SR B is like a black hole of suck. It just keeps pulling you in, and unless you have the ability to simply drive away on raw speed it seems like some muppet will try a psycho overtake or bump you for the hell of it. Tried 2 race C, both got decent results from everyone spinning, but kept getting tapped on turns and on straight away. Some people scare you into staying behind, 1 guy would get by on the straight and swerve like hell. Like a lag bomb but worse. Made it just back to SR A and then tried autopolis. Dumb. Made 2 spots on start, lost them with the traditional turn 1 dive bomb, than dive bombs at the hairpins and a few tap passes. No penalties anywhere for anyone but cost me all the SR I gained. Oh well. Some good racing at times, will keep working on that.

So yeah, double post. Went back to Sarthe. Still can't figure out SR. Technically SR A now, but super clean race where I had exactly 1 punt through the dunlop chicane (I was the puntee) with no penalty for either of us, 1 track limit violation on the mystery track limits at the second 90 right (indy or arnage) and 1 tap as a jerk in an alpine tried to pass on final chicane? But no penalty, just minor side tap. Get 6 SR for otherwise clean race. They have certainly made SR harder to get. Lap times are no good and haven't had much practice but the carnage is real and I keep moving up quickly. Worst race C was only moving up 5 spots. Would be worth some DR if I could qualify so I don't start on the chicane every race.

I have 4 Gr.1 cars in my garage, too lazy to grind because I bought a lot of N classes for testing purposes. Can those experienced in Race C give me an insight on these cars? (Fuel mileage, easiness of driving, race pace).

-Audi R18 TDi '11
-Mazda LM55 VGT
-SRT Tomahawk GTS-R VGT
-Peugeot 908 HDI FAP

Appreciate in advance :D

I'm personally doing well in Race B at the moment. 3 first places, 1 second and 1 third with good battles all around. Haven't tried Race A but will use the 458 Gr.4 because it's the only one I have anyway

If I'm not wrong Race A is FF (provided) car only.

As long as you get t1 and t2 right in Autopolis the rest just flows. Miss t1 and you fall way behind, miss T2 and the following 4 turns becomes trouble. Nail it and the rest flows better than the esses on Suzuka.
Absolutely agree. Autopolis is all about entering the current turn with a view to setting up the next three turns, not with a view to getting this turn fast.

Back to the Nord in SR.B in the morning. First race I get passed on the way to the start by a car simply driving through me while I'm following the car in front of me. I guess the game didn't trust him and just let him ghost through me... Better than getting hit I guess but then I had to slow extra when he came out of me on the other end so the next car tried the same but wasn't ghosting lol. Thus to last and the chase began. Lot of fun, high speed passes along the outside, no contact, but I got punted off once after I passed a car. (He dropped to SR.E with 10 sec in penalties, had punted off some other people as well). 5th place finish, fun race. +1 SR for me to 46, DR dropping as I'm the only A/B driver around and my 36K DR doesn't stand a chance while finishing 5th.

Starting 11th next, fast C/C driver on pole. Finished 2nd despite getting bumped off again. I gained the last 4 positions from the penalty zone  That gained me about 150 DR and +2 SR this time. Side by side through the middle straight, no problem! The SR.E and SR.D drivers thrown into the match making were the dirty ones, it takes effort to get that low, and special talent to stay in SR.E.

Sorry folks, I have to vent so I'm going to use the forum instead of paying a psychologist to sit on his couch...

Welcome to Autopolis! AAAAARGH! After qualifying the best I've ever managed (1.8% off lead - I'm usually 3 to 4% off lead) I figured Autopolis may work for me this week. Yes, it can be a dog fight but if I'm in the top 3 on the grid I may get away from the carnage before it starts and as a DR B 15K ish driver that time will put me well up there. I'm also pretty conservative and if in a decent position will gladly sit behind someone lapping well and finish in a top 5 rather than risk crashing so figure if I can even get into a calm lead group I can lap well. No such luck! Turn one is a mess. I've had to go back and watch the replays form the point of view of cars behind me and they just don't brake. Perhaps the slip streaming is catching them out so the brake point is much further back than the expect relative to qualifying laps but I've been punted miles off the track on the first lap, on the second lap, even after leading for 3 laps I went into T1 for the 4th time leading, just needed to keep my head, and the car in 3rd shunted the car in 2nd which in turn slammed me into the sand. Last race out I pulled so hard at the wheel trying to get out of the way of a car I could see coming up behind that I pulled my steering wheel off it's mount. Trying to fix it back I got kicked form the race and dropped from SR 92 to SR 64.

