Actually, the cockpit shake makes sense and feels realistic... Most of the really fast cars have very stiff suspensions, are really low to the ground, and have performance tires. Also, this is always magnified by high speeds. If you raised and softened the suspension and put on comfort tires, it would be MUCH less bumpy and shaky. Trust me, I've been in a few real supercars in my life...

The shake is nothing compared to my old Renault 5 (850cc!) that shook me to bits. The suspension was a little suspect to say the least.

I'd like to see Kaz model that as a premium. Rust everywhere, holes in the floor, creaking suspension every time you turned a corner and my very own Matte Blue paint job on one wing (slapped on with a brush).

The problem is not how much bumpy or shaky it is, the problem is the (totally) wrong perception it gives. Take a look at iRacing: This is how it should be, dynamic shakes ON THE CAR.

Now can you see the difference?

Dude in the real world your eyes adjust to any vibration and movement, you just don't see it! GT5 got it totally wrong, look at the iRacing video that's one more thing GT5 should learn from them.

If there becomes enough people unhappy with this effect, maybe the attention could lead to the feature being toned down or disabled in a future update.

That looks terrible - the driver's head is static - like a video on a tripod. I know the GT5 shake is over exaggerated but none looks really bad. When you're strapped into a race car your spine and neck muscles and your bucket seat absorb some of the shock. I do remember Martin Brundle explaining how when you flat spot a tire, sometimes the vibration feels like your eyeballs are about to be thrown out of their sockets and it becomes difficult to see. I know that's regarding F1, but I feel the stiffer the suspension, the more violent the shaking. I also acknowledge that F1 drivers don't have much padding in their monocoque. I wouldn't expect violent head shake in my comfy Jag XKR!!!!:sly:

They should allow some adjustment at least, i like driving inboard, but i dont in GT5 because of that, it was a disappointment.

Its like a camera you dont fix tight enought and it just shake all over the place.

Mostly a matter of personal taste.

GT5's is like a camera. I think no game will ever get this right as there is no such thing.

The "driver's head" should be your head. If you wonna feel bumps and shakes in a realistic way you need a Motion simulator, something like this:

that thing simulate chassis FFB. You can't properly simulate chassis vibrations with a visual effect, it makes no sense. When you play GT5 your head is static, only the screen shake and bake, so all in all, it's still an unrealistic artefact.

Totally agree:tup:, but at least a little shake gives you some sense of drama, and this is, after all, a form of entertainment. And at the other end of the spectrum, the so called helmet cam in Shift 2 is terrible to say the least:yuck:

Yeah, but drama has no place behind the wheel if you are doing any serious driving. The best compromise in this topoic belongs to iRacing. GT5 simply fails in this part of the simulation, others like Shift and som rFactor mods are just a joke!

👍👍👍

Ok, that was very impressive and convincing. As simple as making the car shake and not the whole screen.

I was one of the people who said I'm comfortable with GT5's camera shake, but after seeing this, I completely disaprove it.

Oh, and those sound effects... Simply beautiful.

The Corvette is one of the best sounding cars in iRacing, I just love it! I'f only PD would change the sound sample on the Corvette's racing exhaust for the one the Callaway C12 uses with the racing exhaust...

At least we aren't playing an arcade game like NFS Shift.. that driver has a seizure around every turn

Lol!! Yeah, Shift's cocpit view is just a joke!

I absolutely hate it with a passion, and I completely avoid that view. I wish it didn't shake so much, then I would use it.

As somebody else said, it's really just down to taste. It is highly difficult to make truly realistic.

Personally I think that iRacing video is a horrid way to do it. When I drive my car, my point of view moves, the road and everything around the car moves, but the car does not swing freely as if unconnected to either. That is just surreal. I'm sure it would be better if you could feel FFB though, so the movements would match up to something, at least.

If that's the only option in iR, I'll take rFactor's head shake over that any day. At least in rF the movement is fully configurable, both overall and specifically so you can dial out what you don't like or add more of what you want(if you have plenty of time to fiddle with it). Even GT5's odd "vibration with no movement" is better than that video, for me.

Still, I'd find anything preferable to a locked camera.

Voted no on the poll however, as it should be an option for those who hate it, and adjustable for those that do... just like "look to apex."

i'm sorry but removing the shaky cockpit view takes from the realism. once that is removed gt5 will become one boring simulator that doesn't have any thrills whatsoever and might end up like that train wreck, iRacing.

You're misinterpreting what is actually happening in iRacing. The car is not "wobbling about", as it's most definitely on the road, doing it's physics thing. It's still only the camera moving, but because of the constricted viewing aperture (the screen) it sort of looks weird. I'm reminded of that Wii remote 3D thing that appeared a while back. When you're racing, focusing on the track, it's really not at all strange. Of course, it's still far from perfect, but at least it's not distracting / debilitating.

If your vision really is so badly affected, as it is in GT5, then I'm amazed racing drivers can even complete a lap. My own experiences with the "visible limit" of vibration have shown me just how incredible the brain's ability to extract information is; you can continue to "navigate" whilst technically not really being able to "see" where you're going. That's not going to happen in a game because so much information is inherently missing.

I agree with Husky. I wish more people would have watched HKS video before voting. It's a matter of personal preference, but it is abit exaggerated to me. Especially with the X2010 at Indy in cockpit view, almost makes me sick.

I don't use it because of the extreme shake in some cars :/ so sadly even though I would LOVE to use it I just do better going into third because of those shakes.

Yes that may be true for the cars that acrually behave like that on real life the problem with gt5 is ALL cars behave like that f1 with a flat you mentioned. There is no way a veyron or a gtr shakes that violently at 300kph in real life. They are as smooth as a babys bottom. In gt5 its like they are re entering earths atmosphere

I hate the way it is now. Not realistic at all. It's too freaking stiff, like the head of the pilot is glued to the seat.

I have no problems at all love it. Lets me know when I'm in a highly tuned car, badly tuned car etc. 👍 My TV is also 240hz so maybe that help.
