Yes, he should have. But he shouldn't be remembered as a bad person by everyone who doesn't follow football (and some who do), which is what is going to happen.

I don't think I could possibly disagree more with your second sentence. Even 10 National Championships would be completely overshadowed, no demolished by what took place on campus all these years. Relutations are currently as they should be. Ask any of those young men if things feel Much better, ok, "even" or whatever term you want.

I'm speculating the answer is no.

It is sad that Paterno passed away such a short time after the scandal finally broke, as he and his family were dealing with the allegations and the destruction of a legacy.

I just feel like he told those who were above him in the line of power, and they didn't do anything. That should be the responsibility of the administration in my opinion, not the coach. I feel like he's taking way too much flak for this whole thing.

I remember that Pitt-WVU game, that was just a bad day for little conference fans (to me the Big East was always not major, even more so now) everywhere.

To me, during the late 90's to mid 2000's, the Big East was a major conference. Louisville, with Brian Brohm, was a top 15 team in 2007. South Florida was ranked #2 at one point in 2007 (I believe). Pitt was very good when Larry Fitzgerald was there. But overall, you are right, WVU needed to get out of there. Sure, we had to sue to do it, but oh well.

So what’s in store for the ‘12 Buckeyes ? Everyone knows about the sanctions being implemented against them by now. It’s a 12 game season and that’s it. No Big 10 Championship game, no BCS Bowl game, no nothing. Play your scheduled 12 game season, clean out your lockers and go home to watch the rest of the season unfold in front of you. Hmmmm, part of the game, we got caught with our hand in the cookie jar , so now we have to pay the price. Let’s gear up for ‘13.

The 2012 season schedule is as follows for the Bucks, along with my take on it :

Sept. 1st - Columbus Ohio - Miami of Ohio (WIN)
I don’t see a real test here, so lets not get overly excited. Buckeyes easily handle Miami in a blowout.

Sept. 8th - Columbus Ohio - Central Florida (WIN)
Again, not a real test for the Bucks. Meyer sees what the Bucks can somewhat do in a real game situations following the blowout of Miami. Goes for the throat, blowout #2.

Sept. 15th - Columbus Ohio - California (WIN)
Cal should / could present somewhat of a 1st test for the Buckeyes. Remains to be seen. Honestly speaking, the Bucks should be able to handle the Golden Bears. Perhaps not as easily as the 1st two games, but still, they come out on top.

Sept. 22nd -Columbus Ohio - UAB (WIN)
Nothing spectacular here either. Calling on blowout #3

Sept. 29th - East Lansing Michigan - Michigan State (WIN ???) (perhaps their first LOSS ???)
This will be the first tried and true test for Meyer and his Bucks. Going on the road against your 1st divisional opponent. By now Meyer has a solid feel for what his Buckeyes are capable of doing. Can the revised Bucks handle the Spartans ? I’ll go out on a limb here and say yes. However I feel this could be a very close one, a thriller.

Oct. 6th - Columbus Ohio - Nebraska (WIN)
The Huskers have yet to impress me since their inception into the Big 10. Looking at what they have done this past offseason, well, not really a whole lot of exciting working here. Bucks pull out a win in what could be a close game though.

Oct. 13th - Bloomington Indiana - Indiana (WIN)
After 2 divisional wins, the Bucks are pumped as well as Meyer. They March into Bloomington and manhandle the Hoosiers. Possibility of blowout #4. Remains to be seen, but none the less, another win for the surging Buckeyes.

( OPINION BREAK ) - At this point in time of the schedule, we “should” be at 7 - 0, maybe 6 - 1. Well pleased with the progress so far. After all, we have now matched our wins that we had after a dismal last year. Things are now going to heat up for the latter part of the season. Buckle the seat belts, hold on tight, here we go into the heart of the matter. Can the Bucks dig in and play ball with the big boys of the Big 10 ?

Oct. 20th - Columbus Ohio - Purdue (???)
This is a tough call. One never knows about those Boilermakers. Which version will show up ? Meyer could have his hands full here. I’ll say that Meyer digs down deep into the playbook and eeks one out at home in a close thriller. Who knows, perhaps Purdue digs down deeper and pulls one out on the road. Looking at a coin toss here.

