Errr, they are the same car. They are both Ford Sierras, just with a slightly different 3 door design. The Merkur was just the American version of the Sierra XR4

The Merkur and Sierra XR4i are the same car - the Sierra Cosworth is a completely different kettle of ball games.

The Sierra Cosworth and XR4i were very different under the skin - the cossie, being a homologation model had a lot of expensive motorsport inclined parts, especially in the drive train and suspension area.

Again, the Rover and the Honda were the same car underneath... Same for the Alhambra, the Sharan and the Galaxy.

I missed the i, but that's what I said.

Yes they are different under the skin. The topic is about cars the look the same. They look the same because they are both Ford Sierras.

So lets change the title to "Cars that look the same but are not related by being the same model or by being the same car with a different name or use the same underpinnings"

But what he's saying is, that despite some mechanical differences, they are the same body, and thats why they look the same. It would be like saying the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon aren't the same car because of a difference in engine. Sure, mechanically they might be different, but the base body and car they start with are the same.

But that's the thing, they are not the exact same body. There are subtle styling differences between the two. There are two different engines powering these cars. That's the main reason why I picked them. One has a 2.0-liter Cosworth developed turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and the other has a South American-built (just like my car :D ) 2.3-liter turbo-4. The Merkur was sold in the US, and the Cossie was not.

The GMC Yukon and Chevy Tahoe are exactly the same with the exception of the badge. Same engine options, and same styling. At least with the cars I listed, there are differences under the hood, and slightly different styling (things have a way of repeating themselves... :dunce: ) In that case, I would say the GMC and Chevy are the same SUV, but I still believe that Merkur and the Cossie are different enough to be listed as cars that look similar.

For example, take the 1985 Mercury Capri (US) and the 1985 Ford Mustang. They looked exactly the same and (at least with the V8) had exactly the same engine, transmission etc. That car, wouldn't fit here on this list again because they are exactly the same (but with a different badge).

Ok, the thread is about cars that look the same, not cars that are the same underneath. Everybody understand?

Maybe I should have put it another way. Its like saying that a Chevy Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade are different cars. Can't get the AWD or 6.0L on a Tahoe, and the Caddy looks much different in front, but they are the same thing. I do get what your saying, but really, they are the same. I mean, do you consider a Mustang Cobra a different car than a Mustang GT??? I mean, the Cobra has a different hood, wheels, engine, trans, rear suspension, and trunk lid. But, they are both just Mustangs with different spec. I feel its the same with the Merkur and Sierra Cossie. Yes, there are spec differences between the two, and little variations in body. But, at its core, and much of the outside of the car, they are the same.

Here is one that I found. I knew that new Jag looked familiar for some reason. Kind of shows some "family" similarity. HA HA HA

Where the Continental GT looked sporty, yet elegant (a true GT car), from the side, this new car looks like the Kia Amanti. Or maybe the Kia Amanti looks like this new Bentley... depends on how you want to look at it...

Why? They are different front side and rear. The front end reminds me more of a civic. The canopy looks more like an evo or a lancer. From this angle the rear looks like and old impreza. Just because they're both blue and have gold wheels, a hood scoop and a rear wing?

Wow, that Kia Rio STI wannabe is a real car? There is one driving around my town, and I've always thought it was just some ricer....

If you showed me that Kia Rio up front, I'd say it was cheap knock off of the Scooby as well.

What is it with Kia nicking other ideas?

Again the same car, anyway. Designed and produced in the same factories by PSA.

Same engines too? Because everyone started arguing when I posted the Sierra Cosworth and the XR4Ti... but that's a different story. :sly:

I posted about this in another thread, anyway here it is:

Geely merrie 300 prototype and an ordinary C-class.

Don't think the merrie went into production, I guess MB threatened to sue their asses off.

How come he doesn't know what a scooby is, yet his name is scoobyonline? As for the STi and the Kia...that thing really makes me mad. lol, as posted earlier (a couple months ago maybe?) everyone like freaked out and got ticked off at it.