Now I actually feel so aggrieved by that drop (being that I'm SR S virtually my entire time racing) that I may just start ramming other cars for pure therapy.

I know the feeling, I've been solid SR.S for the past 85 days according to KP. Now in SR.B and not getting out of it. However you might find, like me, that races aren't actually worse in SR.B, more fun than all the sneaky tap tap taps in SR.S. Don't ram, show how it's done cleanly in SR.B!

Can't always get it right, next race a front bumper bounces of my rear bumper, 2 sec penalty. Then at the end a car goes sideways, can't avoid, another 2 sec for me. Down to 31 SR and DR reset from 35K to 15K  No more A/B racing, B/C now.

Oh I see I dropped to SR.B on day 605, so only been consecutive SR.S for that last 38 days, so dirty.

Hope you are right. Autopolis in FWD Gr4 probably needs to be driven like 1980's British Touring Cars (real life) with doors rubbing and mirrors knocked off. I was tempted to run Daily C at the back and do some "safe laps". There's not enough sectors in 4 laps of Autopilis to get SR back.

Ironically last week in Daily B (Gr3 RBR)I was generally in the last 4 of the grid and made up 4 to 6 spots every race with other cars in front falling off the track. I reckon if I had not qualified this week I'd be better off. Let the others crash and the track clear and then just wave at them as you pass.

Bah, just had a race where everyone got stuck on the grid. Eventually I had to restart the game, broken. Cost me 5 SR, no DR though since no one finished

Racing through the back is going pretty well tonight on the Nord, making up 6 or 7 positions per race. I'm finally starting lower down the grid, so have more people to overtake :) Most still crash themselves or each other out of the way, yet sneaking by a car that goes fast in slow out usually works and there's always the straight to get by.
If anything, starting at the back in Race B is a great demonstration of how many people over drive the car, and that being “slower” is in fact faster.
The mantra that keeps me from messing up other drivers' races is "Race the track, not the car!" (meaning - concentrate on getting the lines right, not on catching the guy in front). Nowhere is it more true than this week's race B.

Yeah, race C is the only play to really regain SR. Even if you manage to escape all the taps on A and B it will take forever with a max of 5 SR for a clean race bonus. And it only takes 1 BS penalty to undo 3 contact free races. However since race craft isn't much better in SR.S, why bother getting back there  There are more punts down the SR ladder, but at least the penalty system gets those right. In SR.S it's usually a sneaky bump to get passed without any penalties and SR Down for you.

Ah 3rd place finish, +6 SR and 413 DR. I don't mind getting punted off, means more to overtake again. As long as they get a penalty. The system works at the bottom.

Totally not the thread for this but as the current subject is SR building, it will be interesting to see if they keep the system identical for the new, longer FIA races. With races such as 19 laps of Interlagos and 17 laps of Fuji, it would seem that the current system would allow for quite a significant amount of contact and still enough sectors to finish with positive SR. I hope this doesn't lead to dirtier races.
Just thinking out loud. :)

Good point. PD has been slightly lowering the amount of SR per sector already. It used to be around 0.4 SR per sector, yet last few weeks seem to have been under that. On the other hand, those longer races also allow for more BS penalties and drop down even further! 19 laps of bumper tap SR Downs will hurt...

@Sven Jurgens very interesting take on it. I'll give it a go this eve and see how GTs Wrekfest works.

I've come to the realization that my beef is not with dirty or over aggressive players, it's the penalty system that will eventually 'set me off'. When it keeps getting it wrong race after race and it seems most people get away with bump after bump after bump, at some point I snap :/ In lower SR there's far less gaming the system.

