From what I understand the patch seems to be effecting parties and match making? I'm not sure the extent of the issue. If thats all it is no big deal to me since I always run solo.

I think I played four or five games yesterday, three of them on Firing Range, and had connection/frame rate issues on all three games with a four bar connection.

That happens to me all the time anyway.

Apparently there is a hotfix for the issues already. I'll probably go ahead and download the patch and see if its working well.

I had a few games split screen with my buddy (on his ps3) and there was plenty of issues connecting and staying in a game. Once we were in a solid lobby all was generally well, and I suspect when I play solo I will have very few issues as I mostly get to host.

It was one of those nights when both of us were doing really well, and the game took it upon itself to throw us until awful lobbies with unbalanced teams and put us on the bad team leaving us no choice but to lose and lose badly. I barely managed to go positive in most games, which for me is not a normal occurrence, but it wasn't in the close match kind of way more just dying from random 'nade spam and such.

Time for a bump and a double post .

As predicted I played on my own set up with very few problems and one of my best nights on Black Ops yet. I just felt unstoppable in most games even though I was using set ups not to my norm, sporting Flak Jacket as I worked at Pro (which I now have) along with Warlord for Semtex and Nova gas combos on objectives. I think my lowest KDR (bar when my friend played a nice negative game ) was about 2.23 but the highlight had to be going 60-7 on Domination on Jungle even though it wasn't the best KD there was just so much death and destruction.

Just noticed this whilst poking around on the official web site... "dolly cam" has been added to Theater Mode:

Dolly Cam Editing in Theater

News: December 16th, 2010

Yesterday, we covered one of the new features included in this week's game update: offline Practice Dummies. Today, we're digging into the Theater's new editing feature: the Dolly Cam.

One of the most frequent requests from COD filmmakers has been to get more control in the editing of clips in Theater. The Dolly Cam feature lets you set up camera markers around the environment at different points in the timeline of the match. The camera automatically and seamlessly moves between each marker at a speed set by you to provide more fine-tuned control over camera movements and playback speed. Let's take a closer look at how to use this new feature with a brief walkthrough below.

Using the Dolly Cam

When you start a film in Theater, your default perspective is 1st person view. Using the indicated button, you can switch to 3rd person and Free Camera views. While in Free Camera, a new display now appears over the timeline that allows you to toggle between “Free Roam Mode”, “Edit Camera Mode” and “Dolly Camera Mode”. Free Roam was previously the only functionality available while in Free Cam, but now you can switch to Edit Camera Mode to place camera markers around the map or Dolly Camera Mode to preview your camera edits. More on Dolly Camera Mode in a bit - right now, let's start placing some cameras.

DollyCam2.jpg

When you place a camera using Edit Camera Mode, a preview window pops up in the upper left corner, much like the window you see when a Camera Spike is planted in the game. When editing clips in Theater, this window displays the camera's perspective as a preview of what you'll see at that point in the timeline in your edited clip.

When you move away from the marker and turn around to look at it, you'll see a camera model along with information about the marker. The top number indicates that camera's position in the timeline. Only one camera can exist at each point in the timeline, so this number represents the order in which the camera appears in the linear playback of your clip. The bottom number indicates the film time when that camera's view will occur.

Setting up Multiple Cameras

Now that you've got your first marker set, let's put down another. You can't have two markers at the same spot in the timeline, so fast-forward a few seconds and choose a second location to place another marker. After you've place it, move to the side so that you can see both markers. You'll notice an orange line connecting the two - this is the path the camera will follow as the clip plays.

Now look down at your timeline. There will be two yellow lines that represent where your markers are placed in the timeline. Rewind to a point just before the first marker and hit play while in Edit Camera Mode. You will see the camera move between the markers from a third person perspective. Now, rewind back to the same point before the first marker, switch to Dolly Camera mode and hit play. You'll see the same camera movement from the viewpoint of the camera, as it will appear in your final clip.

DollyCam3.jpg

We've only created a path between two markers, but up to 50 can be placed within a single clip! Your path will continue to grow as you place more markers. You will notice that the path between two markers isn't a straight line. The game automatically determines a curve on the camera's path to prevent the camera from making jerky movements as it moves between each marker.

NOTE: You will not see your markers when you switch back to Free Roam Mode or to 1st Person / 3rd Person modes. If your markers suddenly disappear, you've likely switched modes.

Edit Camera

Move in close to a camera marker and a yellow circle appears around it. The button to “Insert Camera Marker” will change to “Edit Camera Marker”. Using the indicated button to edit your camera marker will provide you with a contextual menu of options to control speed, reposition the camera, or remove the marker. Each of these options is described further below.

DollyCam1.jpg

Speed Mode

Speed Mode sets the speed that the clip will play back in the segment between the current marker and the next. This affects the playback speed of the clip, not just the movement speed of camera. If the speed is set to 4.0x, all playback will occur at 4 times normal speed. The default speed is 1.0x and can be adjusted anywhere from 0.1x to 4.0x.

