This will be my first time camping out for anything...Toys R Us and Target both are not taking preorders

So, for starters,

How early should I show up at the front door?

You should show up the night before, bring lots of warm stuff and waterproofs, food and water.... make sure you go with another person or in a group so you dont loose your space when you have to go to the toilet or something and also theres less chance of falling sleep with a group of you... oh and MAKE SURE YOU ACTUALLY HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY FOR THE DAMN THING! :sly:

I dont know if I'm hardcore enough to go right now or the night before.

How about 4 hours before they open? I really dont think that many people will stay outside overnight, especially in the cold of November 19

Oh and I will bring food, water etc and I will have somebody else with me.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna go several hours before Best Buy opens, since everywhere around here is either not accepting or are full of preorders.

You'd be suprised. Best advice is to sleep in a car 1-2 days before.

That reminds me of the cute black girl (12) who showed up where we were camping for the PS2 and didn't bring enough cash. She only had $350 for the PS2 (she wasn't getting anything else). Problem was, they were selling a PS2 pack complete with a game and some other stupid disc. Cost was something like $379. She wasn't happy to hear that. So, she left to call her dad to get more money. She got in his car, and they took off. We never saw her again. If she stayed in line, she would have gotten one.

I'd show up 12 hours before the store opens. If it's a 24 hour store, like Wal*Mart, ask the manager to see what they'll allow. Not all stores are accommodating to campers. Especially young one's who can cause trouble. Call the store manager and ask what the policy is about camping in front. Ask if there's a security service on patrol. Call them and tell them you plan to camp out there and have permission from the store manager. The Security Service for where we were had no idea we were allowed to camp there, and it wasn't easy to make them understand we had permission to be there. (Yes, I called the store manager for permission.)

Use this time to meet and talk with people you'll probably will never see again. There were people in line who didn't talk with anybody. We kinda made fun of those people, so you don't wann be one of those guys. Just chill and hang out. Bring blankets, a pillow, magazines (gaming magazines preferred), small cooler of food and drink, bring a big pack of gum for everyone or a giant bag of candy. Don't bring a radio. Those guys weren't any fun, and they were asked repeatedly to turn it down or off. Oh, if it seems like rain, bring a few umbrellas. Trust me, somebody wont bring one and they'll start to bunch together to stay dry. I learned that one the hard way.

Why whats he getting... An extremely expensive ferret?

No, a PS3, and retailers will not allow "holds" without a reserve, and most retailers are not doing reserves, and the ones that ARE doing reserves, are out.

So, in that case, no one will "hold" a PS3 for anyone, line up or cry about it.

Ah, that is a reason... Well, grab your car and park closest as possible to the store, carry an alarm clock compatible with your car outlets, and some food, and a jar to pee in. Also bring cofee, lots of cofee.

More often than not, you will not be the only one nuts enough to do so.

Definately. Then wait at least 1 day outside before the store opens.

Oh, and bring your running shoes and gloves just in case someone goes insane.

More advice: Bring Portable heaters(no gas wasting) and a gameboy or PSP.

Have more money than needed, so to make sure you can afford unexpected "premiums".

Have cell phone with you at all times, medical help may be needed with an insane man on the loose! :D

It's the Nov.17, you wont be able to get anything on the 19th.👍

Uhhh, there are already people in line.

I'll comment for you; morons, losers, idiots, video game wienies, friendless dweebs...

Nobody could be that desperate to make a couple hundred bucks profit on a game console. In fact, they could find a part time job and make the money instead of standing and sleeping in line. So, these must be video game fanatics we're looking at and, anybody this desperate to get a game console should really take a closer look at their lives.

Hey, spending a half day can be fun, but this is way beyond ridiculous.

...Last year people were lined up about 12 hours ahead of time for the 360 launch outside of the Best Buy that I work by, and if we all remember, it was a very cold November last year in Michigan. If it is cold where you are, I highly recommend bringing a tent if they will let you, and maybe an electric heater if at all possible. Sitting around and not doing anything only encourages sickness, so stay active, or if you choose to sit, stay warm. You wouldn't want to lose and fingers so you couldn't play PS3, right?

...The last time I stood and waiting for anything was Halo 2, and that obviously was quite some time ago. In that story, I had two pre-sale parties to go to, one at the local EBgames with some friends of mine around 9:00 PM that night, and the other at the Best Buy (where my Pre-Order was waiting) with other friends. I showed up at 10:30, and stood in line (I was second) for an hour and a half in 25 degree weather in nothing but layers. I froze to death, but it was worth it.

...Would I do it again?

Only for Halo 3, man...
