I don't even want to think about what would happen if our discipline problems were transposed on a major school.

Shaw needs to man up, this is ridiculous. Either get on the field or take off your pads.

If anyone did that crap in front of Holgerson, he would likely rip your head off lol.

When Holtz was here, the fans at least got the satisfaction of seeing some in-game, on field discipline. However, McNeill's philosophy is to have a "family" environment, which is great for a recruiting standpoint (we get recruits with family troubles, etc, that Holtz couldn't get) but when it gets to the point where a kid has four fumbles and doesn't get the yank, its not good anymore. It also means no chewing out.

Epic no call loses the game for Vanderbilt, barring something crazy. I hate to see the little guy lose a game like that, I've been there a lot of Saturdays, but South Carolina needed to win.

Reminds me of Bill Stewart when he coached here...he could've made Jarrett Brown an Elite QB, but instead, he was our worst QB in the past ten years. Plus, he had a lovey-dovey attitude, where if you lost, it would just be a "we'll get 'em next time" speech instead of discipline.

Holgerson however, has revolutionized this program. Geno Smith turned from an average QB to a great one with Holgerson's Air Raid offense. And boy, he doesn't teach discipline, he REQUIRES discipline.

I recall one moment from the Orange Bowl, when we returned that fumble for a TD, the camera focused on Holgerson, who wasn't smiling, but yelling at our linemen for terrible blocking on the play.

I love Dana Holgerson =D

That's how a coach has to be.

Edited last post, sucks Vandy didn't get that call, but SC needed to win so I'm not complaining.

I just hope Holgerson doesn't go overboard. He is a Mike Leach protege', y'know.

Just tear down all the storage sheds in sight, it'll work itself out.

Family environment in football is one thing, which is cool. On field discipline is another, also cool and much needed. It sounds as if McNeill needs to tighten up the ropes a bit on the latter mentioned. How else do you get better ? By discipline ..... crack the whip a few times and you'll see the changes ... for the better.

he doesn't teach discipline, he REQUIRES discipline.

Urban Meyers philosophy as well. He was pretty brutal on our receiving corps. this fall. He came down on them pretty hard.

Nicksfix

Key words in that sentence is a few times....if you start treating your players like dogs (See: Mike Leach), enough is enough.

It's a balance. Holtz was a bit on the authoritarian side (which is why his traitor rear end is gonna rot in South Florida), and McNeill is a bit on the soft side.

Having said that, even though we won all those big games with Holtz, I think McNeill can learn to bear down a little. I don't think Skip could unlearn being harsh. Which could end up giving us the best of both worlds in the long run, if he doesn't stink it up this year and lose his job.

On the brighter side, if BYU loses, I can tease my Mormon friends tomorrow :D.

I want BYU to win BECAUSE I have Mormon friends, and my mates Dad went to U of W.

I have 2, and one of them doesn't really care about football (soccer player), and the other one is just oblivious to sports in general, so its just a little running joke ;).

Yeah I saw that.

Not sure how it didn't come up earlier, but McNeill is straight out of Leach-era Texas Tech as well. He was a defensive guy, but brought the QB coach along with him, who's now our OC, Lincoln Riley.

Did you see that crazy pick? BYU for the win.

That was really lucky because WASU was freight training down the field. That's the downside of the Air Raid, turnovers. This should be a good game to watch if you don't need sleep .

Im sitting here doing my homework haha. Sleep? AP student? What is that?

Time management bro. I have 6 APs, I just chop up the work into little tiny bits each so I can do other stuff and not be stuck reading an ungodly amount or doing a whole problem set the night before. We may be different than you, but we don't get very much daily work, its more like this big thing X is due on X, go.

It's manageable I suppose, just a bit stressful jumping from 2 last year to 6 this year.

Tonight we have Boise/MSU, State/Tennessee, and Stanford. I have a feeling Boise will pull it off, MSU may have their heads held a little too high after some good seasons and Boise tends to win these games.

12 more hours, and 50,000 of the greatest fans in the world will converge one more time, let's go!!

Couple of games on the card for tonight:

* It's Boise State at Michigan State (or Boise St. vs. Michigan State if played at some neutral site) on ESPN.

* On ESPNU, it's the match I had interest in- North Carolina State vs. Tennessee at the Georgia Dome.

Keep enjoy your college football weekend!

Wow, pretty much identical timing there John .

Where is Kellen Moore in the NFL? I can't remember for the life of me.

The Detroit Lions...he'll have a good QB to learn after.

And when Stafford gets hurt he'll be ready to go.

LET'S GO!!! Currently 7 AM, been up for around an hour, and will be first in line for parking lot open at 8. Go Pirates!!

I also hope Michigan-Alabama ends up a blowout Alabama's way, I think Michigan is a tad overrated.

Any reason why the Notre Dame-Navy match is 2PM our time? Surely the Americans would prefer night-time here so they can actually watch it at a decent hour.

Edit: Nice generalizations from the burger-eating rednecks.:sly:

Also nice boost to the economy talk from Enda Kenny.

Because its a pain in the rear to have to wait until noon to watch a game (for those of us that aren't tailgating). It gives the viewers a reason to watch NBC (Notre Dame network) rather than Gameday as well.

We're 1-0, that's about all I can say. Rio Johnson was not bad, but its definitely a work in progress. The 35-13 scoreline is generous to our cause because of kick and punt return TDs for us and inopportune turnovers for App State. I'm interested to see how we fare next weekend. The defense needs to be better to compete with Lattimore and crew.

And sucks for Penn State.

That's not a bad start for USC. All Barkley has to do is throw a 75-yard touchdown everytime the ball leaves his hand and he's a shoo in for the Heisman.

My Mountaineers preformed a 69 - 34 (I believe) schellacking of Marshall today. Geno unleashes for 323 yards and 4 TD's...next week against James Madison should be no different.

Yeah. I'm loving this game so much, I hate Michigan so much. Aww, Denard's feelings are hurt, poor guy... NOT!

Side note, my Blue Devils are up 37-14 at halftime! Good day.

44-14 Blue Devils, and I'm just loving this game :D.

Ugh, really wanted a shut out. Maybe they can score again before half.

The Notre Dame vs. Navy game was actually on starting at about 9:00 AM Eastern Time. I guess it was cool seeing the Fighting Irish actually get to play in Ireland. Too bad Navy couldn't do much anything to try to suppress Notre Dame's offense.

That's the only game I could really comment on because I was out and about today (sadly). I also heard of Ohio taking down Penn State at Penn State. Sucks for the Nittany Lions...