Manual

Playback speed is controlled with standard timeline controls rather than speed settings placed on the camera marker.

Linear

Playback speed starts at the setting of the current camera and gradually speeds up or down until it matches the setting of the next marker.

Fixed

Playback speed is set at a fixed rate along the path from the current camera marker to the next.

Dolly Camera Mode

When you switch to Dolly Camera Mode, playback will occur from the perspective of the dolly cam as a way to preview your edits as they will appear in the final clip. While in Dolly Camera Mode, a notification in the upper left corner displays the current speed and camera number in the timeline. You can also see this info in the preview window while in Edit Camera Mode.

Action!

We encourage all our budding COD film directors to give the Dolly Cam a try. This powerful feature puts a high degree of finessed control in your hands, and with a bit of practice, you will be able to make some truly amazing clips.

So, I'm probably not going to be getting BLACK OPS any time soon. I've heard it's laggy even on new computers; mine is three years old and still busts a gut to do anything more stenuous than open iTunes. That said, I had a guy look at it a few weeks ago and he changed something in the BIOS that has stopped it from overheating. I'm not going to risk it with a game, though. And I don't have enough money to get a new laptop because I have to pay extra for living in college since I'll be heading back a month in advance. It's a shame - I was looking forward to playing BLACK OPS over the holidays, but I have way too much going on right now. By the time I'll be able to play it, the next game in the series will probably be out. Plus, everyone will already know the gameplay maps intimately. Though based on the gameplay videos I've seen, only about half of them (WMD, Grid, Array, Hanoi, Villa, Jungle, Radiation and Cracked) are any good. The rest (especially Nuketown and Firing Range) get a resounding "meh" from me. It's a shame, because some of the abandoned maps like Berlin, Munich, Rooftops and Sandstorm look really good.

I have it on PS3 and the servers are better than what people were saying. Maybe it was because of a recent patch.. Anyways, played 15 or so games and no lag whatsoever (splitscreen online).. I was going to get it for 360 but I don't want to pay 60 bucks to play for a year! I have enough bills to pay

Since the update on the 360 it's been pretty much unplayable for me and most of my friends. Hit detection has gone out of the window and now, unless you're on the same team as the host you've immediately lost. I've had people running towards me in a straight line and have been firing at them for ages only to get hit markers and then get killed by 3 of their bullets. It's happening constantly and has completely ruined the game for me. Why continue to play when you can't even compete in a one on one?

So my internet is working again for the time being. I wonder if it will still be working in a few hours from now. :grumpy:

I watching my quad spray fail again earlier. It was even funnier the second third and tenth time watching it. I put one guy in last stand and kill his buddy. I then run around this small building and three of the guys buddies are just standing there trying to revive him. I kill all three and put the guy in last stand for a second time. Just as I run out of ammo and am pulling my CZ75 out for the finishing touch a damn RC car flys past me and takes him out.

Matchmaking is a big problem in this game, I just realized earlier today. I just got the game and super n00b right now and its always those guys who prestiged and high levels versus me and other noobs!

In terms of gameplay, Black Ops >>>>>>>>>(x1000) MW2

If you're talking technical stuff (matchmaking, lag, etc etc.), MW2>>>>> BO

The lag is off the charts!!! Split-screen online absolutely cannot get a lag free game :grumpy:

--edit--
wtf I'm playing split-screen online with my bro and player 2's screen is lagging to hell but player 1's screen is running perfectly. He just exited to the main menu and it wants run the initial config again (brightness, etc). Exit to XMB, restart game and ... it's lagging again for me. No prompt for brightness though.

In terms of lag I seem to get on just fine and my connection isn't very fast here at home. It doesn't like my NAT type, so every host migration is a pain in the ass and often results in me being kicked even though I've had no issues with any other COD like that. It's not really a big problem though, not seemingly to the scale you guys are having.

Oh and the thing where it wants to re-do the config is usually because you hit start before it says "Reading HDD..." in the bottom corner, make sure you give it some time for that to pop up and disapear then hit start.

The maps sound interesting, though of course alot of it comes down to how they will actually be laid out which we don't know. The video title is quite misleading, I was expecting an actual review of the maps when in actual fact it's more of an overview of what is expected.

In other news, I managed to Pro all the perks up to and including Second Chance which I was previously not going to use but the OCD in me couldn't leave that alone as the one perk I hadn't managed to Pro even though I felt like a complete jackass using it. I'm also beginning to feel connection problems as well, generally just so many hosts quitting and me being kicked because of it. I had the chance to rejoin one via my friend in one game after getting a quick 3 kills to no deaths on his team, I ended up against (it let me rejoin even though I got kicked? Of course!) and despite having an all negative team managed to pull off a draw in the dying seconds, my final kill literally in the last 2 seconds.