Oct.27th - State College (Happy Valley ….. not so happy any more). Penn State (WIN)
Need I say anything ? ……. Blows out the Nittany Lions

Nov. 3rd - Columbus Ohio - Illinois (WIN)
Yet another team that you cannot call out as to which one will show up.. The fighting Illini play the Bucks hard, but just fall off the short end of the stick in Columbus.

(OPINION BREAK #2) - Good possibility of being 10 - 0, maybe even 8 - 2. Still quite pleased with what’s going on. We are now going on a bye week … getting ready for the 2 biggest games of the season. This will be make or break time for Meyer and his Buckeyes. Once again Buckeye fans, sit down, buckle up, shut up, hang on ….. The last two games here are going to get reeeaaalll bumpy.

Nov. 10th - bye week
Sitting in Columbus catching all the other Big 10 action. Prepping themselves for a rough, very rough next two weeks.

Nov. 17th - Madison Wisconsin ( aka Camp Randall) Wisconsin Badgers (LOSS)
This is a scary team to be playing …. especially when it is being held at Camp Randall. The Badgers will have none of the Buckeyes new found power. Wisconsin will come out on top and show the Bucks that they are not ready to be handled by Urbans new spread offense. Wisconsin has studied the Bucks, they know what to look for, they are ready to mix it up. Hoping I’m wrong, but I see what could be a close loss here. Urban takes notes and readies himself for the ‘13 matchup with Wisconsin. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see the Buckeyes come out on top of this one. It would be a HUGE shot in the arm heading into the final week of football against their arch rival ….. Michigan.

Nov. 24th - Columbus Ohio - The University of Michigan Wolverines (******* hate to say this ….. LOSS)

RIVALRY WEEK AT IT’S BEST ….. HERE WE GO

This is the game that OSU fans have been waiting for all season long. This is the game that makes OSU and Michigan coaches legends. If you can’t beat Michigan, your on the hot seat. The same can be said on the other side of the coin, if you can’t beat the Buckeyes, your on the hot seat. Just ask John Cooper, he knows all about this game. I cannot deny the fact that Michigan is once again a powerhouse team of the Big 10. The surging Maize and Blue waltz into Columbus and play the Buckeyes hard. Denard Robinson picks apart our line backing crew (which appears to be our weak link in the defense) and has a stellar day passing. The Bucks new spread offense will give the U of M defense a challenge like they have not seen in a while. Both teams have done their homework on this one, they are well aware of what can happen in this game. Look for a high scoring, close, hard fought battle, down to the last second. Hoping, really really hoping the magic can be on the side of the Buckeyes and pull this one out against their arch rival from the North. If it so happens that the Buckeyes can beat Michigan at home, this will have been a banner season for Urban Meyer and his new found power ….. The OSU Buckeyes. Look for them in 2013. ‘12 is a stepping stone, ‘13 we reach glory again ………. TRUTH

Good luck Bucks
Good luck Coach Meyer
Go out there and give ‘em hell

Final results of 2012 OSU season (just my opinion) ….. 8 - 4 maybe even a 9 - 3 - a hard pressed 10 - 2 ?

I find it interesting that some “die hards” of OSU are calling out a 12 - 0 season. Realistically, I don’t see this happening. It would be nice, but I just can’t go with the flow on that call. Let’s just be realistic about this and be happy with a winning season here ….. (throws out thoughts of ‘11).

Honestly I'd be shocked if OSU finishes undefeated.

I'll do a full season preview if I get time, although it may be depressing .

I expect a bowl game. We were piss poor last year and still managed 5-7. We should have been 6-6, Marshall beat us in overtime on the last day of the season.

That was probably my fault, since it was the first game in seven years I missed.

I did a quick looksie at your schedule Cam. I don't think it is all that bad. You've got a legitimate shot at a bowl game.

