Let me make a concrete proposal on the tyre thing, and we can see what people want. Forcing to use two compounds adds some strategy to the race now missing. TOday at Fuji, the only way to go is 5,6,6,6 laps all on soft (or any combination of the 5 and 3x6 stints). All other ways will be slower. So no pit strategy really.
A proposal would be to use Medium as the prime tire and allow the use of only one set of Soft in the race. You would then do two stops, use the medium for 8/9 lap stints and one set of soft for a 6 lap stint at Fuji as an example. The strategy is when to use the faster soft tire. The first, second or third stint which can be used in different ways to gain postion. Decisions has to made on the fly, which is exciting..
I done some races with two compounds and here are some points why other ways of doing it doesn't work that well.
If forcing two compounds but allow any combination of it, often the fastest way is to use the softer tire for most of the race, pit 1/2 laps from the end and do the last 1-2 laps on the harder tire.
If using hard in the race with tyre wear on, there will be a big difference between the grip using soft/tyrewear-off and hard/tyreear-on. You have to learn different break points and maybe even find two different set-ups between the sprint and long race.
It needs to be simple as it will happen than people do mistakes and use the wrong tyres and not comply with the regulations. In some cases people will check the replays and if too complicted there will be more mistakes and more protests.
I'm happy as is, but I just wanted to put a concreate proposal that I know would work for people to chew on