"We get it first because we pay for it" lol
What does Marathon Pro do? Unlimited Distance?

Is pro like it was in MW2? I always hated that. You see someone down and think you've got an easy headshot only for them to have a shotgun or something.

Also I to thought it would be a more in depth video. Most of those maps I was already aware of. It seems like they're all maps that were canceled before release. A new zombie map sounds good though. Hopefully its a little more open than the two other new ones that came with the game. Der reise and shi no numa are still my favorites because of their size.

Regular marathon seems to be enough for the one class I have it on.

To be fair regular marathon just is enough, the pro is overkill and although it is lovely to have it's unneccessary. Very good in CTF though.

In other Blops news, I managed a couple of really nice games to finish my session, in the last 4 I went 46-3, 30-6, 66-5, 28-9. The first of those pulling a 32 killstreak on Nuketown of all maps (note: that doesn't include my doggys) using all of the equipment I had at my disposal, even a concussion grenade kill on a last stander  along with a couple of picked up weapons, my own and my sidearm.

Throw a decoy and wait for the cattle to come to it!

Let me just help the team a bit, I was the only one on the team that broke over 10, I was 39 and 7...

Ok, I just found this and its pretty rad.

I absolutely dominated with a couple of mates tonight :D In most games (of TDM) I had no trouble cracking 15 kills and on several occasions I topped 20. Finished the night three minutes before midnight - and thus Christmas - with a very very very nice 25-5 using the AUG on Hanoi. K/D is now sitting at an amazing (for me - I would often struggle to hold a 1.00 K/D in MW2, overall it's .76 in that game) 1.39. 647 kills/464 deaths; level 26. I think my other account (GTP_) is sitting at 1.40.

Dual mag + Sleight of Hand is absurd, by the way. I was using that setup in the 25-5 AUG game, quite by accident -I'd literally just unlocked the AUG so I created a class with it and dual mag. Completely forgot SOH was my orange perk and thus dual mags were a bit redundant. Every other reload is virtually instantaneous

I run Dual mag and SoH pro on my main set up , for exactly that reason. You are literally never ever caught without bullets in your gun, I'll even fire a random bullet to get me back ready for the dual mag reload so I know if I'm mid firefight I can practically reload without even taking cover. Plus dual mags is like a mini scavenger, combine with the faster ADS and it's quite a formidable combination for aggressive play.

So, Santa brought me Black Ops today :D. Looking forward to some good fun GTP parties dominating Domination games again :D. But it'll have to wait until tomorrow ,as i'm off to the country until tomorrow -_-

I do that exact same thing, even getting onto the quicker reload side before a fight 👍. Great minds think alike, or maybe it is just experience kicking in.

I was talking to a kid who was a higher rank than me (second prestige) but he had only started playing as of MW2. I asked him what his class was running, it goes a bit like this:

Warlord
Ghost
Flak Jacket (maybe, cant fully remember)
M60 (Why....just why would you use it without SoH)
RC Car
Mortar
Attack Chopper (I lose respect for anyone who uses RC car, the amount of kills you AND your team can get with Blackbirds and UAV's up is potentially tremendous.

Anyway, this kid thought he was top 🤬 until I played a game with him. It was just a regular TDM but I had my Dogs and Chopper in within minutes and also had around 2 Blackbirds up that game. He was trippin balls, 'ZOOOOMMMGGGGGGG, howz u getz chopperzorzz.....ZOMG! And this is coming from the kid who thought he was awesome in lobby, going on about how he will wipe the floor with everyone, yeah....nice 4-11 ending buddy 👍.

/Random Story I don't even know why I typed....

I love those kids who run their mouth about how good they are then go massively negative and practically roll over for you to kill. That said I use the M60 with Hardened sometimes as well as SoH, Warlord is pointless though as the iron sights are very kind so you can just slap a grip on and you're good to go. Usually running it with Flak Jacket and Tactical Mask (Pro on both) as my not so discrete rambo style set up more for fun then high scores.

My current set up of choice is the Commando Dual Mag, Ghost Pro, SoH Pro and Hacker Pro, though I have a set up with Warlord and a silencer red dot as well which is quite handy for a more stealthy game. Hacker has turned out to be incredibly useful and by far my favourite Perk 3 to use saving my life multiple times a game, whereas Ghost has always been the dominant Perk 1 overall. Perk 2 has alot of good choices though, not often is their an obvious choice that every set up would benefit from whereas the other slots have definate go-to perks and some specialised ones like Lightweight for CTF runners.

It's funny how the kids that talk themselves up are always underage (read: 14) and can't actually legally own the game

(sorry Legendary :p)

I finally got my head around zombies, hitting level 21 solo on Kino. It's a fun game mode, even alone, as there's no real frustration in the desperate struggle for survival against the horde. I unfortunately didn't get any awesome weapons like the ray gun or something, the best I could muster from the random box was a Galil, with my MP40 (which I managed to upgrade both of).