Best of luck to your Pirates. 👍

Back at you bro, I'm optimistic for the conference schedule, non-conference will be brutal. Especially if we slip up next Saturday against App State. South Carolina is almost 100% a loss (although we gave them a good scare last year) and Carolina is next to impossible in Chapel Hill. Last time Navy came to Greenville, they ran for almost 600 yards and we lost 70something-21.

x2. There are just some people out there are look at things in an unrealistic manner. True, the schedule is in favor of OSU (8 home games and only 4 road games) and we pretty much have a cakewalk for a 1st half of a schedule, but keep in mind, this is an all new, redesigned team. A new face that has yet to be proven. On paper and statistically, we should / could be on top of it all. However we are all well aware of how NCAA Football plays out. 12 - 0 or 11 - 1 are not totally out of the question, but reaching this plateau is a looooong arm reach away for the Bucks, long arm reach. I just can't see it happening. The suck part about this would be IF the Bucks could hit this goal, it would be a total embarrassment. Here we have a team that goes 12 - 0 and cannot play in the Big 10 Championship Game, a shot at a high profile BCS game would be gone, let alone a possible shot at a National Championship Game taken away from them. That would definately be the talk of the NCAA. Not the kind of talk that we need looming over our heads right now. Please Bucks, don't go 12 - 0, please. :nervous:

Reviewing your schedule, I can honestly see you at a strong sided 7 - 5, possible 8 - 4 record. A very plausible bowl game could be in your sights.

I think that's about the limit. The days when we could hope for 10 wins left with Skip Holtz. Hopefully Ruffin can fluff up his case to keep his job, because we all love him here. 8 wins would also probably require a 6-2 or 7-1 conference record, and I'd love for us to be a part of the last conference championship game under the normal format. I can dream, right? ;)

Alright, here goes.

App State - I'm afraid to think of the reaction of 50,000 strong in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium if the Mountaineers are ahead on the scoreboard after 60 minutes.

at South Carolina - If Jeremy Grove gets 20 tackles, Justin Dixon gets six sacks, and our offense has no turnovers, I'll venture to say we have a shot.

at Southern Miss - Going to Hattiesburg is a pain in the butt. Last time, we came back from 21 down to win 45-44, and hopefully we can pull it off since everyone at USM left.

at North Carolina - If we went 1-11 and won this game, I would be fine. UNC's defense is always ungodly good, so we will have to hope for a moderately low scoring game.

UTEP - Not exactly an easy game to come home to. UTEP is always loaded with fast receivers, and always has a really good kicker (much closer to soccer country than here). Probably a shootout, as always with the Miners.

at UCF - I really want us to smear their faces in the dirt. They got into the Big East because they have 10,000 more students than us and a big TV market that doesn't care. It's time to show those turds who really knows football once and for all.

Memphis - If we don't win this game, you can tell we're having a non-bowl caliber season.

at UAB - They always suck, but they never give us an easy time. Defense steps up in Birmingham, I expect a lot of turnovers from our offense because they'll be looking ahead to Navy.

Navy - I know how to coach against the triple option. Someone tackle the quarterback, fullback, and tailback every down, they go nowhere. Last time, we didn't know that little tidbit and they put up 70 points. The stadium went from 50,000 at kickoff to 200 at the beginning of the 4th. I'll never forget that, I hope the team hasn't.

Houston - This'll be our last hoorah John! Last time the Cougars came to Greenville, we won our last conference championship on a last second pick of Case Keenum. The time before that, they knocked us out of the Top 25 and we haven't returned since. We'll see what happens.

at Tulane - They have a new coach, but if we lose in front of 100 people in the Superdome, faces will be glum around town all week.

Marshall - This is it. Rematch. Last year, we went up to Huntington, lost in overtime and lost all hope of a bowl game. I hope we have 6 wins before this game, but if we don't, that's some pretty prime motivation. That, and the overtime win we scored against them last time they came to Greenville.

I'll say 7-5, in a perfect world. Maybe we can go to LA in the Fight Hunger Bowl and beat Troy if we're lucky.

Much appreciated 👍.

A question for everyone in this thread: What game are you most looking forward to?