The Mazda is my favorite. I haven't tried those others. The Mazda will only go 5 laps if you save fuel by short-shifting, or change the fuel map to 3. If you leave it on 3 the whole time, it will go 5.1 laps. I drive automatic transmission. The AWD pulls you through the corners nicely, without the risk of spinning out. Good luck. 👍

Yeh, see, that kinda works and kinda doesn't. Whilst you may not be focused on catching the guy in front, you still have to be aware of them. If you are committed to stubbornly maintaining the same lines lap after lap, you have to resign yourself so slowing the 🤬 down. The alternative is to be flexible and be prepared to change your line to pass. Too often I've been knocked (read SMASHED) off the track by people who seem unable to change their line and ignore the fact that there is another car currently occupying that time-space :banghead:. By following the mantra you do tend to come across situations where cars who havn't have come off track up ahead and hence you catch them. Once you catch them, wod are ya gunna do with em?

I patiently wait for them to make a minor mistake and slide through the gap if it's big enough....hopefully before the driver behind me catches me up and punts me to the shadow realm ;). The mantra is to get me caught up without making a stupid error and messing up races (both mine and other drivers). Once I'm caught up the focus has to change because if I stick to the mantra it's me doinng the tap..tap..tap on the rear bumper and we all hate that driver.

Having some fun atm trying to replicate the standing start bug. If you put GTS in the background a few seconds before the race starts, simply by going to the ps menu, and don't come back until the cars are on the track (some 40 seconds later), auto drive won't move your car and everyone behind you cozies up for a standing start. It's actually very beneficial when not qualifying, I simply drive away from the others not having to slow down for traffic at the start and get bumped from behind. Then catch up with the rest after Flugplatz. Might be fun to try when you start on pole, convert the whole race to a standing start

Yep 100% confirmed, worked again. I'll stop doing it now. Finished 4th with another CRB but hard catching up to first when you give them all a head start :)

Your DR grade can't advance past your SR grade.

I thought that after I got destroyed at Autopolis last night my SR would have brought my DR way down too, is it only true on the way back up (if you follow me)?

Yes, ish.

Your DR grade can't advance past your SR grade, but it can be above it. That applies if your SR rating falls, but only to a certain point: if your SR grade falls two levels and (I think) five points below your DR grade, the game will reset your DR to the same level as your SR.

So... My love affair with Autopolis just keeps on going. I said I was bored of it. I lied. I know the rest of you seem to hate it. That's fine. All the more for me, right!?

After Megane-ing around in QTT and being stuck 5 hundredths of a second behind @RacingGrandpa I took the Scirocco for a spin for a 54.6xx (Sorry!) and went racing.

The first 4 races saw me finishing in P10, P9, P7 and P6. Each time I started higher up the grid but an 'incident' always dumped me to the back. But I had some awesome awesome races with whoever ended up back there with me. And they were some of the most fun low end finishes I've had.

And then we went and did this...
70324038_10156899734548740_1913385454804140032_o.jpg

Jumped P1 on the start, and built a gap only to be reeled in as I went into 'keep it on the track' mode... Spent the final lap in full defence but held on to finished with P2 on my bumper as we crossed the line. Man that was fun!!!

Had nice race on Nordschleife tonight, P4 > P3, DR and SR up....then was foolish enough to do a race B, DR down but still a net bonus ... SR down for a net loss over both races of 5 SR points. That grid start is killer for the first six turns....

how in the world of wizardry did you find that out? Accidental?

With the FIA sessins being lengthened. Race C should get a revamp. I just simulated the next the next Nations race: Gr.2 27 laps at BMB Infield A. Had too much fun. I ran with the top 5 Ai for most of the race. "We" caught the older GT500 cars and started lapping each one by one. Come to lap 23 and the top AI cars pit. I caught an '08 GT-R and was going to come into the pits on lap 26(even though I had 2.5 laps fuel, I wanted to make it a fair race). The normal line the AI take, are ride the inside yellow apron. I gave it room and as I'm accelerating, the buster t-bones me into the inside wall! I pit and come out in 4th from having the lead.

Pretty fun race and I guess the outcome would be somewhat realistic, with some the players out there. :sly:

Can't believe there's gonna be a rainy Tokyo Expressway. That's gonna be nuts.

@Pigems, since I have the day off, tomorrow, I'm gonna waste some time trying to see if I can use cones to jump over the chicanes on Mulsanne straight. Probably won't work, but I feel I like I need to find out. 👍
