Choosing a car

Well I have managed to scrounge together just over 5 million credits and I would like a recommendation on a LMP/Group C car to buy. One that won't be discarded after 1 or 2 races. I already have the Mazda 787B if thats any help.

I would suggest the Audi R8, BMW LMR (haven't used it personally, but hear it is good), or the newer (2004?) Pescarolo Sport. I think those are all pretty even, but you should be fine in any of the races with the 787B.

The Audi R8 is a fantastic car to buy for the price. Fast, very nice at handling, and better than the Minolta.

I also find the Pescarolo's to be very great cars as well.

Don't waste your money buying the R8, not that it's a waste, the R8 is a great car, but you'll win one for one of the Sarthe 24hr races, so you'd end up with 2.
Check the prizecar lists, see sticky thread for FAQ's at the top of this board, and buy something that you can't win.
The BMW V12 LMR would be a good suggestion or the Playstation Pescarolo C60.

Can anyone tell me where I find out what class/group a car is?
I see much talk here of Group C cars, what are group c and how do I find out what car is what group? Thanks

To the OP, why are you needing to buy one? Just for fun or for a particular race/series?
I assume you already have the Minolta, get the R8. I know you can win it with the 24 hour endurance race but if you don't want to tackle that right now it'll be worth it. I haven't tried the Pescarolo but it seems to be highly recommended along with the Minolta/R8 and 787B. I will be purchasing it shortly.

Also why isn't there much recommendation for the Bentley Speed 8? I thought this is/was a bad ass car. Is it because not many users have it because it requires a 24 hour endurance race or simply because it's not that good?

Group C were the uber-cars of LeMans from around 1983-1994 i belive, Super fast, greatest cars there ever was. Only non-formula car that was faster were the IMSA GTP cars.

It's only because, as far as I'm aware, the Bentley Speed 8 isn't available to buy. You'll have to forgive me if I'm wrong, I'm currently 1000+ miles away from my PS2 (and a tad drunkely ) and unable to check, but I'm fairly certain the Speed 8 can only be won for Sarthe 24hr II enduro, not purchased.
Once you win it, yes it's an awesome ride, I'm currently running GTWC in it stock configuration, vs. a very hard lineup, and it still kicks bottom! :p

It's well worth getting your hands on, but only if your prepared to do 24hrs racing in A-spec mode, anything less is cheating!!!! :sly:

I'll fly home tomorrow, hungover, and check it out, but as far as I recall the Speed 8 is more than capable of taking on the Nissan 89 & 92 cars, the Sauber C9 and the Toyota 88C-V because of it's superior tyre wear.

Check here if you're at all dubious.....say no more....

If you've got 5 million you could wait until those 4 black racers show up in the 2 used sections (every 700 days) and maybe snap up 2 of them.

The Audi R8 is definately worth the buck. 350mph+ topspeed ain't too shabby.

You can beat nearly every race in the game with that baby. Even some of the F1 races, if you got the time.

Get the Pescarolo. The Audi and the BMW can be won.

Yeah, I got all four. :P Nice cars, especially the Toyota GT-one.

If so, how comes that I don't have the BMW? :p One race to go, Tsukuba 9h.

The BMW McLaren can be won, but not the LMR.

I would go with a Group C, they're a million bucks less then the modern LMP's.
More specifically, the 787b or Peugeot 905. Both very light, so they'll be great with fuel and tires. The only thing is that the 905 shifts way slow.

Personally, I'd buy the black Toyota GT-One and give it a chassis refresh, an oil change and a car wash. I prefer the ordinarily-coloured R92CP and 787B, and I don't like the R390 GT1. Otherwise, I'd take a 787B (I know you already have one), a Pescarolo or an R8 (I'd only buy it if I won the silver/yellow R8 ( :yuck: ) from the Le Mans 24 Hours I). And I like the R8 more than the Pescarolo.

NEVER BUY THE R8 I WILL FIND YOU AND KILL YOU IF YOU BUY THE R8, WHEN YOU CAN WIN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buy the Pescarlo C60 JUDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT PWNS!!! EVEN KNOW ITS FRENCH!!!!

*Self plugging* That should help. By the way, I would go for the '03 Pesky, as it has better tire wear, sounds better, has a cooler paint job and makes you look less like a company billboard for Sony.

Well I shall keep these recommendations in mind for when I next have the ability to buy those guys. I unfortunately had a meeting with the dreaded corrupted save. And after doing the 'Ring 24 Hour too.

I think I may tackle the 24 hour Sarthe race to get the Bentley next week. This week I'm going to try and finish Manufacturer's races and the 8 & 9 hour endurance races.

Why do some cars have better tire wear than others even if they're both using the same tire(ie: Racing Medium)?

Weight, and other factors, like control of the car, so it doesn't burn the rubber.