Just picked up tix for the Oklahoma-WVU game at Milan Puskar Stadium November 17. Can't wait for the Jones-Geno showdown.

Going to Chapel Hill, although it won't be fun afterwards if we lose. Those Carolina fans are not good winners. They came here last year and started brawls in the stands.

I wish we could go to Colombia for the SC game, but that didn't get arranged. Hopefully a conference championship game here.

I don't know what to think about this year's team. No Keenum. That's as best as I know. Here is what our schedule looks like for Houston Cougars' football 2012:

Sep. 1: Texas State
Sep. 8: Louisiana Tech
Sep. 15: at UCLA
Sep. 29: vs. Rice (Reliant Stadium)
Oct. 6: North Texas
Oct. 13: UAB
Oct. 18: at SMU
Nov. 3: at East Carolina
Nov. 10: Tulsa
Nov. 17: at Marshall
Nov. 24: Tulane

I am not going to be confident in my picks because (1) I don't know how the season will actually go, and (2) I am poor at sports picks. The only thing I can predict is that we will likely make a Bowl game this season.

* Texas State will be target practice for the Cougars.

* Louisiana Tech is always a solid team. I wouldn't be surprised if LT pulls a fast one on the Cougars and stun them.

* UCLA is not a team to make fun of. Maybe they aren't USCal, but they certainly aren't sorry. I don't know what the 2012 Houston Cougars are all about, but UCLA isn't going to be too kind to us in the Rose Bowl.

* I'm a UH fan for just about every sport. That even includes baseball, which I usually favor Rice in over Houston. I got Houston in this one.

* I don't see the Cougars losing to the Mean Green of UNT. So I call a win for this one unless UH just doesn't show up.

* I always considered the UAB Blazers a tricky team to contend against. That said, I don't think the Cougars will slip up against UAB.

* Worse than Rice beating UH would be SMU beating UH. This is a classic Houston/Dallas battle held in Dallas. This one could be a close fight, but I think Houston can pull this one out.

* This could be a good one. Either ECU skins my cats, or the Cougars kick some Pirate booty. I hate to say this, but I think Houston could lose this one.

* Tulsa is always a tough out. The Golden Hurricane isn't going to do anyone any favors. The game is at Houston, so I like UH's chances.

* Marshall will just be a blip on the radar and nothing more. This one will probably be a double-digit win.

* The boys from New Orleans will probably hang with the Cougars for a while. But after a while, I think UH will pull away and win this one over Tulane.

I really don't know what to expect from this year's team. Too many questions and not concrete proof that Houston will be as explosive as when Kevin Kolb or Case Keenum were under center. Part of me says Houston will leave C-USA with a bang. Then again, who REALLY knows? So I'll reserve my real judgment until when the season starts proper.

Not to bash on Michigan by any circumstances ....... but yeah, there was a hell of a party on that particular Saturday night. My Michigan buds suddenly became silent. For a long time. I can remember getting that phone call from a close friend. He was about 3 sheets to the wind at the time, he was screaming, literally screaming ...... App won, App won, App won .... the Wolverines fell to App. I was like yeah, whatever. Your half ass lit up and you misread the score pal. there is no way The U of M fell to App. State ...... no way. Sure enough. I tell 'ya, I was just as shocked as the Wolverine faithful, I just could not believe it. It just goes to show, anything can happen on any given Saturday.

Epic.

One more week...=D

Oh, and by the way, screw my comment about Kansas State...Arthur Brown is a DPOY canidate, while Collin Klien is the #3 QB in the Big 12 after Landry Jones and Geno...Bleacher Report even thinks he'll preform an RG3 and win the Heisman.

Collin Klein did good in every game not hyped up by ESPN. When K-State/Baylor was the Gameday game, he might as well have not shown up.

Hey, I have no complaints with how they handle Gameday. They did it at a little known rivalry game for two Historically Black Schools (thats what they call themselves) awhile back and the traditions were pretty cool. ECU was part of Gameday awhile back because we played in the first game in Blacksburg after the massacre. Needless to say, we didn't hang around much after the first quarter.

