Without a doubt I'll have to agree with SS here: "It can't, duh."

This was my point, something needs to be done. My original question was rhetorical.

Then please direct rhetorical questions at the individual responsible both for its closure and its future reopening. Telling the rest of us doesn't really help matters.

May I asked why was it closed? I don't visit the GT5 forum a lot so I didn't notice it's closure.

You may. I did make a post explaining it, but it's probably a few pages down by now.

After several infractionable responses directed at users trying to help the person running the thread, the user chose to start an argument with me based on misreading a post I'd made. I determined that, for his own future on GTP, he should take a time-out from the thread and directed him to PM me when he'd decided he wanted to continue with it in a more adult fashion.

As yet [Chamberlain] no such undertaking has been received [/Chamberlain].

Unfortunately for GTP members it is unfair on that user to take his hard work off him and give it to another user after he's spent several years on it without his say-so (something I've maintained while other users have attacked him personally for what they perceive as prolonged absences), so an alternate thread is not, presently, a possibility.

So basically everyone else has to wait until you two settle your petty quibble?

You could put it that way, if you were so inclined. If you think that, somehow, it's the moderator's fault when someone misbehaves.

Remember, by the book I could have banned the user. If I was intent on being cross with him, I would have done. Perhaps, from your point of view I should have done, then we could get the car list back? Would that be very fair on him?

I'm not interested in what you want. I'm interested in fairness. That user has done some very good work that other people have tried to usurp because they think he was absent too often and I have been fair to him by preventing that. Recently he has struggled with remaining civil - to the point he could have lost his membership - and I have been fair to him by, instead, giving him some cooling off time that he could choose to end at any point. I'm not about to ban members at your behest, or for a rolleyes smiley.

Where was I either blaming you or asking to ban him? Don't put words in my mouth.

How about you two settle your problems like adults or let someone else take over the car list thread so things can get back on track again. I thought the good of the forum (which is a working car list thread in this case) came first before one user?

I didn't at any point say that you did. However, you are very keen to implicate me in this user's problems. Here's another example:

How about you two settle your problems like adults

I'll remind you again that the user made several infractionable comments to other users before he decided to continue it with me. If I had a problem with him, he would no longer be a member. There is no problem between me and him, however much you wish it to be the case. I'm am 100% happy for him to PM me to say he wants to carry on the car list thread or not, as I said in the relevant post. Until he does that, I have no way of knowing if he's in a position or frame of mind to continue with it or not.

or let someone else take over the car list thread so things can get back on track again.

It is neither my nor GTPlanet's car list to redistribute. Nor yours.

I thought the good of the forum (which is a working car list thread in this case) came first before one user?

The good of the forum doesn't include stealing from one user at the behest of another or others.

Anes's point is also a good one. The car list is, as far as I can tell, up to date by its starter's rules and will be very shortly outdated.

If you want the car list thread back, there is only one person to speak to. Possibly two - if Jordan decides that it is in the community's best interest that the car list continues under another member's stewardship, then that is his prerogative. I am happy for you to contact either of these people. Incidentally, there are alternatives and I have asked one member with a very advanced, independant car list if they would like to explore those alternatives.

Edit: However, I will, in the meantime, resticky it as it provides a useful reference in a single post, regardless of any other factors.
