Some people in Taiwan say that their PS2 can't read GT4.
Anyone have this problem or konw why this happen?

Another member of this forum stated they had the same problem (sorry can't remember name) and if that does reoccur for you or others you may have to purchase a new PS2.

👍

Oh no! I think I'm pretty much screwed then. I got my ps2 way back in the begining when they were going for 600 dolars. although I didnt actualy have to pay that much. It would have to have been the first version, and my PS2 has trouble reading disks anyway. Is their some hardware or software reason why it can't read the dual layer disk, or is it just due to wear and tear over the years on the consul?

There is know way that Sony can do that! If it says Playstation 2 on the cover it WILL have to play on that system regardless of age........FULL STOP

But what will you do if it won't play? Sew Sony?

Could be, yeah. Perhaps Sony have stepped up their game.

But the fact is the consoles are getting old and they will struggle as time goes on.
It's like asking a heavily driven 9sec car to keep doing that after 10 years.

Oh dear...

Well at least old xboxes can play new xbox games ;)

for the record, my ps2 and xbox have never let me down (though my xbox gets more play, and gets moved about and carried alot LOT more)

The laser will loosen to the point where it wont play double layered DVDs very well or at all. This is a PS2 design flaw. Sony will fix your PS2 for free. Since GT4 is a dual layered game, this is why some people are having problems with GT4 playing on their console.

Lucky for me, I just got mine fixed about 6-7 weeks ago. I now bet a lot of people are going to get their PS2 fixed. Call 1-800-345-SONY in the US and tell them you have "DISC READ ERROR" problems. They'll inform you of their "No Fee Offer" to fix it.

hmm... you say sony will do it for free only if the seal is not broken...
I assume they would not do it for free if I have already installed a mod-chip ( for imports only )!!

You assumed correctly. Not only will they not repare it for free, but if you send it to them anyway, they'll "convert it to original performance" which means they'll remove your mod and make you pay for it.

By the way, Sony doesn't care if the warrantee sticker is gone, just as long as you didn't fiddle around with the more obvious mechanical parts in the PS2.

Time will just have to tell for all of us. Luckily for me, the g/f is getting one of the new slimmer ps2's and if mine wont read GT4, then I'll just borrow hers and give her my older model.

My PS2 damn well better play it. It's one thing to not have the game because of a delay... it'll be a whole 'nother story if I have it in hand and can't play it because my PS2 broke. I'll be pissed.

C'mon Jedi2016 dont let this long wait get to you....well it hasnt gotten to me as of yet...but we still have a long wait..poor us at the states.... :indiff:
