i was told that all new cars nowadays were designed to pull slightly to the right for the reason in case a person falls asleep or something. is this true or do i just need a front end allignment?

:odd: uh... I'd rather not have my car pull to the right if I fall asleep, sounds like a great way to flip a car. :dopey:

I think it just needs air in the tires on the low side or it could be alignment.

- Balance the air pressure in all tires. Does it still do it?
-- Swap your front tires, does it pull to the other side now?
-Yes: Then it's your tires. I think you just have to replace whichever one's pulling.
-No: Then it's your alignment. Get it checked/fixed.

The concept of cars being made to pull to one side on purpose sounds totally ludicrous. To me, anyway. I think the idea of understeer being 'safe' is pretty silly as well, but they definatly do that.

I'm glad they didn't make my old '98 Accord that way. I was on a roadtrip to Canada, but took a bit of side trip in Northern Washington. On this boring straight stretch, I dozed off. When I came to, there was this car that was like hundred yards away, except now, I was bumper-to-bumper to it. :scared: Truly one of the scariest driving experience I've ever had, but if my car had veered off the road, it would've been a lot worse!

Yeah... I went to Sacramento the 25th and it took 4hrs. (usually a 2hr. drive, 4hrs. to tahoe though) I was constantly dosing off in traffic. :scared: Again, I don't know how I made it through.

Highway 5 is straight FOREVER... going towards L.A. which I'll be doing in a few weeks. :scared:

On a lighter note your comment spark that one episode of the Simpson's where homer is driving and falls asleep he keeps opening his eye and each time the car in front is closer until they come to a bend in the road and he his the guard rail. D'oh! Then he continues and he totally falls asleep and pretends he's in bed land and the car is his bed. When he starts vering off to one side the bed starts making all the noises and vibration of the car until it hits a tree or something. D'oh!

Dragging fences with him and after he hits the tree he goes to sleep on the airbag .

This would work in countries where one drives on the left... how?

My car pulls to the left, so does the car of a friend of mine. Both RHD cars… I think, in both cases, it is the alignment. I doubt car makers would do this on purpose.

My car used to pull to the left. LHD. It's nothing to do with design, and all to do with alignment.

cars arent designed to go right or left, no matter the country, by the way, why Do you guys drive on the left? people invented cars, drove on the right, you got one, and said, HEY! I should be over there! why?

When cars are aligned it's supposed to be straight, with any error being favored AWAY from head-on traffic, that is all, but, if they get it right, it'll go right straight down center

Isn't it partly to do with torque steer?

But yeah, seems kind of odd.

What if its a RWD car? My truck pulled to the left really bad and its a RWD. But I know for a fact its the alignment from the donuts and stuff I've been doing in the snow.

If it'is RWD, check the alignment, if it's FWD, it's torque steer and you can't do anything about it because FWD sucks ass.

Cars are not made out of the factory to pull in any direction on their own, but many factors can cause this to happen, like wheel alignment, tyres, road conditions, suspension wear or damage etc.

well i found it to be a load too but i was told this because on the margin they have bumps that make a lot of noise and vibration when you drive on them and the idea was if you fell asleep you would veer over those and they would wake you up; of course this wouldnt help if you were in the left lane and veered into another car. i knew it was BS i just wanted to see if there was some truth to it.

Thats sounds hilarious and scary at the same time..........

Definitely the latter for me. :indiff: I know I must've been doing around 90 mph(in a sleep) and probably missed the car by just few feet.

Is that a teckademics logo?

Donuts shouldnt ruin your alignment, unless you hit something..... at least, in the RWD vehicles my friends and family do donuts with it doesnt.....

whoever said FWD pulls to one side or another because of torque-steer is a ********, torque steer is what happens under full-throttle acceleration, from power differences between the wheels, and we arent talking about that.
we're talking about driving along, normally, maintaining speed and it pulling one way or another.
I know all this amazing info because I own a FWD and it doesnt pull either way unless i'm on it, in one of the first 2 gears.... ever.

No-one said it was because if torque-steer.
I mentioned it as a possibility because a thread was discussing it recently.

And if you really need to insult someone, have the balls to replace 'whoever' with a name and don't hide your stupidity behind half a dozen asteriks'.

Okay fair point.

It is true to an extent, as admitted by Disturbed07, but just because Raghaven didn't know/realise it didn't apply to cruising speed is no reason at all to go offensive.

why would he assume it was under full-throttle?
and actually, he was quite offensive against FWD cars, if I recall, though I believe 2 people (maybe 3) said something about FWD cars and torque steer, that would be the reason I didnt specify names, plus, I woulda had to look!, and I'm lazy

And how does replacing a word with asterisks make me stupid, again?
I understand you realized how stupid the thought was now, but to call me stupid, right after claiming nobody said it was from torque-steer, and even then say you mentioned torque steer yourself, .... do I need to finish?

You are aware that all roads are built with a crown (high in the center, low on the edges) to allow water to run off.
This also has the side effect of making a perfectly alligned car pull right or left, depending on which side of the road you drive on.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!

We have a winner.

thats not it though. i probably just hit a few speedbumps a little too fast.

Theoretically, it'd be an even bigger incentive to stay awake on your side of the pond, because you'd be wandering into the oncoming traffic lane instead of off the shoulder. :scared:

Yup that is the Teckademics logo, Pao Ching.

Well me doing donuts is typically in the snow, but I've hit some ruts and stuff...I'm sure thats part of the problem. Also the aftermarket suspesion gets owned when I go down rough Michigan roads.
