in America which was based off of the same ruleset as BTCC at the time but I think it would be cool if they were able to add the Dodge Stratus SuperTouring Car in the classic lineup.

I also realize that I am probably the only person who would ever want that car in any game. LOL I loved all the cars in the Super Touring era of racing. They were so cool.

I’d be surprised if it were to be unreal, afaik unreal physics are basic for sims.
Kunos while they used unreal, added in their own physics engine.

I’d have thought motorsport games would go with a game engine that can handle advanced sim physics built into it.

Kunos are also a tiny team. Unreal would make sense and MG do their own physics as well, nkt impossible. Could be Madness also, many things it coukd be. We'll just have to wait and see.

KartKraft and GTR3 are also using Unreal.

If we ever see GTR3 :(.

Automobilista 2 uses Madness, Codemasters obviously use their own Ego engine, WRC/ETRC use KT Racings own KT engine.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out but my money is on Unreal.

It's not a hardcore sim but they use an advanced physics engine and that is good enough for me.

Interesting news about a new BTCC title.
For me the F1 games strike the perfect balance of being accessible with either a pad or wheel and I remember Stephen Hoods involvement during the first four or five years at Codemasters. There was some good games on the old gen consoles. I even enjoyed F1 2014 despite the criticism it got.

Codemasters then changed things up and F1 2015 shipped with a lot of features removed which coincided with Stephen Hood leaving the company and I remember thinking that the franchise could take a permanent dive. Instead it became better, much better in fact. F1 2020 is a massive hit so hopefully this new title can take some lessons from the direction Codemasters have taken since he left the company.

Sounds like he wants to create a similar, engaging and authentic career mode for touring cars which is great.
Classic content from the Super Touring era plus the current series and they get my money for sure.
I have great memories of the original Toca games but became less of a fan with the Race Driver games and the whole play as Ryan Mckane career thing.
Just always preferred to play as a real driver or as myself.
Although I know that a lot of people love them games too.
Whatever though, I’m just glad that BTCC have finally woken up to the fact that video games can really add value to the real life series.
If done right then this could be a winner for both Stephen Hoods company and the BTCC.

@Moby45
Amazing what wheels and a front splitter can do to a otherwise crap looking car 👍

Lol I always thought they looked alright. We had one(Chrysler Cirrus) when I was younger and it was actually a pretty good little car for us. Never gave us an issue and lasted a long time until I wrecked it when I was 18. When I inherited it at 16 I tried to make it look like the Super Touring car.

To add to your comment and agree with it 100%. The big reason I loved touring car racing was that in that era it was otherwise "boring" road cars turned into race cars. Gave me a lot of inspiration growing up. But I do wish Dodge would have actually made something somewhat similar to their race car. haha

Lol. We must be around the same age. Got my license in 99 and the 90's btcc cars drove my mind mad. Mad enough to really want a SVT Contour

You're not. :)

Day one purchase for me. I get to drive the Q50 and possibly the Primera and Accord Type R. These are all I need.

Haha yeah that is probably right. I'm 35. A friend of mine in high school who was also a fan of that era had a Contour. Although not the SVT but he did the same as me by trying to make our cars look like BTCC cars. He even went as far to order "Mondeo" name plates to replace his Contour ones on the car.

If the classics where not included I would have no interest. 99 and down anything past that is to modern for my taste.

Agreed - my interest is mainly in the classics!

For anyone unconvinced or who needs reminding just watch this clip of a Hillman Imp (3 time BTCC champion car) - tiny Imp battling with the Cortina's and BMW - magic!

I really hope they can pull this off as I feel like the current BTCC series plus a good selection of classics has the potential to be an amazing game.

No. Given that we don't even know platforms, game engine or anything like that I woudltn expect a VR announcement, if there is one, until muchcloser to launch.
True triple monitor should at least be supported.

Ive just got into BTCC this year. Having been a F1 fan for many years, i finally have had enough of F1, what with the loss of live races unless you pay per view, and the predictable racing, its all got a bit boring. So last year i promised to follow BTCC. Then COVID hit lol. Anyway BTCC is back on now, and were loving it.
Loved the old TOCA games, cant wait for a new BTCC game. Will watch with interest. Would love to see behind the scene of development, It could easily be an hour a week for 2 years and it wouldn't get boring. Im sure developers could monetise a weekly program or vlog or YT channel on the development. loads of people would love to watch it.

How far back is ‘classic’, I wonder. Does it just mean the ST2000 cars and group A cars? Or can we expect to be hucking Alan Mann Cortinas and Escorts around Crystal Palace and Goodwood?