I'm sure Division 2 NCAA football is going on right now. But let me ask you college football fans... are there any teams out there you think can be surprise teams to play in the big Bowl games? If so, who are your underrated teams? Could there be a mid-major that could make some postseason noise for the BCS Bowls?

I can't think of any except the usual suspects of Boise and Houston making it a few games undefeated.

Huh, just noticed. 4,000 posts, thankfully I stopped postwhoring or else I'd have a lot more .

Major Bowl Predictions -

Discover™ Orange Bowl - ACC Champion (Florida State) vs. At-Large (LSU)

It will seem like a home game for FSU, as most of the fans in Sun Life Stadium (?) will be cheering on the Seminoles. However, LSU, even without star corner Tyrann Mathieu, still has the hard nose defense they are known for. Plus, FSU has a poor OL, which makes them almost no match for LSU's D.

Prediction - LSU 14 - Florida State 6
MVP: Eric Reid, FS, LSU

Allstate™ Sugar Bowl - SEC Champion (Alabama) vs. At-Large (Wisconsin)

In this game, it's all about "will Montee Ball dominate, or be dominated?". If you ask me, Alabama lost a lot of it's defensive firepower to the draft, and replacing them with young guys. In Montee Ball's last game, he goes off for three TD's on the Alabama D.

Prediction - Wisconsin 35 - Alabama 24
MVP: Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin

Tostitos™ Fiesta Bowl - At-Large (West Virginia) vs. At-Large (South Carolina)

Yes, THREE SEC teams make it to the BCS this year.

Marcus Lattimore, possibly the best RB in the nation not named Montee Ball, will completely destroy WVU's 3-4 defensive scheme, as they will not be used to great RB's in the pass happy Big 12. The questions are: A. Can Geno Smith keep up with Lattimore's pace? B. Will Jadeavon Clowney, the #1 player in HS two years ago, shine in his first BCS bowl?

Prediction - South Carolina 35 - West Virginia 28
MVP: Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina

Rose Bowl Presented by Vizio™ - At-Large (Oregon) vs. Big 10 Champion (Michigan)

THIS will be the best of the five bowls. The Duck Super Tandem of Kenjon Barner and De'Anthony Thomas meets the #1 Dual Threat QB in the nation with Denard Robinson. This should be fun.

On paper, the defenses are even. No real superstar on ethier team. I expect it to be the most exciting Rose Bowl in awhile. In the end, with geographical advantages too, Oregon pulls out a 2OT, high scoring victory.

Prediction - Oregon 44 - Michigan 38
MVP - Kenjon Barner, RB, Oregon

BCS National Chanpionship Game - Pac 12 Champion (USC) vs. Big 12 Champion (Oklahoma)

USC returns from their postseason ban, and boy, they are better than ever. Superstar QB Matt Barkley is entering his senior year, with a dangerous wideout in Robert Woods.

Oklahoma counters with Sam Bradford protege' Landry Jones, along with a good RB in Dominique Whaley. However, Jones' #1 wideout is no longer Ryan Broyles, but inexperienced freshman Trey Metoyer. This difference in wideouts decides it. USC returns to LA as National Champions.

Prediction - USC 28 - Oklahoma 17
MVP: Matt Barkley, QB, USC

I think the SEC champ still gets dibs in the big game before the Big 12 at this point. If I had to make a prediction, I'd say USC/Oregon v. Alabama/LSU/South Carolina. I just don't see any Big 12 teams getting through pretty enough to beat out the almost inevitable undefeated Alabama, LSU, USC, or Oregon.

And Clowney didn't get enough of the spotlight last season, if you saw him play he was an absolute monster, as the guy in my avatar found out the hard way a few times.

Y'know, to be honest, I'm just not seeing it. The SEC has only one legitimate Heisman canidate in Marcus Lattimore, while LSU and Alabama are much different teams from last year.

Eight sacks as a freshman is pretty damn good. My Mountaineers would love to have that monster on our D Line.

Wouldn't we all. And I guess we both have a point, the SEC at least has a contender this year. If only Texas didn't suck.
