Course Maker: how big is it and when can we expect it?

My biggest concern with the new Course Generator is, will it have a bump map slider that we can use to set the road surface anywhere between really smooth to very bumpy?

I hated the GT5 version, as all the tracks were smooth as glass, & very dull to drive on as a result.

Maybe not a slider for the entire track (some areas may want to be more or less), but be able to select sections.

I'm no game programming expert but what you are explaining also must explain why when racing the redbull ring only a certain amount of players can race and the rest get disconnected?

I'm not really sure what the nature of that issue is, if I'm honest. If it's definitely confined to that one circuit, then it merits attention. But, at first glance, it could be caused by any of a number of things.

Perhaps on some roads or for the more off-road stuff. Like real life, I'd far prefer driving on a 'newly paved road' to one that's falling apart due to summer/winter expansion.contraction cracking. In fact, I can't think of even one person I know who prefers driving on old worn out roads.

The point isn't to drive on old worn out roads...though that is fun when you're doing rally. The point is that race tracks are not perfectly flat smooth. Even the freshly paved ones have bumps, dips, etc.

I understand, but both dips and bumps were present in GT5 created tracks. I've created many of them. As for cracks, regardless of whether it's real, as I noted, I prefer freshly paved roads, as does everyone I know in real life. (aside from offroad or other "special" considerations driving (beaches, "country" (unpaved) roads, etc.)

What's next, complaints that the cars don't suffer head gasket blowouts, clutch failure, tire blowout, or a hard bump doesn't deposit 6 quarts of oil on the road surface when the oil drain plug is sheared off?

I have to agree with VBR, sometimes its not the technicality of the track that makes it great but the wear on the road surface that makes racing on the course fun and exciting.

As a NASCAR short track oval driver in GT5 I always felt that the tokyo kart ovals were missing the bumps and banking, something that would give each small oval (besides there shape) there character.

Maybe you don't play with a wheel, or if you do it's a cheapie. Rough surfaces add to the challenge of driving, they increase the feedback from the wheel, they force you to plan ahead in terms of the car balance when they occur at certain points in the track. In other words, they make circuits come alive, and add an extra level of challenge/difficulty just like on real tracks. It adds greatly to the immersion level IMO.

I agree on both counts. I just am also aware that beginners are not going to be thrilled with a rough track. Sooo..... (shrug)

Thats why as VBR said there should be a slider to change stuff like that. If a beginner level driver doesn't want a rough track he/she can just simply leave the slider at a lower value.

Well, I'll admit I like driving up my 1/4 mile long, gravel driveway, (I would never pave it), and I often find myself taking the "scenic route" (finding and driving country gravel roads...the few that seem to exist in my parts anymore anyway) during late summer night drives, but as far as paved roads go., I'll take a fresh road over a worn one any day. Nearly tore off a passenger-side control arm on a stretch of RT 2 near Sandusky Ohio when I was a teen and have had a couple of flats due to worn roads before.

I get what rough surfaces do, and irl I sometimes look for them. In real life though, I find that maintenance costs are intrinsically tied to the surfaces on which I drive my vehicle. Now, if I was some silver-spoon jerk, I might not care, since someone else will end up picking up the tab for my "fun" anyway, so I guess I can see where you're coming from. We all have opinions. I accept that yours fits your circumstance. But if it's added, I doubt that more than a handful will end up using it except to try it out (imo).

"Cheapie" is not a shot, it's commonly used where I come from, no offense intended. Otherwise I could never drink at Cheap Charlies down the street nor eat at Cheapo Filipo's either.

If someone was playing with an older wheel that had no or poor feedback or DS3 for that matter, then an irregular surface on the track won't have the same meaning to you. With a good FFB wheel it really adds to the immersion IMO.

Fair enough. I rescind my comment regarding "banal/childish". My wheel isn't a top end model (just a DFGT) but it's fine and would not impede my use for a "worn road" scenario like that one stretch of Sarthe etc.

In any case, good luck with that. I don't think it will receive much traction but if it does then so be it. As I noted, I was able to create bumps and warbles in GT5's coursemaker, although I'll admit I could not specifically control when where they occurred.

For a very simple reason. They are a simple way to give maximum options. I sincerely hope that PD puts them in.

it was already in the 700's when Kaz finally started answering them but he skipped over it probably for multiple reasons.

Give anything away? We already paid for this, it was promised as part of the game and we have a right as customers to know what is happening.

I don't see why would someone be self-entitled to know what's going on with the editor.

If something, I'm really tired and weary of announcements, if they release the track editor it better just be an announcement one or two weeks before it's actual release, rather than a lengthy and painful teasing of the darn feature, GT6 is an odd game in which it's fanbase is just entitled to know everything about it's development stage. If they don't release the feature, then screw them and let them take that :censored:storm plus whatever that comes after that, but as it is I don't see any reason to tease and then have it released a few months down the line, much like spec 2.0 was to GT5 (taking in consideration that spec 2.0 was released more than 10 months after the game was released).

This doesn't happen with Forza, or P-Cars or any racing sim that I know, neither I know a game in which people are entitled stuff, they have to develop and deliver it as it was advertised, however I don't get why are people entitled to know what's up with it, that is down to the developers to decide what is published, and when they publish it.

I don't need to know the specific status of everything, just the parts we already paid for and don't have. Course Maker was announced initially as a core feature of GT6, it wasn't an 'extra' announced post release. That was over a year ago and it's still not here so yes, I want to know what on earth is happening and I don't see how that is unusual from a customers POV.

I'm sure if other games promoted core features for a game then told customers two weeks before release they wouldn't be in the game but rather added some time post release they would also want updates on where it is. In fact look at GTA Online heists, fans keep asking where they are and R* has given them a few updates. That is good customer relations.

Those were the features and content announced for GT6. They were all in the game until a few weeks before when it was announced many would instead come in a later update. We're perfectly entitled to know where they are.

To be fair, I believe that what he meant by "give anything away" was a reference to ~secrecy, not fulfillment, ie, "I know something but it's too soon to say anything, so I'll play coy, so I don't give anything away"

And to be clear about my own stance... I agree though that this is a feature we already paid for, not some freebie or "added value" addition.

(in fact, as I may have said before, it's the sole reason I chose to upgrade. GT5 wasn't perfect, but I was relatively content with it, in part because of its course maker, whether the course maker was perfect or not...)

I know that's what he meant and I still stand by my point, there should be nothing to hide away at this stage, 12 months after the feature was first announced. I've said before, what state was the course maker in at the time of announcement if over 12 months later it's still not ready? If it was so far off being complete or so young in development they didn't even know if they could pull it off on PS3 they shouldn't have used it as a leading part of promotion for the game.

We don't need to know everything about the feature, we just want to know when we're likely to get it. Is it a few weeks away? A few months? Another year? They have to know what the status of it is, time to tell the customers who already paid money for the game on the promise this would be included at some point. 6 months on from release, people want an update and it's certainly not "too soon".

Well, not if they don't provide advertised, paid content within a few months of game release, many people are likely to get upset, especially when the company is silent on their fulfillment. Much as some people refer to the "box" as some form of excuse that "PD said they'd add it later in an update", when the new course creator was first announced, well prior to release of a box image, there was no mention of "we'll add this later on sometime some vague day in the future through an update." In fact, I placed my preorder prior to actually seeing any box image.

A quick update on progress from PD would have gone a long way to assuaging the concerns of those players who are concerned about the lack of progress and clear indications that they're moving ahead full steam on another version for another console.
